I bought one.

Even though I wanted RED.

You're welcome.

MissJ420 wrote:That's good to know. I've never wanted to buy anything refurbished because I figured it already broke once, why waste my time?

Because after it broke, the company took it back and fixed it. They then most likely went over it very carefully to be sure it works so they don't have to see it again.

I have purchased many refurb items, and have not had any higher failure rate among them, probably lower.

I have two Acer Ones, and 8.9" that I bought new a year ago, and a 10.1" refurb that I bought from Woot! back in July. Both have 6-cell batteries and give 5-6 hours run time. Neither has a broken screen, but they both live in a padded case (from EBay) when they are not in use.

Both work great and are very capable. Last summer I did several photoshoots with my DSLR, taking over 1600 pictures, which I then did some fairly extensive editing in Photoshop CS3 on the 8.9" and put together a slideshow within a day. It ran without a hitch. Granted, my desktop would have been faster, but this was no slouch.

I recommend these highly.

Will everyone that keeps bringing up the Black Friday prices for an ACER netbook realize that those are probably for a 3-cell battery. Check which battery the computer has before posting its price because you may not even be refering to the same computer.

brichins wrote:You can get these for the same price on the Dell website right now - only brand new instead of refurbished.

I just looked at the Dell site and didn't see anything close to this price for a Mini. A link would be nice. I have bought a lot of refurbished electronics including computers, iTouch and many MP3 players and have been very satisfied. I already have 2 laptops, an Acer One netbook and a desktop or I would pick one of these up. I love my Acer.

Someone also asked about installing Office Student and Teacher on this. The license is good for 3 computers so chances are you can use it. I have it on my netbook and it performs fine.

Memorywise? Sure, with an upgrade. Processor-and-GPU-wise? I wouldn't recommend it. If you want to run WoW on a netbook, you need one with a real 3D graphics processor. I.e., an Ion netbook. Those certainly won't be $235, though.

No problem. One other piece of advice (and this is for anyone who plans on getting one of these):

OfficeMax at one point had a Lite-On DVD-RW drive for $38 bucks WITH light-scribe that works GREAT on these babys. Well worth the small investment.

Looks like the price went up, http://tinyurl.com/ykd275s , but it's still worth it, IMO. Plug and play - no drivers needed (esp on win7).

Yea, I bought one...sure it's cheaper on Black Friday, but the nearest Walmart is 25 miles away, so I don't mind paying a little extra to have it delivered to my house and avoid the shopping nightmare known as "Black Friday." ...heh, reminds me of the movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

I've had one for a month and love it. Bought it for internet access during vacation, but now use it lots at home also. Keyboard a touch small, a bit slow, but those were expected for size and price. Love to watch netflix movies on it. Keeping it in car during Christmas shopping for quick on-line product reviews.

As for the refurb being 'broken once' comment...
While this is true

Not true. Many--maybe most--refurbs are simply returns with nothing wrong. The buyer didn't like it, their SO complained about the cost, whatever. To be sure, some are broken, just like some new items are broken. Don't know about this item in a wootoff, but when it was sold during the regular woot those receiving busted ones were saying the warranty provider (not Square Trade, someone else) was providing excellent support.

Make an iso of it and run it from something that does virtual drives ie poweriso. or use an external cdrom drive.

I bought one from another company new for much more earlier this year and have been very pleased with it. These are great if you travel or are in college and don't want to carry a heavy laptop around. I just recently got a dvd burner to go with it. Also have used it for photoshop and it does well.

It is also owned by Acer, but has better keyboard, 2 gb ram, 250gb hard drive, 6 cell battery, faster processer, better graphics. Life of battery is low due to faster processor/power. Think they are/were going for about $279. I got one to replace my Acer netbook with broken screen.

Also, it runs Windows CE. FAIL!

Nothing like waking up from a great night of sleep (8.5 hours) to realize that I missed ABSOLUTELY NOTHING GOOD on the woot-off.
Thanks for being predictable woot

As a side note, this is NOT the worst woot-off ever, but it's damm close. The last one was 10 times better than this one.

Also, woot's prices are not all that great these days, just a few bucks off is not worth the risk of buying something on here and having it fa!l and having to spend the money to return it...if you even can. Woot used to have some great, unique items ad really good prices...not it's the same old carp available online everywhere for just an OK price. I think woot has gone corporate.

I purchased an HP touchsmart on woot about a month ago and it arrived with a dead HD. I contacted woot who told me to contact HP. I contacted HP and they prety much told me to phuck off, and to contact woot again. Finally woot said I could ship it back to them...at my expense of course. So I just said phuck it and got a new HD myself. I have learned a hard lesson from woot, don't ever buy anything over $100 or anything that weighs over 5 lbs. Everything else...I will get at costco from now on. Life is too short to deal with the hassle.
