my college age daughter wants a single serve and I can't afford a kuerig! Hope this one is okay. Any body know if this could get to Texas by Xmas?

italiancousin wrote:Just to correct this bit.... if you buy coffee pods that come all bunched together in bags, this is certainly the case: it's stale.

However, if you buy pods that are individually wrapped, they have usually been packaged IMMEDIATELY after roastin. Pod manufacturing machines have a whole-bean hopper on top and the beans are ground and deposited into the pod papers -- and then sealed -- in an environment free of oxygen.

What that means is that you get EXTREMELY fresh coffee each time you open one of those hermetically sealed wrappers ... and they are shelf stable for about a year.

Does roasting your own greens give you a fresher cup? Certainly. But good quality pods packed without oxygen can give you nearly that quality -- but in just a few seconds and with little effort.

I'll put my Ethiopia Yirgacheffe or Kenya AA Fancy Mark brewed in my Cona D, Hario Nouveau or Technivorm Thermo Moccamaster against your pod-brewed "Black Mountain Gold Cinnamon Crumb Cake" or "Fratello Snicker Doodle."

Pods are the instant coffee of this generation. Anytime you want to set up a little taste testing, you let me know.

Well, it's coming from Texas, so maybe.

If you take the trouble of making your own pods, doesn't that negate the convenience of these pod-based coffee makers? Why not just buy one of those 1-cup machines that use regular coffee grind?

I'm pretty sure homemade pods won't taste as good as the real ones because you're not using specially treated grounds. Regular coffee needs longer exposure to water than the quick shot this provides.

These pods are just overpriced vessels of chemicals and artificial flavors.

I have used a pod coffeemaker (the One:One) for years and love it. The pods are relatively inexpensive (as compared to Keurig) and you can use the round tea bags, like Republic of Tea sells.

Exactly. They take crappy, low grade coffee and add enough chemicals to make it taste like apple strudel, or cheese cake, bubble gum or tuna fish.

And as a bonus you create more waste with all the individual packaging. Yeah pods!

I can't believe you are the first person to say this....I mean you buy a pod or K cup coffee maker not to save money, but to save time. Yet you want to waste your time making your own pods? tarded if you ask me.

I have pod machines, a nespresso machine, and a kcup machine. Despite the convenience, sometimes you just can't get your favorite bean (I even do some home roasting once in a while) in a convenient form. That's the only reason I make my own pods.

That said, the right coffee maker makes all the difference..There's a huge difference between my "free" Senseo and my $200 Bunn..

Well... that makes more sense.

i ordered one of these but i also got a reuseable pod and i will just cut filters as needed.

im divorced and the kids are gone so there is no need for a full coffee maker. i waste more coffee with a normal pot as it is. i drink maybe one cup a day some times more but i dont know, this was i make as i go. over all much better.

I'm definitely not arguing with you that Pods are the convenience choice.

Obviously your comparison of a premium specialty roast to a brazilian dunked in flavoring is an unfair one, and it would be just as unfair for me to compare the cost and time associated with roasting your own greens with the convenience of a pod....but I understand you're trying to make a point and I can certainly appreciate that.

I simply wanted to clear up the question of stale coffee; you were right that bagged pods are stale, but it is indeed incorrect to assume that individually wrapped pods would be stale as well.

Individually wrapped pods actually represent the closest to truly fresh coffee that most people can experience unless they invest the time and energy to roast their own. Not perfect, but a lot better than nearly all other options.

Just trying to make sure that people have correct information.

Thanks!

Am I the only one who doesn't give a scaffolding what the coffee tastes like as long as (1)it keeps me from falling asleep behind the wheel on the way to work, and (2)it ensures that the terd train to toilet town departs south station on time?

I bought 2 of these things so I can squeeze out a quick cup as I run out the door, suck it down on the way to work, and increase my productivity by hitting the ground running as soon as I get in.

I'm all about the convenience and effects of the drink, not the taste. If I wanted to enjoy the taste of my coffee, I'd pour 2 shots of Jameson in it.

I agree, and that's why I bought one. In fact, if I already had this, there's a decent chance I would be accomplishing something right now instead of commenting on the Woot forum.

Good question. This was purchased as a Xmas present, it didn't have the little "won't make it by Xmas" icon so I didn't think it was going to be a big deal. However, the whole week has come and gone without a shipping notification and now we're heading into the weekend.

Woot, when are you shipping this??????????????

Mine doesn't even show up in my account, nor did I get a confirmation email. But I KNOW that I saw a confirmation page after ordering.

What gives Woot? This was purchased as a Christmas present, and then I went and bought $20 worth of pods on Amazon to go along with it! Now I don't even know if I'm going to get the product?!

I also bought as a gift for xmas. My consolation is that the Woot! item I bougt last week (kids' camcorder) arrived the same day that Woot! updated the page to say it had shipped. Not the best communication, but at least it arrived quickly. It was 4 business days from order to arrival. Hope these show up soon

Really Woot? You shipped them smartpost after taking 3 days to get them to FedEx? Really?

