ditto from a person who has bought at least 96 in the last 3 1/2 years, the servers crash everytime. Oh well. I got the Boggy Old Creature once and it wasn't anything to write home about. It's the "hunt" and "get it" that is fun....if not no big deal, your not missing out.

If you don't get the Boggy Old Creature, send that money to Haiti.

I would be tempted to buy, and this is a nice looking piece. However, I am an engineer and I prefer a slim (small diameter) pencil when doing detailed calculations.

Just my preference, but I do prefer a small utensil for detailed calcs!

I've been using these for ten years now, I love 'em. I'm only on my third one, I've been looking for another and haven't seen any in the stores. I'm in for three! That should last me a while.

hackernun wrote:Well, besides being a Woot addict, I'm an office supply addict. These retail for about $9, though you can sometimes find them for $7 ... and they are absolutely the best mechanical pencils I have ever used for less than $10.

I bought three of these here a year or so ago -- same pencil but with burgundy color plastic barrel rather than cherrywood. I think I paid about a buck each.

Absolutely the best pencil I have ever used. I don't LIKE pencils, but I swear, these are my favorite writing instrument bar none. (Prior to these, I favored gel roller pens.)

They are SO incredibly smooth that you have to try them to understand HOW smooth they are. You can draw the faintest line with the lightest pressure, all the way to a dark, bold line with heavy pressure, always perfectly silky smooth...

And, the eraser is amazing, must be two inches long when fully twisted out -- it will last a LONG time -- and, it's easily replaceable (presuming you can find replacements).

Leads are readily available at excellent prices, made in Japan like the pencils (MUCH better quality than most of the stuff we buy these days), and very easy to load into the pencils (including spares).

The spring tip feature means that it will continue feeding lead out AS you write with it (just apply a bit of pressure when needed), so you don't have to futz around with it as the tip wears down.

In for three; I can get rid of all my stupid elation momofuku cheap-ass pencils and move the lead into something that won't aggravate my carpal tunnel.

In for two; I can't justify the additional $5 for three, and I already have a half-decent stock of cheapo ones, but their erasers suck the big one.

Interested to see how the spring-loaded lead works.

I got a couple of these in my Santa's Sack of scaffolding. I really, really like them. I wouldn't have purchased one on my own before, but now that I know what's it like to have a quality mechanical pencil, I'd probably spring for 3 of these (to make the deal work properly). I would, that is, if I didn't already have two.
The best thing I like about them is the eraser. With my cheap-o mechanical pencils, the eraser always runs out, usually causing me to toss the pencil and get a new one. These have a looooong eraser in them that'll last a while. Also, the design seems to make it less likely that the lead will snap off if it's slightly too long.

In a 1000 strong totally silent lecture hall the power of the cough/barker can be heard in 8.5 High-Def surround sound. Take that back, more like the sound when you go to the Omni- Theater and watch the Kuwait fires.

My son does the sniffing/snorting thing. It is a tic that he can't control. It has gotten better over the years as he gets older, but it is still quite annoying. I always feel bad for him because I don't want people to feel like you do, towards him. But, I also feel that way at times. When his nerves are bad or if something is on his mind, it is worse, but it has calmed down alot and I hope eventually it goes away all together. He is 16. Some days he doesn't do it at all, so that is a good sign.

i gotta agree, we have smaller lecture halls as we are a smaller school, but even then even a foot scuffle is ridicuously loud, and when your half way thorough a Physics question and lose your thought and have to start over, its not fun at all
