I think the reason for unrest over this item is that it won't work on other networks with "jail-breaking" it, which would void any warrenty and certainly negate many of the features of this phone which to have must be through AT&T.

Therefore it doesn't make much sense to me.

if you get this, not contract required. Jailbreak it with BlackRain, don't update the Software, and then install the geohot unlock. Takes all of 5 minutes. Then you can use T-Mobile or sprint, anyone who has 3g/GSM.

Edit: Sorry. forgot spring wasn't a GSM Carrier..... my bad. T-mobile then.

SPRINT IS NOT GSM. Cannot be used under any circumstances on Sprint. T-Mobile, yes if jail breaked.

Not entirely true... Unlocking the phone anf Jailbraiking are 2 seperate processes. You can unlock without voiding the warranty. And if you DO decide to jailbreak no worries about the apps because an antire new worls opens up for apps and most are free. And you won't loose too many features that you'd be missing out on...

Maybe now makes more sense?

walmart has the same phone for 97 bucks

I saw one of these phones at a rummage sale for $3.00

That's right! I bought mine on eBay for $305. Then I did a jailbreak and an unlock. Now I have T-Mobile pay-as-you-go. I paid $100 for more minutes than I will use in a year (I'm a guy). I just don't have a data plan yet, but I'm usually near a wi-fi. I'm hoping that pay-as-you-go data plans come out soon. ;)

No, sprint does not use simm cards, but I believe that Nextel does.

Please stop putting up the bags of scaffolding at exactly rush hour. The cell-phone-in-the-car-pool thing is really difficult even with the smart phone, and when if it is my day to drive it can be downright dangerous. I thank you in advance for taking this to heart and putting it up at closer to 3p EST.
