Same old, same old. We tried and tried, read everyone else's issues and tried those too. Gevalia was rude (called them before we got that far in the postings). Will submit for rma from woot. What a piece of junk, but I thought we'd try for the price. I'll definitely think twice again.

Bought two. One works fine after all the tips from the helpful people here. That went to my mother. Mine won't even power on. I've been messing with it for hours, it just doesn't want to work. Same issues with Gevalia and LAI. No warranty. I'll email Woot, but the return shipping will cost me what the unit cost, so whatever I choose, I'll still be out the $15 at a bare minimum. Ugh.

Edit: Thank you Woot! Amazing, quick customer service!

Bought 2 coffee makers, neither worked so at least i'm batting a thousand. Gevalia won't help since I purchased from Woot, hopefully they will step up.

Well it made 4 cups of coffee then went bang and started leaking scalding hot water out of its insides all over the place (even turning it off didnt stop it).

Unfortunately at the price its not worth sending back and so was just money thrown away

I just got my Gevalia Pod Coffee Maker and I am very disappointed. The inside of it was wet and there was dirt caked in it as if it had been used. The plug was bent. The top plastic piece that goes on the water tank is broken and it does not work. When we tried to clean it the first time, as the directions say to do, the water does not come out. What a POS!

You should email woot customer service if you don't have a valid tracking number. But, if they didn't ship it, they have really done a favor for you because they have been such problems. If you REALLY want them, I have two failed units in the trash that I can dig out and send to you...

I just opened mine up today. After plugging the machine in I did as the instructions said by pushing BREW and POWER at the same time, but nothing happened. I then tried to just run water through by turning the machine on and pushing brew, but again nothing. So, I rapidly pushed BREW and POWER at the same time until I heard an odd noise like the water was trying to flow through. So I pushed the buttons rapidly again and again until I heard another noise. And I continued doing that until finally the machine vibrated incredibly loud and a drop of water actually came out. So, I let the water settle for an hour and a half and turned on the machine and pressed BREW and the machine again vibrated incredibly loud, but this time a whole bunch of steam came out and more water came into my cup. Finally, I ran water through probably half a dozen more times until I got the right amount and it was no longer a milky liquid, but instead clear water.

Now, I just have to wait for those pods to come in the mail... But all in all, thank you Woot! for this cheap coffee maker that actually works if you don't give up on it!

I actually bought two of these - one for me (I don't really drink coffee LOL) and one for my Dad for Christmas.

I've been using mine since it came with no problems. I followed the manual and it ran through the primer cycle without issue. I brewed coffee flawlessly. I made hot tea and hot cocoa (used the water only for the cocoa) and they were delish.

It never smoked, it never had the milky water.. it was just perfect!

I got to my dad's last night and gifted him with his. This morning (as we speak) he is trying to get his to prime and it's milky and loud and smoking and no water will pump. Weird. Sounds like the problem many of you here experienced..

However, I don't think this was a bad Woot. I love mine and haven't had a single problem with it. It has done exactly what they say.

Woot has always said that if your item doesn't work, talk to the manufacturer.. it's not "their junk" LOL..

So far, so good. Just got home today and it was waiting for me. Primed it like the instructions said - nothing, just a lot of noise. Tried it 3-4 times, still nothing. Left disgusted and sat down to call the number in the book. Called, closed. Figured I'd call Monday.

Then about a half hour later I thought why not try again. Worked! Went through 2 tanks of water to clear up the white fluid. Made a cup of coffee and it's fine.

Bottom line is it sounds like the instructions need a little work, but then if they are 5 years old I guess no one will care at this point. For the price, there's a little aggravation but it is working.

Are you crazy this thing stinks, it rattles like a squirmy 1 year old and it makes coffee like a 1 year old's diaper was used as a filter. This is the worst $10 i've ever spent in my life. I also had no idea that finding the "pods" for this is harder than finding WMD's in Iraq.

Thanks

I bought 3 of these for Christmas presents and kept one for myself. The two I gave away don't work, but mine works great. One doesn't work at all. This is my first problem with a Woot item. Let's see if they stand behind it.

