Anyone know if it can be operated by a Dish remote?

My standards may not be high but they are mine!

Why? A refurb for over $500? I love woot but that's no deal. Go get a brand new Visio or Panasonic for same price or a touch more. Besides....Philips? Meh...Meh.

Costco has great prices on 42" and smaller TV's. They are truly hard to beat. I have Samsung and Visio and for the money the Visio XVT (?) is outstanding. I don't know what all that scaffolding means but I know a clear picture when I see one.

Stick to Sony or Samsung. Phillips is not the brand to have.

Figures, woot is doing this more and more often on high end items. I no longer get anything like this from here and advised others as such.

This is a not buy when you can get it new for 70-90 dollars more. Plus one vendor has free shipping.

The Woot Buyer was not thinking when they purchased them. Refurbs here used to be at least 1/3 off the retail price.

Silly Rabbit......

For people who live in the Eastern US, BJ's wholesales also has some good prices on TV's. Annual Membership is either $45 or $90, depending on the service and benefits you care to have.

The nearest Costco's to me is 15 miles away, compared to 6 for BJ's.

Correction: $549.00

That said, $549 for a new Sharp isn't bad.

It even picks up the broadcast stations in HD over QAM!

So, will this get Comcast's HD channels without an HD set top tuner?

I bought this last time it was offered on woot. 7/4/09 and I am extremely pleased with it. I did a firmware upgrade (which was easy) and it has given me no problems. Mine was refurb'd also.

There were horror stories of people getting boxes with holes in it... everyone was fretting, maybe I was lucky...but mine is great.

EDIT: But it did scare me enough to get the squaretrade warranty. FWIW

I bought this tv from woot last year for $650. The picture was good, but not great, and it broke within 6 weeks of purchase. The colors were completely off and the picture was wavy. Philips was very polite but completely unhelpful in getting it fixed. They lost my paperwork a few times, and wouldn't ship a part until I called them and complained for an hr. I probably spent 6 hrs on the phone with total, not including time dealing with the repair shop. And it was never fixed. After finally complaining enough, a year later, they gave me a refund and took the tv away. I have a Sony 120 Hz, 40" now and am completely happy with it. I would only recommend you buy this tv if you know there's a decent chance it will break and become a hassle. In that case, I recommend that you not deal with getting it fixed, just complain to Philips until they give you your money back.

42" LCD TV: $499.99
-10% code: URTYJLI8 -$49.99
+ 7% tax $31.50
+ 3 yr full warranty $45.00

TOTAL for a brand new lcd with full 3 yr. replacement only $526.49

I received my Phillips TV yesterday, and it stopped working after 45 minutes! Has anyone else had this problem with their recently purchased Phillips?

I went to my tracking email to see when my tv was going to be delivered and it said, being returned to shipper, damaged in transit. Will I get another TV? or will I get a credit and can't get it replaced?

TV arrived yesterday. Screen is cracked badly. Box has a pretty big dent in it too.

Called Phillips they told me thats "physical damage" and to contact woot.

I called FEDEX they said they handle it with the shipper not the recipient.

Emailed woot....we will see what happens from there.

That sux really bad. Maybe the community was right and we should have stayed away from them. You think that woot is looking out for you with these products but I guess it's a crapshoot. I'm kicking myself for having $535 out there when I could have bought another new for the same price. Please continue to respond with your updates on the cracked screen so we know how to proceed should it happen to more of us.

I rec'd mine today. No physical defects from what I could see in the 30 seconds I inspected it. It was a little wierd though that the stand was attached to the TV upon arrival, the last Philips flat screen I got was not. Either way I will hook it up in the next day or two and run it to see how it is.

Well guys I hooked mine up last night and it will not power up at all. The power button in the lower right hand portion of the screen turns on when I press the power button, and you can hear it trying to power up, but then a few seconds later the light goes off and the TV stops trying.

I just emailed woot and am awaiting a response. I'll let you know what they say.

Just an FYI:
Philips TVs are notorious for a delayed power up. Please allow up to 20-30 seconds for the TV to turn on after pressing Power once.

However, if the TV is in fact defective, rest assured service@woot.com will assist you in resolving the issue (ie getting you a properly working unit).

I already have a Philips flat screen so I am aware of this. However, this is a defect. I received an email with a return label that I will print out and send back tomorrow for a full refund. I'll let you all know when my refund hits.

kallell wrote:It looks like an awesome deal, however, the only downside is that it only is 60 hz. Typically anything under 40 you are fine with 60 hz, and this is pushing it.

I got a Samsung 40 inch 60 hz at best buy for $850 about 4 months ago, then saw the 120 hz was on sale for a little over $1000, so i traded it in and picked it up. To make a long story short, you WILL notice the difference between 60 and 120 hz, even on standard tv. Never go under 120 hz if you can help it.

I totally agree most people will notice it, but I'm not sure everybody prefers the result. I shut off the motion processing on the 120 Hz Vizio I picked up recently. I'm sure there are subtle differences between brands (because they use slightly different approaches to processing), but in general the additional frame rates just smooth out the image in ways that not everybody likes on every type of programming. Me, for one...I don't like the look of movies processed so they look all smooth like an afternoon soap opera shot on video tape. But opinions and mileage vary.
