Yeah, it's probably crap, but my father in law loves texas hold em and will be flying a lot this winter. Googling for reviews says that's exactly what this thing is good for, so I got mine.

Oh, and slippyn64, "beverage of choice" means "Bag o' Crap", which woot often does to get rid of entirely random bags of items. Dirt cheap, no guarantees (yes, they literally call that day's woot "bag o' crap"), but you may get lucky.

Good affordable Christmas gift! Great to go along with something else. Besides, even if it isn't an amazing game, poker is pretty basic and what costs 10 dollars these days??

Looks like it is rounding the number, this isn't exactly rocket science...why are people always so shocked when this happens?

probably using integers as the variables, which drops off anything to the right of the decimal completely, without rounding

Got my Poker machines in today. Very nice actually. Better than I thought they would be. Bigger as well.

Thanks Woot.

I got a chance to open them and test one of the poker machines out. The game is really fun. Definately "fancier" than your average game. My only complaint is the dim screen. I tried to sets of batteries in two different games and both of them performed the same. Otherwise, a great woot.

I can barely see the images on the LED. Is this as good as it gets or do I have a defective product?

Yes, I did put new batteries in this thing and the LED images are virtually unreadable. Okay WOOT, call me.

wow, these things are JUNK! I went and bought 3 of them too! The display is, well, what display? It can't even be read it's so dim. I feel bad for the others like myself that jumped on these. Oh well, at least I only 'flushed' $35 down the toilet. Was going to give them as part of a Christmas gift, but can't even do that now. Guess I'll just throw them in the garbage.

WOOT, I wish you would test your Woot's and gives us the pros and cons

Pretty bad display.

I put new batteries in this thing and the plastic screen is so shiny and the LCD so dim it looks unuseable to me.

I just emailed Woot about returning it...wonder what the reply will be?

I'd love to get a refund on these. Had I just bought one, I wouldn't really care so much, but three of these usless pieces of plastic, well, a refund would be nice.

Y'all had me a little worried, as I had bought 2 of these...one for me, one for a gift...and I had already wrapped the gift. I don't want to give a crappy present.

So....

I just now got mine out of the box, and the display is just a tad on the dim side...but fine. (Please don't throw rotten tomatoes at me...I hate that some of y'all are having problems.) I have noticed, however, that it IS somewhat light-sensitive, much like solar-powered calculators. Try it in different lighting and see if that helps.

If the one I already wrapped turns out to have a defective display, I'll just swap mine with them and contact Saitek directly.

Now, to learn how to play....

May the Crap be with you all!!!

I can see that this is going to be an addictive little game! I know regular poker, but had never played this variation. Watched it for the first time at an impromptu get-together Friday night...but only had time for a couple of hands before I had to leave.

I lost my first hand on this, but won the next two. (Granted, it's still set on 'easy' mode....LOL)

One of these days, I might even get the directions out and read them to figure out what it is I'm actually supposed to be doing...LMAO. (Nah....it's more fun this way!)

As to the display, I have found that seems to be more position-sensitive than light-sensitive. If you look down directly at it (line of vision at a 90-degree angle to the surface of the unit), it will look very dim. If you tilt it away from you to a 45-degree angle (which is actually more comfortable for me anyway), the numbers are very sharp and dark. At least, they are on mine....

Hope that helps some of you who are having trouble viewing the display.

May the Crap be with you all!!!

yeah, I used a sample of this for dozens of hours on the way back from CES '05 and really had no issue - maybe those guys are trying it in the dark? It's not a great screen but I never gave it much thought. What I found more annoying was that the unit was too big to use your thumbs to push the buttons while holding it. It's been almost a year since I played it though so my memory is probably as dim as the lcd was.

tj willy

quality posts: 5 Private Messages tj willy

As posted back on the 14th when I got mine, the screen is a bit dim - but I found that if you tilt it outward just a bit, it is much more readable. If you look down straight at it, you will hardly see anything.

I agree with y'all. I could never ever release a product as hard to see as this thing and more than likely I will never by Saitek again if they let this quality of product leave with their name on it.

But all in all, for the price I paid with shipping, I am okay with it. I have already had hours of fun with mine. I am up 8k on normal mode... wish it was that easy in real life.

edit: and for those who want to throw those away, I will offer you .50 on the dollar for them... better than nothing, and I will pay actual shipping. anyone, anyone??? I have a cousin or two that would like this.

I'd like to give a FedEx a big thumbs down to their service:

Dec 19, 2005 7:48 PM

Delivery exception:
No attempt made, delivery scheduled for next business day

Dec 19, 2005 6:29 AM

On FedEx vehicle for delivery

I mean at least lie and say no one home, no adequate place to leave box. Don't be lazy and not bother to make a stop when you literally drive by.

Fedex shiped my texax hold'em 1 week after I purchased it when it was supposed to be 3 days!

Mine was even worse.

DELIVERED - Left at front door. Signature service not requested.

I went to the front door, and nothing was there. Called FedEx on Friday; they took my phone # and said they would call me back. They lied. I called again today and they said to contact the shipper. E-mailed service@woot.com, no reply so far. Add me to the group who wants only UPS to be used. FedEx sucks, simple as that.

11/21/05 12:00am: Still no response.

Update: Woot replied and offered a rebate or a second shipment. Since I got it for my poker-crazed brother, I took the shipment. Thank ya, Woot!

I haven't received my 3 either. The info from Fedex is:
Dec 17, 2005:
5:31 AM - Departed FedEx location;
6:06 AM - Package returned to shipper (delivery exception).
So 35 minutes after FedEx loaded it on their truck -- they unloaded it and returned to shipper because of a 'delivery exception' (whatever that is).

No word yet from Woot Customer Service.

+++++++++++++++++++++++ UPDATE ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Heard from Woot customer service today (Wed, 12/21). Woot reported that the 'delivery exception' was that someone in the Woot shipping dept. put 2 different mailing labels on one box. They indicated that they would re-send it out today. I hope they ship it expedited overnight -- because if the games don't come before Christmas, I have no need for them.

+++++++++++++++++++++++ UPDATE 2 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
They did not arrive in time for Christmas. So I had to scramble on Christmas Eve to find new stocking stuffer gifts. I have no use for 3 of these things, so I guess I'm going to have to request a RMA.

Happy New Year to all Wooters!

I got this yesterday and was going to wrap it today for my Dad. Good thing I thought to put batteries in before wrapping it. Sadly, it does not turn on. My batteries are fresh, I just bought a package at Costco on Monday... I tried several sets of fresh batteries, made sure they were in right and everything. It just does not turn on at all. My first Woot purchase and it doesn't work. What shall I do? Request an RMA? Or does anyone have any advice?
