I also agree to this. Programmable buttons, especially those with more than 5, can give extra options such as sensitivity functions or other macros assigned to a button. It's quite useful.

As for the ergonomics, I'm pretty sure this is for right-handed people. I own a mouse that's essentially the same shape, and it's definitely meant for right-handed people who value some inkling of ergonomics.

I mean, if you really want to tax your left hand, you can try.

I use a Razer Lachesis for shooters, and it has buttons on either side. What's the problem with using your fingers?

Rechargeables last only a day or two in wireless mice in my experience. It isn't a good use for rechargeables.

Was about to order one but it's not Mac compatible so I'll pass (I dualboot to Window 7 but mainly use SnowLeopard) Still descent price since newegg/amazon is around $30+

Have any of the people saying it isn't Mac-compatible say whether it works with USB Overdrive? Thanks.

I don't know which batteries you're using, but I find that good NiMH last about a week when I use them regularly (they do run down even when not in use). I have extras, so I just swap 'em out when it's time to recharge. Regular batteries really run up the TCO.

Some of the reviews I read state that there are only 2 programmable buttons. The others are fixed.

People - there are 5 buttons on the left side of the mouse. If you're a righty, you need to control all of them with your thumb - do you really think that's easier?

The only thing not compatible with the Mac is the iHome software, if anything. USB mice with N number of buttons are always picked up by Windows and Mac HID drivers. I am currently using a Logitech MX510, which has 8 buttons all of which map to Mouse 1 - Mouse 8.

As both Windows and Mac OS's generic mouse buttons, such as middle-click (mouse 3) and forward and back in browsers (mouse 4 and 5) there's little need to run the OEM's software unless you want to set up macros for whatever it is that you need to do.

With gaming, pretty much every game with button mapping (anything recent) will support the HID mouse buttons without accompanying software from the vendor just fine. Played through borderlands with this MX510 in Windows, for example, with full button support without any of the Logitech drivers installed. It will be no different with this mouse.

The solution to that is to buy Logitech peripherals. I have the VX Revolution, and its single AA lasts for 3 months. And it's a wireless laser mouse. My Logitech DiNovo keyboard will last for 6 months on one set of batteries. As you can probably tell, I like Logitech.

Right handed mice curve to the right at the bottom. It fits into the palm more naturally that way.

The zoom and dpi buttons are set up for index finger operation. I have a Logitech with the same button placement, and there is no way you could operate the zoom and dpi with the thumb without removing the whole hand from the mouse.

How does this work on irregular surfaces like rugs or fabric furniture. I need a mouse for my laptop that I move around my apt a lot. So I need something that will work well on most surfaces.

Most likely these will work flawlessly in a Mac. Just use steermouse or controllermate to fully configure them.

I have a Logitech wireless mouse. nothign super fancy, but it's got a nice design, side scrolling, and back/forward buttons. I use rechargables in it. My 2450mAh Energizers last so long, I don't even waste my time counting. Even the cheaper 900mAh batteries I use in it last weeks and weeks.

You must have been using some fault batteries, or a faulty mouse.

I ordered one of these in blue. It seems like a pretty nifty mouse for the price.

If someone hasn't mentioned it yet, check into SteerMouse for the Macintosh. Great mouse driver that'll let you customize a ton of buttons & acceleration. Even per App.!

I've had this mouse since Christmas and it works great.

I haven't had to change the batteries one time. It's more suitable for a right hand than a left hand. I would highly recommend it. The programmable buttons are useless. I just use one of them as the back button on my browser.

I have used this mouse with windows 7 and windows XP. It worked well with both.

Great buy for $15

You have that a bit backward. Optical mice are the ones that trouble on some surfaces, though even most optical mice work nearly anywhere now a days. Laser mice, on the other hand, have the advantage of working on almost any surface you can find.
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10166_7-6419059-1.html

Also, on batteries: two factors play here. The better your rechargeable batteries, the more reliable they will be. A name brand NiMH is your best bet, as they don't suffer the "memory" effects that NiCd batteries do. The second is the mouse itself. If this mouse has some sort of power saving feature (probably does, most do these days), a good set of batteries should last 4-6 months before needing a charge. I once got a free notebook wireless mouse that lasted for 3 months per charge on AAAs from a company recruiter; if that has power saving technology, I imagine near anything would.

Who told you this lie? If anything, optical mice (laser) are the ones that DO work on jeans. Except (top-side) trackball mice, I guess.

There are about 7% of the computer users that have a MAC and another 7% that are left handed. With neither overlapping, that's 14%.

This forum, like our country is filled with "Noise" by the left and special interest groups.

Maybe there should be a www.specialneeds.woot. Where they use large type, plain text and an "I'm Entitled" button.

I don't game that much but I have my mouse buttons programmed for things like copy, paste, close (Alt-F4), and close Firefox tab (Ctrl-W). Just makes it easier to use just one hand when browsing, editing documents or working in spreadsheets, and working with files in Explorer. Now that I've gotten used to using those buttons along with the ones you mentioned, it's hard to go back to using mice with only a few buttons.
