On top of it these will last you far longer than 5 years. So really it's an investment

And a good one at that. I just paid over a hundred dollars for a slightly lower quality chef knife, and I got that for a steal.

Besides, Woot is a market testing site. The sell what is given to them to market test. That's why many products sell for under $1.00 that would cost $5 just to make. They sell what is give. Plan as that.

Oh! and stop calling people stupid names like a 2nd grade. It makes it sound like your the unintelligent one.

Actually a lot of the items have been in the market for quite some time. That's why we can all google the item, find prices and reviews. If they were testing the market we couldn't find that info.

They can unload the items at a huge cut becasue they get a bulk deal to unload someone else's stuff they have warehoused.

Guess what?? Most of us in the stupid woot community are not professional level cooks. Just because a retailer puts a high price on something does not make the product worth the price.

I'm not a poor college student. I'm actually much closer to retirement. I'm not a professional chef, but I am good in the kitchen. There is absolutely NO way I would pay even half of this for a set of steak knives. I was shocked when I saw the price.

Incidentally, Shun, or rather the parent company Kai, gives a lifetime warranty on these which includes free sharpening. The only cost to you is the shipping to the factory in Oregon. They will sharpen and return the knives to you for free.

If I did not already own a set of Shuns I would buy these.

OK, Smarty/Fancy Pants...I'm confused...we're stupid because we don't want to spend $600 on KNIVES...and you're smart because you would (or have, rather) yet you spell knives with an "F"???

Kids.woot had a hooked on phonics set earlier...if you get lucky, maybe they'll put it up again and you can make THAT purchase instead...you know, since you already own these "knifes". sheesh

Here's the argument that everyone who says a $600 knife set is something no one would buy:

I can buy this Radeon 4670 for $65 and it plays games, why would I buy this GeForce GTX 295 for $500-600?

Or maybe even better: why buy this Pioneer/Samsung when I can buy this Westinghouse?

Different people have different priorities that influence their purchases. This should not come as a surprise because I'm fairly certain at least one of you has had to justify paying more for a more technically advanced doohickey to someone (I know I had to argue hard for my choice of TV).

A deal is a deal, it doesn't really matter where you find it. People who can afford expensive things still like paying less for them (as you can see by them moving pretty smoothly).
