I hate my 17" laptop. Too big, might as well invest in a good desktop

It probably wouldn't be bad if it wasn't HP.

I have to laugh... I am putting one of these in a box to send back to HP with a dead motherboard. Overheated and this is the 2nd time I am sending it in for repairs.

on the plus side when it did work I loved it.

It's a laptop, so, no. It has a Turion processor which is the low end of HP's mobile processors. However! It does have a dedicated graphics card (worlds better than integrated) and 4 gigs of RAM. So, as far as games, you shouldn'd have much of a problem with most of them!

Hate to say, not that great a deal. Same price at eCost.com for the same unit, though 17 shipping, versus 5 for woot.

12 bucks? that represents an awesome deal these days?

$738 with CA recycling/sales tax/shipping. This is exactly what I have been looking for and saved $80. Too bad it's 17" though :/

Yeah, my HP Pavilion DV laptop fried its motherboard too. Less than three years old and HP refuses to acknowledge the overheating design flaw which cooks these things quite often. The repair shop showed me five dead HP's with the same problem. HP leaps into the vacuum!

Not the best...

Class 2 video card.
===================
Midrange Graphics Cards - These cards should be able to display all current games with fluent framerates but not all with high detail settings. Especially demanding games like Crysis, Age of Conan, or Mass Effect are only playable with lower settings. Less demanding (and older) games, like Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, or Battlefield 2142 can be played with higher detail levels.

ATI HD 3650 CARD
=================
The Hd 3650 is a middle class graphics card (in 2008) and compareable to an 8600M GT GPU from Nvidia. It is fabricated in 55nm process and due to Avivo video engine the graphic card can support the processor with several video operations (HD video too).
600 MHz, 120 - unified, DX10.1 | 700 MHz, 128 Bit

Better off getting a CLASS 1 video card if you want to game! NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX/GT/GTS

CLASS 1
========
High End Graphics Cards - 1GB Dedicated!!!
These cards are compareable to enthusiasm desktop graphics cards, like the 9800M GT. The cards have a similar core, as their desktop counterparts, but are clocked lower and often have less shader processors. Modern games like Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, or Gothic 3 should run fluently with high details (Crysis should run in medium to high details).

Did it have to do with the fan going out? Mine also did that but it was easy to replace and everything worked fine after that.

I have a dv9700t that did this; is this still a problem with the dv7's? Afaik, it's because of certain Nvidia GPUs (6150 GO, 8400m, 8600m, among quite a few others).