**Update** Bravo to Woot. I emailed them Saturday, and received an email today from them that they were issuing a credit for the two bad coffee makers, and I didn't have to send the defective ones back. Every company should have this level of customer service. Sold Out Wooter!

After posting my complaint and seeing many others, I STILL have yet to see Woot try and make good on this! I guess they fail in the "customer retention" department. There's no doubt, that after the first initial hundred complaints or so, they should've tried to do something to remedy this situation with all of us. UNBELIEVABLE!!

Does anyone else's coffee pot leak at the pod basket? Mine leaks sometimes and gets water everywhere. What am I doing wrong??

turtlegir1

In support of everyone else - I add a report of a major product fail!

I bought 2 of these, one for myself and one for my mom for Christmas. Immediately after placing my order and seeing all of the suggestions from other posters on where to get the pods, I ordered a huge supply of pods to split between myself and to give to my mom with the coffeemaker for Christmas. The pods arrived first, but the makers arrived just in time for me to drive to her place to deliver the goods.

A few days after Christmas, we just got around to trying out hers, no go. Same as others reported, pushing the brew and power buttons produced no prep cycle with water running through. I tried to call the number in the booklet, and Gevalia was no help at all, because they don't make them any longer and the rude agent just told me to call woot (she even knew the name, I guess they are getting a lot of complaint calls!). Then I came here and saw all the comments from others, and told my mother to keep trying. Finally she tried it about 20 times and some milky white liquid came out. She ran it until it was running clear, then tried to add a pod and brew coffee. Of course that came out milky and gross too, white-tinted coffee and not even hot. I felt really bad and then had to admit to being a cheapskate who bought it online at a clearance site.

Came home, mine doesn't even work as well as hers (if you can call that working), no matter how many times I have pushed the brew and power button, no water (milky or otherwise). Now I have two of these makers, in two different states, and I doubt paying to ship them back would make getting a refund worth it. Help, woot!

I got one for my mother, and hers was doing that too. I think she's going to throw it out, because it only makes milky, not-hot-enough water, but we found that if you unlock the basket pod holder, it stops leaking. I think the seal creates a pressure vacuum or something. Hope yours is working better and this helps you out!

Just following up - I've been using my coffee maker daily since Dec 25th, brewing one pod per day and it's never leaked nor failed to produce a good cup of coffee.

I bought sampler packs from bettercoffee.com and thecoffeeartisan.com. My wife personally has enjoyed Fratello's, Timothy's and Gourmet Cafe pods. All have been good, although she's partial to the flavored coffees like hazelnut.

A few notes - the tolerances are very tight in this machine for coffee pods. Timothy's coffee pods are *very* tight and require a lot of force to turn the knob shut on the top after I've put the coffee pod in place - Fratello's and Gourmet Cafe fit perfectly with little effort.

For those of you having trouble getting your machine to work at all - check the water reservoir carefully. There is a tiny plastic dowel with a magnet in it that floats when water is present. Make sure this magnet is free floating, is in the down position when there is no water and up when there is sufficient water.

Also, when priming - I find it much better to plug in the machine, make sure the power button is off (no red light and not flashing), then press and hold the Brew button down while clicking the Power button once, then releasing the Brew button. If you just press both buttons simultaneously sometimes the circuitry can't read it correctly and you'll end up only brewing, which will turn on the heating element prematurely and possibly cook stuff in the dried-out water path.

What brand of coffee pods are you using?

The leak is caused by a bad seal where the pod meets the top of the machine - if you look at the underside while the pod basket is removed, you should see a white rubber gasket that mates with the top of the pod holder. First, make sure it's clean and still soft and rubbery.

Second, make sure your pod, when inserted, is bulbous side down, and that the coffee grounds are *lower* than the actual pod ring. Some brands, like Timothy's, are actually slightly overfilled for this coffee maker. If it's really filled high, you'll need to apply a lot of force to turn the knob locking the pod in place. Either that or you can try using the double-pod chamber.

While I like Timothy's, the pods are a *bit* too large and difficult to clamp shut. The Fratello's and Gourmet Cafe line from bettercoffee.com seem to fit much better.

