Not sure if time is measured differently on big screen TVs or not, but I've been using a 5 year old LCD (back when ~20ms times were hot stuff) with minimal ghosting and no ill effects on my gaming.

Of course, response times are a joke anyway, since there's no standardized way they're measured by companies. They can do any sort of fiddling around with a test to get the best number possible without it being representative of any actual real world use.

To me it's just too small and lightweight. I guess some people may like this, but I've never had a remote for a tv/cable box/dvd player etc that took AAA batteries. I don't hate it enough to buy a new remote, I was merely saying that seemed to be one of the biggest complaints on the bad reviews I read of this tv. Nothing to pass up this deal for in my book.

I bought this same TV from Costco for $999 and it was broken from day 1, but we couldn't figure it out. The screen was somehow radiating some kind of signal blocker that would render all my other remotes useless(cable, dvd, surround sound, etc...).

Costco blamed Phillips, and Phillips played stupid. I ended up suing in small claims court. I signed something saying I wouldn't discuss the outcome. But I will say that I happily dismissed my lawsuit.

If the TV doesn't have the same problem mine had, I would say buy one quick because it's a great price for a beautiful TV(if it works right).

Now this is great feedback. I have a friend that works at Jiffy Lube and he told me that I need to change my oil every three thousand miles. I have another friend who sells cars and he insisted I buy the extended warranty and the "undercoat" protection. One of my other friends sells furniture and boy did I feel lucky when she told me about that scotch guard protectant they offer at a nominal fee.

As confucious says..He who is not aware of sales pitch ends up with 120hz and many hundred less in pocket when 60mz meets the vast majoity of viewing needs..

bought this at target back in May for $850 (also a refurb) the HDMI3 stopped working. or at least i thought it did. simply changed my ps3 to the HDMI1 and no problems since.

the HDMI3 probably still works, I just don't really bother to check.

You have to be a TV subscriber too but they should give you a discount since they're already your ISP. Call them and ask what kind of a deal you can get.

My roommate bought this TV (or one very very VERY close to the same thing)through woot a while ago and it is pretty flippin' awesome. I use it for 360 games, and Hi-def out put from a sony laptop with a HDMI cable, and the picture is Amazing. Draw back would be the speakers, most of the time they aren't terrible, but nothing fantastic to talk about, if you want to be wowed you'll want to pony up for some nice speakers.

Not terribly relevant to this woot, but does anyone besides me think that the picture on a 120hz TV looks ridiculous? It looks like everything is shot with a soap opera camera. I don't know if I'll ever get used to it.

The refresh rate and response time are not that important. I am a broadcast engineer with a major TV network. I maintain $90,000 cameras and $60,000 projectors. None of the monitors in our facility have refresh rates higher than 60Hz. Colorimetry, stability, reliability, and features like 1to1 pixel display are more important. Contrast ratio is very important, but the numbers are meaningless. No image has a 29000/1 contrast ratio.

I have the 47" version of the 1080p 3000 series. The input lag is atrocious. It's at least 60ms, if not more. That's like 4-5 frames between when you do something and when it appears on the screen.

When I run Dish Network @1080i via HDMI, I use the digital audio out of the TV to the digital in on my receiver. The TV lags the audio frames through its speakers to match the on-screen action. The digital output is not lagged along with it.

FWIW, I'm playing Wii at 480p. I don't know what the input lag, if any, is when you use 1080p sources.

Also, the viewing angle on this thing is bad. You can see the picture clearly from any angle, but it washes out even at the edges when you sit perfectly centered, 2 screen widths away. It's a rather minor issue and one I accepted when I chose to go with a bargain LCD instead of a mid-range plasma.

That said, the one thing I didn't know or count on was that input lag. Mario dies more times on the ice world because of this than I care to share.

I have the 47" version of this TV and I *mostly* love it. Comcast HD and XBox 360 look great. BUT, I have a Samsung Blu-Ray player and movies look awful, super grainy. I tracked it down to the "Pixel Plus". On the remote there is a mode where you can preview the "improvements" of the Pixel Plus. The unadulterated side looks great, the other is just plain bad and there is no way to turn off this "feature". I have not seen this mentioned anywhere else on the web. It could be a combination of the Blu-Ray player and the TV, or just the TV, I don't have another player to test it.

Just returned this TV (bought new) to Target. We barely used it and one time when we turned it on it froze on the Phillips screen and refused to respond to the remote/buttons. Had to pull the plug and plug it back in, still happened. Apparently this is a common problem if you get a dud Phillips, probably the reason for these Refurbs. The picture quality was awful in comparison to our Samsung, so buyer beware on the usable life and quality of picture of these tvs, theres a reason they're so cheap.

This seems a little high for a refurb. My husband and I have learned our lesson about TV's and only buy them from Costco. You can't beat the 90 day return policy if you just don't like it and the extra years warranty that is included. We have yet to be disappointed.

Stand
I got this model during the last woot. I couldn't be happier with it. The stand appears to be rigidly afixed. No adjustment, though I suspect it can be removed. I'm not going to attempt to find out with only one good arm though. Now if you want a long rant on elbow replacements, I'm your man.

Price
You can always find something a few bucks cheaper but c'mon, $5 shipping?!?! For those of us who live two hour drive from the nearest Costco. Three from walmart, this can't be beat. Then again, I'm sure I'm in a minority here where walmart is concerned. It would cost me more in gas than I would save"

A teensy bug
I have my 360 in the composite for now and love it. Cable in HDMI 1. When the 360 turns to Hidef it appears to use the HDMI1 channel. At least that's what the screen indicates. The only issue is the TV sometimes seems to get stuck if I turn off the XBOX before switching back to cable, and refuses to release HDMI1. Sometimes unplugging the comcast box fixes it. Sometimes unplugging the tv, sometimes both, so I'm not 100% certain the fault lies with the set...yet. It's not big enough of an issue for me to waste time on.

Sound
The sound is tinny and subpar, just like my old tv. I don't know many people who use their Tv sound system anyway. I doubt you will find a tv with an awaome sound system at a price point below $2000 (just pullin that out of my a.....the air. You get the point).

Summary
I think the only people who are going to be unhappy with this set are the overly tech who obsess over minutiae, and it's likely they are never happy with anything that's consumer level anyway. I know many of you. One friend came over and was so determined to find fault with it, he spent hours putting it through it's paces. Finally he announced it was a heap of scaffolding because he didn't like the black level. I seem to recall him complaining about that on his super expensive set as well but I knew better than to bring it up. He spent the next two days "fixing" it over the holidays. When he left the screen was so dark and muddy I couldn't see anything at all, unless it was midnight and a new moon out. I reset it back to the default settings. Whala!** Perfect.

Papahbear (Papabear where available. Iorek in some locations as the law allows.)

** "'Whala!' is French for 'Tada!'" - Marge Simpson

For the average person an average set is fine.

These are the worst tv's. I had to send two back to Philips. The second time I sent the tv back they wanted to send me a refurbished one with no warranty. Then they did not have the correct size and wanted to send me two smaller tv's to make up for the one big one. This is not a joke. Do not buy Philips!!!! Their LCD tv's will start to black out after a short time. Then they will proceed to screw you. Stay Away!! You have been warned.
