Wal-Mart has a 15" LCD flat TV for $190...add a cheap $30 dvd player to that and you've spent $220 for a 15" flat LCD tv with dvd.

I dont see spending $300 for a 12" tv/dvd lcd. Like someone said earlier, you could get a laptop for almost that price...even if it is only a 1ghz or 1.5ghz laptop, it would still be a much better overall product.

The fact is that DVD players now are c-h-e-a-p. It is almost to the point where it is EXPECTED to be a feature, not one you would be charged extra for. That being said, I dont see $300 for a 12" LCD screen and the built-in dvd player doesnt help justify the cost. I only paid $265 for my Dell 19" Ultrasharp LCD dvi.

However, I WOULD pay $300 for a 17" or 19" lcd flat tv with or without a built in DVD. That is exactly what I'm looking for to put in my bedroom....

I think you're missing the point that this unit is portable and has wireless headphones, car mounting kit, TV tuner, and a set of inputs. It wouldn't be a good price for a TV to set on the counter at home, but that's not what it's for. I'm still tempted on it, but I think I'll pass. A small cabinet mounted LCD TV for the kitchen is more of what I need right now.

Pretty cool and with a couple of different options for mounting in the car. This would be great on long road trips. If it had a battery pack I'd be sold but can't justify buying this after big spending on BF.

Bought one about 2 years ago and it has worked great! Goes in and out of the van quickly and easily for road trips and then back into the house for regular use. The kids have been kind of rough with it and it continues to work great. The only negative I've found is the viewing angles for in home use aren't as big as I'd like but it has caused no problems. I think it's a bargain!

got one. broke my woot cherry on this one.

been shopping for something just like this. have seen 7 inch and 8 inch screen players in the same price range. some have two 7 inch screens. not sure why you'd need two... but anyway, the clincher for me is the built in tv tuner. stuck in traffic? bored with the dvds you brought? check out the local traffic on tv. fricking cool.

I agree, Audiovox is junk... Everytime I get tempted by their low price gear I get screwed. My Audiovox garage stereo made it only 2 months, and I dont even use it that much!

General consensus from most resellers that have customer reviews is that $299 is a good price, but the ratio of bad:good reviews is about 2-3:1. Doesn't matter if it is less than 50% of market price if it stops working after a few hours.

Caveat emptor.

Awesome woot! Bought the original 10.2" over three years ago for $900. Put in the mini-van, and has never left. Still operates flawlessly. Would love to have another backup!

Just to note some things:
- the LCD is 800x600 resolution. If you watch widescreen DVDs primarily find a widescreen unit.
- the thing weighs 8 pounds! this is not your compact portable, but then again it's 12".
- the angles of visiblility are only rated at 90H/40V. That's a pretty bad screen if you want it for home use. Add to that 180:1 contrast and 180nits brightness -- on a sunny day, you might have problems seeing it out in the car.
- the inclusion of two wireless headsets and the car adapter is nice.

BTW, the Audiovox FPE1505DV mentioned earlier at Target is actually $369 direct from amazon, free saver shipping. That's only $65 more...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00081K4CU/
While not a 'luggable' car unit, it shows what a little more can get you for home:
- 1024x768 15" LCD
- 120H/100V visibility (the vertical makes a lot of difference if you're say standing in the kitchen cooking...). 500:1 contrast, 450 nits brightness - HUGE difference in the picture 'quanitity' ;).
- backlight rated at 50K hours (versus the portable 10K hours -- for whatever reason)
- in addition to composite and RF inputs, it adds s-video and VGA -- and packs in a VGA cable (use it for computer and TV).
- and, it's wall mountable (VESA compatible)

... all depends on what you want from a unit. :) This woot ain't bad, but there are better-suited smaller-portable (or bigger-home) units available. As always with woot, do your research!

I already have one, and I paid $450 on sale at FRY's for it.

Use in the car to play the xbox when we go on trips, works great for that, My son puts on the headphones and I can still listen to the radio. When we get where we are going we bring it inside as a second tv/dvd player vary handy,

couldn't do that with the laptop. so many people are comparing this to. Have yet to see a laptop you can hook an xbox box to in a car.

Bag of Cuuuuuute! doesn't really exist, it is a myth to get people to hang around for woot off's anyone who says they got one lies

Thats because of the rounding off to the nearest integer. For example, lets say that there were 3 items and one item sold every hour. So the sales would be 33%+33%+33% = 99%.

Still confused?

Looks like a new trend is emerging. Usually the greatest amount for any item sells within the first hour. Not the case today though. Are people becoming bored with woot?

Funny you should mention that... I have found myself not checking woot until the am. Sometime I am even up doing other stuff - but don't bother. For me though, I got a little burned out on all the InFocus style a few weeks back -- also, after getting so many woots, I am STILL YET TO GET A BOCrap. UGGGG!!!!

Interesting... you should count your blessings.. the thing that will make you happy is a 12.1" portable TV...
I rather send my $300 donation to people who'd use it for food, shelter, kids clothings, etc...

Good luck with the rebuilding and god bless..

It's an issue of rounding up to integers. For example if 5 hours had percentages of:

20.6 (shows 21)
20.6 (shows 21)
20.6 (shows 21)
20.6 (shows 21)
17.6 (shows 18)
--------------------
100.0 (shows 102)

Got mine last night. The wireless head phones work well and the DVD player plays DVD-Rs just fine.

The LCD screen is not very good though: bad viewing angle range and a terrible contrast ratio.

Also, my screen has a bad pixel that is always stuck on -- bright white. I haven't looked to see what AudioVox's policy is on dead/stuck pixels.

Very happy with this deal. Not as sharp a picture as my Sony LCD, but hell, that was more then double the price. This was a good deal all things considered, very cool that it came with 2 pairs of wireless headphones which work well. In all fairness to AudiVox, I have had one of their portable DVD players for over 2 years. My wife and I have used it a ton and have had no problems what so ever. I expect the same from this LCD TV.

I received mine from Woot and just love it. You can watch in or out of the case. The wireless headset work great with this system to watch TV or a DVD.

Thanks WOOT!!!!
