Because they bought a bunch of sets and gutted them. Next we will have another set of two knives to choose from!!!

If these were offered together.

and they came with a sharpener and cool storage block.

and They were 25.00 cheaper.

Then I might get one. Maybe.

Checking out the woot stats on this "fine product"....

Seems like it's a big seller in the Dakota's and Montana. Obviously the advantage of lots of undeveloped countryside available for dumping bodies and abundant wildlife to dispose of said bodies. The census will take a hit in these states as the violent crime rate increases. "Really, officer, I bought the knife to aid in my elk processing business!!"

Not outdoors. I don't need to be that close.

Back up the truck. Why are we even discussing this? I don't want to kill my family. I think Darth is trying to live vicariously.

Well, unless you're planning on surviving do you really care how much of a mess you'll make? It's not like you'll be cleaning it up.

It's actually a very good knife...I bought the Yanagi several years ago when I was still working as a Sushi chef. One thing to consider though, the bevel that guides the knife through fish for the clean cuts of sashimi is only on one side. So while the description describes the handle as good for either right or left handed, the blade is designed for only one or the other. In most cases, the mass produced knives of even Japanese sushi knife makers (Matsumoto, Arigutsu, etc...) are right handed, and the left handed ones sometimes have to be custom made, and are always more expensive...

Hope this helps...

For all of you who thinks (because of the name I assume) that the Kai Shun knife is an Asian made knife...

These are made by Kershaw Knives. They are designed by Alton Brown, who you can see on Iron Chef America...

Marketing is a wonderful thing...

A Kai Shun knife sounds like a knife I might want in my kitchen...

A Kershaw Brown knife sounds like a knife i'd do some whittlin' with or maybe play mumblety-peg

People will get more use out of the deba than they would the yanagiba. The latter can be used as a slicer for american cooking styles but that's about it unless of course you make your own sushi. The deba can be used to break down whole chickens into 8 pieces, to cut large portions of meat (roasts) into smaller portions like for stews or shish-k-bob's for example.
