Try dividing 60/24 or say 120/24 now which one is better for Blu ray?

stazja01 wrote:It depends on the company and the process. I bought a refurb zune 80 from woot awhile back. First one froze out of the box and had white spots on the screen. After sending it back Microsoft sent me a totally different refurb unit... which wouldn't synch past 3 gigs. Sent that back and they finally sent me a new one that I still have. It took me several months and three units to get a working one. So yes, it can be wise to be cautious about refurbs.

My girlfriend's ipod classic (refurb directly from apple.com) is still going strong after over a year though.

I am rather tempted by this tv though (saw the other price-would buy it there first). I'm still running an old tube sanyo that was a walmart floor model about seven years ago. Thing ways a ton and has a grainy picture compared to my 22" computer monitors. This especially hurts when split-screening a game on the 360. Just not sure if I want to drop the money on this.

There are exceptions to everything. Your experience was with one item from a certain company. One bad company doesn't mean the rest should be held accountable. With your logic you should have loved refurbs after your girlfriends experience. Get what I mean? Not trying to jump you or anything. Just trying to make some sense.

Have a great day my friend!

with LCDs there is a difference. Yeah, I'm not looking for the 240 yet but refreshing twice makes the motion smoother. LCD are particular problematic with motion.

I still disagree- but as I said, when I was sitting in front of a ~50" playing at 120 Hz a few years ago (in a circuit city- ha ha!) it gave me a headache to watch. Maybe the tech has improved since then. Then again, I still won't buy DLP because of the whole color wheel issue. Mind you, I don't buy TVs or monitors- I use projectors and have never looked back.

i had this tv and it was amazing, all around.

however, there is a slight problem, but it's fixable. the speakers hum. all the time.

hopefully woot sends this information out to everyone who buys this tv. i got it from slickdeals and it was a godsend. through this secret menu, you can also remove the inputs that you don't use. since i only cycle between VGA and TV, i no longer had to press the input button on the remote 8 times to switch. pretty useful.

--------------------
32LB30Q hum fix
From JD at oncorpus.com [manufacturer of the 32LB30Q]
--------------------

Please follow these instructions, should fix the hum issue:

1. Turn tv on
2. Input mode should be tv
3. Turn volume to zero
4. With remote enter 9 8 7 6
5. A menu will appear on left side
6. Arrow down to backlight and with right arrow key move number from 81 to 83, press menu button twice,
7. Turn up volume and listen if hum is gone.

I returned two LCD TVs (60hz) because the motion was just to jerky and ended up with a DLP. I don't get the rainbow effect that others do but I get horrible motion sickness from some 3D movies. I am super sensitive to movement. My dad's LCD does not give me the headache of the 60hz. Also BluRay actually has to deal with the odd differnce in Hz not harmonic.

Also - Just to add to the Proscan brand discussion. As mentioned - Proscan is an RCA brand, but to add further clarification, it is the RCA "Elite" brand. Now since RCA stopped actually building anything years ago, I doubt if there is a lot of difference, but it likely has a little better specs/ feature set than the equivalent RCA.

Also on Refurbs... a very large number of refurbs are returned simply for buyer remorse or other non- quality issues:
Bought the wrong size
Got two for birthday
Super Bowl Party is over...

Actually that last one is HUGE... buy your refurb TV in March and it likely is OK with less than 10 hrs of usage.

Every refurb I've purchased is still just as good as new and I've bought tons of them. Don't confuse reconditioned or something done at a second vendor with refurb. Refurbished goods are done at the factory they came from and in most cases they never get out of the factory before being fixed.

there's no standard on what a refurb is.

NightGhost

Mostly confirming what others have posted but:

I like to do side-by-side comparisons of TVs in appliance stores - this means a lot more to me than comparing specs. On a slow night, a helpful salesperson will often be happy to put the same blu-ray disc on a few sets. I've found -

It's nearly impossible to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32" screen.

120 and 240Hz are mostly hype. You have to seek out specific fast-action scenes to see a difference (I found it was more obvious if the scenes were darker too). It's even harder to tell with a 1080i sports broadcast.

Of course, that doesn't mean I don't want a huge 1080p screen with 240Hz. I'm a guy, after all.

Truly I cannot tell the difference between the 720p and 1080p on a 47" screen but I can with the 60hz and 120hz with a LCD. I think 720p is fine for a 32" screen. 1080 is over kill.