Pretty disappointed that Woot didn't say anything about this not making it before Xmas. Then again, I guess that's what I get for thinking anything from Woot would be shipped in a timely fashion. Seems like that's just par for the course.

I got a shipping notice from Fedex, says the product is currently in Dallas (Dec 18) but that it will arrive on Dec 23rd. I am near Los Angeles, California.

However, I'm leery of SmartPost's initial shipping estimates. Usually after it gets sent to the local region it updates with a revised delivery date.

On the other hand, I've noticed that Fedex and UPS have usually attempted to accelerate Christmas deliveries as a goodwill gesture, so it's quite possible this will make it here before the 24th.

Not happy with you WOOT! I got my ship notice today and says it will be here on the 26th! If it wasn't going to be here in time for Christmas, you should have said so! Still keeping my fingers crossed for a miracle that it will get here before xmas or my mom is going to have a bunch of coffee pods and nothing to make them in!

Update: Received email, SmartPost for me as well, shipping date was the 16th and delivery date is estimated to be the 22nd. I hope that's really the case. I did the same thing as a lot of people by ordering the coffee pods which arrived and are already wrapped. I don't want those to be opened and have to explain, "Well, funny story about Woot! ... "

I just received mine today and I ordered 3 because two of them are presents. The first one I opened looked as though it had been used. I remember specifically checking to see if these were re-furbished items and I thought they were new. The first one I opened looked as thought it had a coffee ring on the metal plate thing that catches the overflow. Did anyone else have a problem? Can anyone recall if these were re-furbished? Any advice on what to do? Thanks

I just got the three i ordered today and one of them did have some sediment in the water reservroir. I believe it did say NEW.

update:
Make sure you read all of the instructions before you even press the power button; there's an important step where you have to press the Brew button then simultaneously press the power button top roperly prep the machine before use.

Another update-
SO, I used it again today it did run water without having to place a pod inside the basket!

Received the 1 I ordered today. Had some white plasticky powder residue inside the water container and on the pod holder. No signs of the unit being used or refurbished though. Cleaned up easily and makes a better cup of coffee than I was expecting.

By the way, that was the fastest SmartPost shipping I've ever witnessed Woot.

I havn't received mine yet, it's due tmw, so I'm not commenting on this through firsthand experience of this item, but those of you who are seeing 'residue', might possibly be seeing leftover 'manufacturing rinsing' residue.
Some manufactuers rinse items that are subject to oils or other chemicals used in the manufacturing process, especially if the item is a food prep related appliance.
Typically you as a consumer would not notice it at all, but some manufactuers might not be as diligent as others.
With all food prep related appliances, it's always wise to properly wash before use.
In the case of a coffee maker, a non consumed brew or two before normal use might be suggested.

Pretty sad that there wasn't a "you're not getting this by Christmas" icon and yet, lo and behold, tracking shows it scheduled to arrive the 26th. Really?

I think, this time of year, retailers would be well aware of the customer's intentions when ordering online and if there was a plan in place to ship these on the slow boat, that could have been made apparent in the ad, the way the "you're not getting this by Christmas" icons miraculously appeared days later.

Seriously, I now have to go buy yet another present I thought I had covered and, furthermore, now I'm stuck with an extra coffee maker that I don't need.

Bad. Very, very bad.

Dear Woot.com, please add a policy that people with less than 5 woots or who haven't had an account for more than 6 months can't leave whiny and complaining posts. I can't believe how much whining there is.

Dude, if you want something there for Christmas, go to Best Buy, pay 10x what this costs, and bring it home with you.

Seriously, this was $10, what do you want for $10? Please, Woot, make the whining stop. Someone must have called the Whaaaaa-ambulance.

Do you know what is the leading cause of death among on-line purchasers? Anxiety from wanting everything for nothing.

(I will award points for anyone that knows the movie reference I just used...)

I suggest that those of you 'just' checking the Fedex tracking site(and possibly whining prematurely, seeing how the 26th isn't even here yet), try to look up your tracking number at the USP.

Use this link, followed by the the same tracking number that is used at Fedex tracking:
http://trkcnfrm1.smi.usps.com/PTSInternetWeb/InterLabelInquiry.do?origTrackNum=

Example:
if my Fedex tracking number was 02185456301061111111 , then the link would be:
http://trkcnfrm1.smi.usps.com/PTSInternetWeb/InterLabelInquiry.do?origTrackNum=02185456301061111111

You can accomplish the same by going to:
http://trkcnfrm1.smi.usps.com/PTSInternetWeb/index.jsp
...and once again, enter the tracking number Woot emailed you regarding Fedex.

I also hope those of you that were so harsh complaining about the shipping, when you get it 'before' Christmas, that you'll come back with a just as vociferous APOLOGY to Woot staff.

FYI, in case you haven't been able to tell, my Fedex tracking page listed this as arriving the 26th too, but the USP tracking site shows it sitting at my local P.O. waiting for delivery tmw.
