Debelli wrote:Besides saying it has Windows 7 installed what are the other specs that are different that makes it worth the price, I don't see the difference other than Windows 7?

FYI, if the only difference is the Windows 7 than it's still cheaper to get it from Woot and pay the upgrade and shippig, still comes out cheaper. Even if I go through Ebates, it still comes out the same with Woot. So, I just need to know if there are any actual spec differences.

Anyone????????

the woot model has a 3650 video card while the one from microsoft store has a 4650, also the processor is 100mhz faster..not that it makes much diff. but the graphics card is a definite difference its about double the speed of the 3650. so if you need the improved graphics for light gaming, get the one from microsoft store, if not save 50 bucks and get it here at woot.

Leno was never fired from the Tonight Show - he planned his retirement and announced Conan should get the show YEARS AGO. Check the Wikipedia article on the Tonight Show - NBC decided in 2004 they would make this change. But they wanted to keep Leno from starting a show somewhere else plus keep Coco at NBC. Can't have your cake and eat it, too, I guess.

Plus, Leno was last in late night ratings when he took over the show initially. They gave him time to build up his audience and get back to #1. They should do the same for Conan.

Everyone has their opinions on who's funnier, etc. I loved Carson when he was around, but Leno seemed a bland, predictable replacement. I still liked him, but didn't watch the show often. Coco is the next generation, very funny and brings a newer audience to late night.

Oh Conando!

all the drivers are available for Linux. If you're looking to do anything hack-worthy (in the realms of AirPCap/active hacking) you're going to need a separate video card.

In terms of "usablity" for general use, though, this will run the major distributions (unbuntu, fedora, etc) out-of-the-box with all of the standard software and run them well.

But yeah, other than that, exactly the same! (if you are talking about the A600 - 30116CU that is $699 at the Lenovo site).

Only the basic unit without the 4in1 remote etc is the same price. The full up version like this unit is 1299 at the Lenovo site.

I am wondering if the tilt of the unit will allow it to tilt back below the 18.22 height to maybe 18 or 17.75? My current kitchen LCD TV is tilted slightly back in use, so tilted slightly back is the way I would use it.

Based on 18.22" tall and a backward tilt of 15 degrees this would result in a height of 17.63" tall.

--------------------

Thanx a bunch for your analysis and help. I, indeed, pulled the trigger. I looks like a seriously fine unit to my estimation.

Just last week we were shopping in Costco and Sam's Club looking for a TV with DVD player of this approximate size for the Kitchen. That's DVD player, mind you, not recorder. We didn't buy but for one that you would want it was 400+, plus tax, etc. So, considering what you get with this for the addtional 300, seems a pretty good deal to me. My first IBM/Lenovo but have only heard and read good things about them. Plus, with the remote control/VOIP piece, it's a real plus since we are active users of VOIP (Majic Jack: works like a charm - try it). This is gonna make the MJ a far more convenient and more usable phone. Again, thanks for the help with dimensions.

comparing the specs its the A600-3011CJU on the lenovo site its $849 there, if you are outside TX and dont mind the slower graphics card and installing windows 7 then the woot deal is cheaper
$699 + 5 + 17.03=721.03 vs
$749 +tax

Good catch, but the actual value/price is somewhere in between. You can find several items the Woot deal has that are not included at the 849 price, so the price is above that, nearer to next level.

But whereever the ball comes to rest, it's one hellofadeal, seems clear to me.

I just watched an episode of Coco's show with guest's Gary Oldman (main antagonist in the 5th Element) and that Dr. Clayton Forrester Dax Shepard from who cares. Perhaps I had the volume to low, but I was getting the impression that the audience wasn't to enthused with the line-up. Conan's ability to manipulate the purely awkward to his gain and transform the most asinine things into the most hilarious content I've seen on cable, proves his worthiness of hosting the Tonight Show.

Leno is a fail...

I'd be all over this product if I didn't just lose my job.

Thanks! The one from the MS also is bluetooth enabled and they have all this software supposedly that comes only on their PC's at the MS? Unfortunately, they charge taxes, which I don't understand, I thought they had to have a store in the state you are in to charge taxes???? So, even with all doing it through ebates and not having to pay for the upgrade, it will still cost me $50, if there wasn't taxes, it would be the same as Woots in price.

Good lord, how could you like TMZ?! That show is a blight upon television and its producers and 'actors' are an embarrassment to humanity in general. If this nbc/conan debacle does end up getting TMZ yanked from television, I'll send everyone involved a bouquet of roses.

That was one of Conan's biggest issues. He wasn't getting good guests. Leno was getting more A-list guests, and Conan was getting the leftovers. (Or many cases, he'd get the same guests as Leno, several days after they already did Leno's show. No fair!)

bkeokip wrote:Has anyone had an experience with the VeriFace face recognition software? I'm curious as to how it works exactly...

This has ended but I stopped by to look something up.

We have that VeriFace on our notebooks. It works fantastic.

You let it scan to read aspects of your facial features. Once done and you set it to "on" whenever you boot up you have to let the built in camera scan you face to unlock the computer and allow you to log on.

It worked every time I used it.

Tip: If you wear glasses, remove them BEFORE the initial scan for it to learn the face. it does not scan well (or work properly) if you scan with glasses on.

It will tell you onscreen before the scan to remove your glasses. Do so. Some people think that is a silly thing and don't remove their glasses. Then they post on the tech support forums that their VeriFace is not working properly. LOL.

Also, a family member of mine ordered this and got a wired keyboard and mouse instead of the wireless one. They wanted the wireless one because of the snazziodal trackpad and the nifto orange stripe which, of course, matches their fruitbowl. Not to mention that "wireless" is the future of computing.

Oh, Woot, please send them the proper keyboard and mouse.

Yeah, I was excited too.

But mine arrived at about 10:30 this morning, opened it and same. Wired keyboard and mouse and no touchpad on the keyboard.

This is one of the lesser versions of the unit. The website or maybe it was one of the reviews shows that the unit comes in four configurations. This is one of the lesser configurations which I would not have bought. The Woot product page shows it as a full up unit, but this unit is not it.

Very disappoing. But I'm sure Woot will try to make it right.