Are you turning the dial on top of the unit until it clicks? It says in the manual, that if you do not do this, it will not stop pumping water!

I am having a problem getting clear water? I primed the unit several times and ran a couple of full tanks through it, and got clear water. Got up this morning and ran a cup through it and it's milky again. I put it in a clear glass, and held it up to the light. There is a ton of particulate in the glass, giving it the milky color. Pretty nasty. I don't know how to make sure this thing is actually clean, before using it.

Mine has the same issue.

I've been using mine with success. Until today, it was working perfectly; out of nowhere, though, it turned on and started its pump-priming cycle. Luckily, I was nearby and able to unplug it before it leaked all over the place.

I didn't really expect it to last very long; I just wanted to try it to see if coffee pods were a good way to go. I actually bought a Senseo and am waiting for it to arrive. I feel like I got my $15 worth, and it still works; I'm just leaving it unplugged when I'm not using it. I'll probably trash it when the Senseo arrives.

Woot is great!

I finally got around to trying out the Gevalia yesterday. I spent the morning dealing with it until I thought to check Woot posts. I then spent the afternoon trying out all the suggested fixes, but best I was able to get was less than 1/4 cup of white water before it went back to steaming. In the evening, with my house stinking of hot plastic and vinegar, I emailed service@woot.com and asked for a refund or credit. First thing this morning I had an email apologising and a refund in Paypal!

I really do feel bad for Woot; 9375 units sold equals how many unhappy customers and how many refunds? As for Gevalia, they'll never see any of my money!!

My coffee maker started leaking hot water all over my counter (burned my foot a bit too), and then starting smelling of burning.

Emailed Woot after dealing with the idiots at Gevalia, they refunded. Thanks woot!

Lesson learned, Gevalia is terrible.

EDIT: Yippe....WOOT CS just made it right. Happy Camper now (and awaiting the delivery of my latest WOOT).

Congrats to those who have gotten a good response from WOOT. My brewer doesn't work. LAI says the warranty is void if purchased from anyone but Gelavia.

The best offer I've gotten from WOOT is to ship it back at my expense.

Had I known it didn't come with a warranty (WOOT said it did), I would not have purchased it.

I have emailed CS one last time hoping to be made whole on this one.

I got the 12 oz Gevalia pods from Amazon, and the stupid thing won't even close with that size. That is, the pod just doesn't fit down into its holder (yes, it's on the 'two-pod' side). So the knob won't turn all the way, so it doesn't puncture the pod, so no coffee gets brewed.

I bought two of these pieces of scaffolding. The second one won't go into priming mode at all. After running three full containers of water through the other, it still smells so bad that I think I'm glad it won't make coffee.

Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

After 2 weeks of brewing, my pot died today... after brewing a cup and i turned it off, it turned itself on and made alot of noise (didn't pump any water through, and the power light didn't light up) and when I tried to turn it back on the power light was flashing very very faintly. I took it apart and it appears as if there was a small electrical fire... It shall be missed.

I bought 3, one for myself and one for my mom and future mother in law. Well of course, the only one that didn't work was the one I gave the inlaws. The problem is that the damn water won't come out for the priming cycle. It drips a little but somehow water is not getting through all the way. I'll try to do the upside down thing like some people have suggested.

Mine works well but wow does this thing make a mess. I go through 3 paper towels for every cup I make.

It does the job though and its perfect for me because I live by myself. My travel mug fits perfectly under the machine and I use it every day.

DO NOT use straight tap water. I did that for the first pot and you can TASTE and SEE the chlorine. It's pretty disgusting. I use Brita water all the time now.

does anyone know what refillible pods will work in this thing? i bought the eco pod off amazon but they dont fit, thy have a plastic piece on the bottom that keeps if from sitting in the holder, i cut it off of one and it still doesnt fit, its a little to big (diameter)

so anyway, does anyone have any ideas of a good reuseable pod for this machine?

for the record, i bought some pods at the local store to try it out and it fitsmy needs perfectly.

NOTE: make absolutly sure you run water through the machine a few times until the water flows clear, it has a white milky look to it at first.

obviously if you read the lable on the side it told you to do that.
