Did everyone who got a 6 cell battery get the d250 model?

Brad Freeman

I just got mine today, a D250 with the big battery.

Pleasantly surprised by the BlueTooth (one less dongle to keep up with).

Love the keyboard. Hate the touchpad. Why does Apple have a monopoly on good touchpads?

The lid is fingerprint central, and the screen is as described, aggressively glossy.

After deleting the demos (and Works!) and pruning a few services (do we really want to run the Carbonite setup wizard in the background on every single boot?) it seems nice and zippy.

Overall, I'm well pleased. But I don't understand you warranty buyers. Personally, I can't wait for my 90 days to be up!

Enjoy!

Got mine tonight but the hinge is so damaged that I can't fully open the computer. Will be calling Acer soon.

I did get the 6 cell battery but I don't know how to tell if I got the 150 or 250.

Edited: Figured it out, I got the D250

The netbook is always registering the right mouse button as pressed. This makes the button impossible to use as well as makes it act a little weird. The track pad and left mouse button seem to be working no problem.

Anyone else have this problem? or know of a solution?

I wish I had a software fix for you. Unfortunately, that really sounds like a physical problem with the actual button. You might need to call Acer about that.

White sticker on the bottom has the model number.

D250s have a bluetooth button on the upper left of the keyboard.

Ha. Thanks, Brad. I couldn't get the BT to work and it was driving me nuts. Totally did not expect to see a button for that.

WOOT!!

Got a D250-1389 with 4400mah battery - about the best I could hope for!

Only blemish is the silver finish on the top of the left hinge has been rubbed off - if I cared about it, there are silver rub-n-buff paint products that will fix that but it is such a small area, it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

Otherwise, looks like new with no fingerprints, scratches or other blemishes.

Thanks, Woot!

Runs great so far. I have to agree about the touchpad being iffy. I installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and it's badass.

Read a lot of complaints about the keyboard, I'm ok with it so far. I guess my short fingers is just right for it.

I got mine today. It is the D250 with the 6 cell battery and not a scratch on it. You couldn't tell the difference between it and a brand new computer.

Acer did package a lot of unwanted applications as usual. I pruned some of the unwanted applications and services. I also uninstalled Office and Works and put on Open Office. With all that done, the computer runs great seems to meet or exceed all the qualities I was looking for in a netbook.

Ditto, just finishing up the install now via thumbdrive.

Didn't even boot up the installed Windows, made a disk image backup (just in case) and wiped it. Would be trying Win7 as well except I can't find where I downloaded the RC earlier this year. MS pulled the download in August and I haven't picked up a retail version yet.

D250 with the six cell, seems to be in great shape. Thanks forum for pointing out that this has built in BT and about the hidden button for it!

I ordered 2 of them and they both came tonight. Both are D250. One has the plastic wrap on it and the other didn't. one came with the 3cell and the other came with 6cell. How do i get the 6 cell?

I received the 3 cell instead of the 6. The 6 cell is the only reason I purchased it, so I'm pretty disappointed.

I received mine two days ago. It's a D250 with the 6-cell battery ans was in absolutely perfect cosmetic and working order. I've already ordered a 2G RAM module from newegg.com. After rebate it was only $30.

Sticker on the bottom up by the battery, white, has the serial number and some bar codes. First line on the sticker, "Aspire one D250-1389 MFG Date 0906"

Finally found a problem with mine... have a stuck pixel. Given what some of you guys are dealing with though I'll take it.

The way this arrived I doubt Woot had any hand in quality control, looks like they just reshipped what Acer gave to them. I suspect Woot doesn't do any QC on refrbs... they're just a reseller. When there are problems tho I hope they can stick it back to where they got it from.

Ubuntu has been working well but I like the normal desktop instead of what the "netbook remix" offers. Can't change that so far as I've seen in 9.10, but you can still go old school in 9.04. I'm not sure if there are any other specific enhancements in the remix that aren't in the desktop version, if not power users may want to skip the remix and go right to desktop. Now to upgrade the RAM to 2GB and find out if I can drop in a SSD in the mini-PCIe spot to act as a swap disk. BTW, I have successfully booted this off both a thumb drive in USB and an SD card right in the built in slot.

Does the replacement RAM need to be 533MHz or can it be different as long as it is SODIMM?

I want One! One What? What you got! it's gone.

My money is that these came from a contract refurbisher; basically ACER accumulated a load of DOAs and defects, sent them to the contract refurbisher, then from there to Woot. I've got a friend who works for a contract cellphone refurbisher in TN that does basically the same thing.

Mine's working well so far, I just installed the ATI TV dongle earlier today and watched some TV. Deleted all the extraneous scaffolding, seems to run faster.

I've got a 16G SSD from my EeePC 9xx netbook, I wonder if it'll work in this?

Mine is a D250 with 6 cell battery. Build date on the sticker is 09/07.

Stuck in 2GB of RAM and installed Win 7 Ultimate. Works great! I did a clean install using an external CD drive. Also updated the BIOS to 1.22 from 1.07.

