Haven't tried this particular model, but I've had Lenovos for a couple years now and they've worked quite well for me. I'm using one right now in fact.

Lots of IdeaCentre reviews on Alatest.
http://alatest.com/searchaction.html?keyword1=Lenovo+IdeaCentre+H210

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

You get a free upgrade to 7 - it just isn't pre-installed

Add a real video card and put Linux, XP, or Windows 7 on it, and you've got yourself a good computer for a good price.

Looks like it comes pre-infested with Vista

But it's eligible for upgrade per description...

So... Shall we declare it a steal?

Seems cheap for what it does...

My inlaws were on a lookout for a new PC, and this seems like the price is right... but is it too good to be true, or am I missing something?

Is there a catch? Anyone?

Decent machine, good for office work. Dual core and 3 gigs of ddr2 is pretty quick for excel, word, outlook etc. If you are looking for a gaming machine, you would be looking to increase the memory at least to 4 gigs of ram and a better graphics card.

It's actually a decent deal for its price.
If you'd call it a catch, it's that it's a low-end computer. But it'll serve you well.

A good question would be - can it in fact be downgraded to XP? I know there are new computers these days, that just don't have XP drivers available for some of the hw...

Vista is obviously not a way to go, but deciding between a more or less stable XP vs new but promising 7 may be tough...

It doesn't have a video card...integrated, VGA video. It does, however, have a PCI-E slot, so you could add a card.

what is a signature?

Check lenovo's site, see if they have XP drivers for it. I wouldn't downgrade though windows 7 doesn't have as much background services as vista does.

Well, my inlaws would not play RPGs on it for sure... Getting online and typing up a few letters is about all they need... Oh... and an absolute requirement - IT MUST BE POWERFUL ENOUGH TO RUN SOLITAIRE!!!!

I just checked the link to the free Windows 7 upgrade from Lenovo and it actually will cost $17.95 for shipping the Windows 7 upgrade. Could be an issue for some. Not quite free.

not for me. Last thing I need is another desktop.

Technically it would require a PCI-E card. PCI is the older parallel standard, whereas PCI-E uses serialized links, ganged from 1x to 16x wide, each independently clocked which avoids skew problems as clocks get faster and faster.

Seriously considering purchasing, but I do have a few questions for anyone who would know better than me as I haven't bothered upgrading video cards on anything in the last 8 years lol. Would the 280w psu be good enough to upgrade to a mid-range graphics card? Any suggestions for a good card? Not looking to upgrade to the best of the best, just something good enough to play games at a decent framerate and preferably HDCP compliant for potential future bd-rom. If you would recommend a power supply upgrade, any suggestions as far as a particular spec to look for or any specific psus? Thanks for suggestions.

You should be able to fun XP on it just fine. All the drivers are available from Lenovo's support site:

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=46

However, Home Premium doesn't include downgrade rights. This means that you must already have a license of XP available for use.

Additionally, try out Windows 7 first. It really is an amazing improvement.

Anyone know how many optical/HDDs this thing can hold? It doesn't look like it can hold another optical drive. That'd be a deal breaker for me. Dois it have IDE connections?
