Well, glad I decided to pass. Not wasting money on something that gets that many bad reviews.

I was just looking at getting a wine fridge and it seems like every one has a crappy rating. Even many of the super expensive Vinotemp models are for scaffolding...

This is really good for long-term storage for those of us who live in apartments and don't have basements. It keeps the wine temperature relatively constant. A refrigerator isn't as good because of vibrations, and I don't need to keep the wines I'm storing that cold.

I've got an eight-bottle one I've been using for years. I guess I'll get this, too.

I'd rather get a smaller fridge for the same price. I don't need to show off my cellar. They really should have put this next door at w.w.

Still, the woot off is turning out better than I thought so far. I was expecting an online garage sale of junk.

I have the 6-bottle version (also Cuisinart and made by Conair) which died after 6 months. They replaced it (I had to pay shipping) and the new one is now dead. This is a wine CELLAR, not wine FRIDGE meaning it can get cool but only if the ambient temperature is below 70 degrees.

Complete and utter junk.

Was actually considering this until I
read reviews. Price doesn't matter if it just doesn't work right.

Apparently it has condensation problems, not good.

Thanks for that link. I was just about to pop for a pair of these, but those reviews have definitely changed my mind. I wonder if the refurbishing had anythig to do with the condensation problems?

a) It absolutely has condensation problems -- water pools on the bottom on a regular basis

b) if you're prone to power outages, the temperature does NOT reset to where you had it before the outage. Make a mental note that, when you're changing your digital clocks after a power outage, you also need to reset your fridge.

We don't love ours, but also haven't found a decent replacement, either.

I read lots of reviews that said this thing leaks condensation water like crazy! I found overwhelmingly bad reviews and virtually NO positive ones. Shame on woot for re-selling a known bad product!

Duncan92

I have had one of these for the past two years and it works great. I haven't had any complaints for it at all.

Having said that, I don't keep the wines super-cold in this fridge. The complaints I have read about this seem to be related to keeping the wines at the lowest range of temperatures, but if you want to keep your wines fresher longer you don't want to store them at the lower temperatures anyway.

I would suspect that the "problem" with these is that the solid state Peltier cooling devices don't cool very fast, and they don't have a very high BTU rate. Long as the box is very well insulated and no one opens the door it should maintain a useful temp. Eventually. I have a small Peltier picnic cooler and it takes a rather long time to cool anything.

I'm willing to bet the refurbs were either just because some retailer couldn't unload these, or because they were repaired after condensation caused some issues.

Solution: Leave it sitting a slight grade and put a couple holes in the bottom so the condensation can drain. Sit on top of a drip pan (like for your washing machine, but smaller) or near a drain in your basement.

Just a thought.