Only issue I have is the battery life. What is the expected life for the 6 cell? I've seen claims of up to 8 hours. I'm seeing around 4.5 to 5.

For the D250 (what I received) the recommended upgrade at crucial.com is a 2GB, PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SODIMM. On other sites I've seen PC2-4200 (533MHz) listed as compatible. Off the top of my head I don't know what the speed is of the chip included or what the minimum required speed is but unless memory rules have changed you can always go with a faster chip and run at a slower speed.

I was trying to figure this out myself, I though a 2 or 4GB SSD drive would make a good Linux swap drive. If you try it out report back how it worked for you, also if it was in a D150 or D250. While both SSDs and cellular wifi cards have the mini-PCIe form factor apparently they aren't always interchangable. I'm not certian if Acer has the slot wired to work with SSDs.

When I try to connect with my phone it asks for a password. I can't find in the userguide what the password is.

When connecting something like a phone it would probably be a password that you would set in the phone when creating the pairing, or vice versa. One side creates it an the other needs to enter it but I think you should control both sides. Don't know if it's the Acer userguide you're looking at or your phone's, but you probably want to look at your phone's guide. For devices that don't have any real input mechanism (headsets, mice, etc.) there usually is either no password or a default of 0000 or similar.

I initially "thought" I was having problems with the Bluetooth, until someone on this forum pointed out that there is a button (above the keyboard) to turn the Bluetooth on. Very much a humbling, d'oh moment.

No fear, I still haven't figured out what the button on the lower-right front lip is for. It's near the wifi indicator and the media slot. Ubuntu and WinXP both work without it.

BTW, the D250 will boot from its media slot. Nice!

Also, 3 hatches on bottom, none wifi card. The Atheros card is buried deeper.

Is it 90 days yet?

The button on the lower-right front lip is for turning the wifi off (on).

CELLULAR wifi I believe, not the internal 802.11 whatever card. Without one of those cell cards (the mini-pcie slot, under the smallest hatch) I don't think that switch will do anything. At least is hasn't had anything to do with the 802.11 card in my D250...

BTW, this looks like a good deal on a memory upgrade once you get the rebate. It's an OCZ 4GB kit, two 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800MHz SODIMMs, $86 shipped before rebate and $56 after. Yeah, you can only fit one in these Aspire Ones for a max of 2GB, but since I've got this D250 and my wife has an earlier D150 this is a good deal for me to max out the two netbooks. So if you guys have more than one of these or know someone to share the 2nd card with I'd suggest grabbing this. A similar single 2GB card I was looking at on Newegg is $50 by itself.

EDIT: Just noticed at Acer released another BIOS update yesterday for the D250's, latest is v1.25. D150's last update was to v1.11, released on 11/17/09. You can find the updates (along with other downloads) here. D150=AOD150 (Aspire One D150) and D250=AOD250. I've updated my D250 to the 1.25 BIOS without issue and didn't notice anything different in the BIOS menu. I think I've now run updates from 1.07 -> 1.22 -> 1.25.

I noticed (using ubuntu netbook remix OS) that viewing websites take forever to load. It's as if the internal wifi adapter goes into some sort of sleep mode everytime a site is done loading.

Updated the firmware from 1.006 to 1.025 as someone did here and noticed a speed up. Hopefully, the fix was for that and other things that I have yet to discover.

Yes, had problems with battery. Service had me update bios. That didn't work. Then they shipped me a new battery. Which I received few days later.

Well, the more I think about it, the more I feel there is a MAJOR flaw in Woot's business model - at least with this item. To sell such a wide variety of product (D150 to D250, pristine condition to worn out, 3 cell battery or 6) all to a bunch of customers who can compare notes with each other is problematic. I'm stuck with a worn out D150 - and I can read here where people got a like-new D250 for the same price. The price for this item was not low enough for me to treat it like a lottery.

Boo Woot! or "Boot Woot" - which is what I'm going to do!

To be fair they were selling the refurbished D150 with a 6 cell battery, so as long as you got at least that you should be happy. They upgraded a few, so those people should feel lucky, now if they advertised the better model and than gave you a worse than their business model would be horrible and worthy of a boo. But since they chose to upgrade a few folks that is just an added bonus.

Myself i received a D150 with a 6 cell battery, unfortunetly my refurbed unit was not very well refurbed as the right mouse key was permently registering as being pressed. So i had to send it back (at my cost) to the refurb company and i'm still waiting around for them to send it back, so at least you have me beat, I spent my money almost a month a go and still don't have a computer.

Of course the computer was mostly for my wife so i'm not missing it too much.

Mine developed the dreaded track pad button problem. The left button was acting like it was sticking.

I popped the keyboard out and cleaned the contacts on the small white cable from the trackpad. That seemed to have fixed my problem.

mine works fine so long as the power cord is connected. If I try to operate solely on the battery power, things work okay for a couple minutes and then the netbook shuts down.

Did you contact Acer or Woot for tech support / a new battery?
