How is the battery life on these? Does anyone know how long it stays on, or how long of a video I can shoot on this, or how many pictures on best mode I could take before it needs to be charged?

Doesn't the color say it's purple? I looked online and according to the other sites, it is a dark purple. I think it's just the angle of the camera in the image.

On that note, I love my Casio Exilim. I have had mine since 2006 (I honestly don't remember the megapixels anymore). I would totally get this if I didn't give up shopping for 2 months.

On the note of my old camera, I used to have problems where sometimes the pictures would turn out grainy, and heard similar things with the higher MP Casio's as well. Is this the same issue with this camera?

Definitely looking to buy a new camera after 2 months haha.

I have the exact model, and I use the video functions all the time. It has WIDE mode which shoots at (848x480), STD (640x480), and LP which runs at like 5 fps at 320x240. I get exactly 20 minutes of footage on WIDE mode on my 2gb SD card. Quality is pretty good, great for YouTube stuff, but not HD. Indoor stuff can get kinda grainy, outdoor looks great.

Some of my YouTube page stuff was shot using this camera if you wanna see some sample-age: http://www.youtube.com/fellowshipofthepen

The people at cnet said "From power on to first shot takes an OK 2.5 seconds and that's the average time you'll be waiting between shots, too. Turning on the flash drives that time out to 3.1 seconds. However, while some people don't mind waiting a couple seconds between shots, the S5's lengthy 1-second shutter lag in bright light and 1.2 seconds in dim is a real damper."

I have two Casio cameras. The ex-s600 which is credit card size and only has 6 mp, and the other is the older ex-z50 with only 5 mp. Both still work great after a lot of use. I have been in situations where I had to take pictires directly into sun that was so strong that I could not see, yet I got perfect pictures. You will love the battery which will last forever. Both of mine have cradles. and the live in them, and are allways charged. I have a 2gb memory card in each camera, and can take about 700 picturs with the 5mp and 500 with the 6mp. Put a 2gb memory card in this 10mp, and you should get about 400 pics on a card. Warning... It is not possible to use a HD card in this camera.

This is a top quality camera, and a great price. I am tempted, but the color is killing the deal for me. Go for it girls!!!!

Had one. Regarding shutter-lag by the time it takes the picture, 'your subject has left the building' -- but like it enough to snag one at this price. Fits in an empty Sucrets box.

Amazon has a similar (same?) camera:

http://www.amazon.com/Casio-Exilim-Digital-Optical-Purple/dp/B001OTZQXM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1267687582&sr=1-1

Says it does HD (720) in movie mode. Also pictures of the screen on the back.

Amazon calls it the EX-S5, Woot calls it EX-S5PE .. does PE just refer to Purple? Is it the same camera?

NightGhost wrote:Mixed reviews on Amazon

Chief compliant seems to be the lens getting stuck even with very careful usage. Casio will NOT honor warranty requests for this, citing it's a "user handling" issue.

I strongly recommend buying the SquareTrade warranty for this one if you get it. They'll cover a stuck lens provided it hasn't been obviously dropped, hit with a hammer, etc.

Best case: The camera works flawlessly throughout the first three years and you still got it for $5 less than you could at Amazon without an extended warranty.

Worst case: the camera won't do anything but show "Lens Error" on the screen after 3-6 months use, and SquareTrade refunds your original purchase price, leaving you $15 out of pocket for a few months of camera use.

It looks like this has color customization but does that mean it has color accent like canon cameras have? (black and white photo with a touch of 1 color)

I love my Casio Z200, but I've noticed the S series of Casio (like this one) are a lot less spectacular than some other models.

In bright light, this camera will be awesome, but indoors without a flash you probably will have to decide between very noisy, and very blurry.

I had an Exilim camera back in the day, just a little 3.2 megapixel one. I loved it!

The Best Shot feature has this HILARIOUS feature where it will take the left half of the picture first, and then you can take the right half of the picture later and it will meld the two images together.

Taking two different people's faces and putting them together is seriously so much fun, I almost peed.

Bullcrop. It's 848x480 widescreen. BS on Amazon for saying that.

thewhoopster wrote:regarding the video feature - are you able to hear or access the audio in the playback mode or do you need to wait for the audio on the computer??

It has a small speaker on the bottom. Don't cover it with your finger or else you won't hear anything.
Or cover it with your finger if you want to watch playback when you're not supposed to and don't want the whole room to look at you.

daniellemiree77 wrote:It looks like this has color customization but does that mean it has color accent like canon cameras have? (black and white photo with a touch of 1 color)

No monochrome + single color ability. Tell me if you find it, but I've been all over it and if it's in there, you have found a magic hiding place for it.

Agreed. Very much so. They seemed to sacrifice slimness for quality of picture.

And it shoots in MJPEG codec'ed AVI files, can't find that codec for free to save my life so I can edit the videos in even something as simple as WMM.

And sometimes in really low light without flash, it will say, "underexposed" and it won't even shutter. You don't get a pic at all. You have to change the ISO. PITA.

It really doesn't matter the actually name of the color.

Rule of thumb: If you would drive a car that color, don't buy a device that color.

Go for it girls. I did - for my wife. I can see her spending a lot of time picking 1 of these 12 levels of "skin beauty."

Makeup function

In addition to recognizing faces and adjusting focus and exposure accordingly, the S5 can make adjustments to smooth skin in images and soften facial shadows caused by sunlight, creating beautiful photographs of people’s faces. The photographer can choose from one of twelve levels of skin beauty using different strengths of image processing, and can shoot after viewing the results in the LCD monitor.

I have a Canon SLR and love it most of the time. my son has a Casio Exilim. When I went to New York last summer, I took the Casio - very compact. I could keep it with me and not have to lug around that big camera case. It took great pictures, and did not have the delay that my old Nikon point-and-shoot camera did. Well worth it for the money!

I have this exact camera and love it! Took some great video at the Jimmy Buffett concert last week, and the zoom is pretty darn good considering I was in the NOSEBLEED SEATS :-(

I use this camera on a regular basis and have only charged it a few times in the past year. I can't give you exact run time for videos or how many photos I can take on one charge, but I will say that it's more than I've had with any previous camera. I'm very happy with this item, and I paid over twice this amount for it last year!

Have this camera, paired with an 4GB EyeFi wireless transmitting SD card. That is a great combo - the camera has features to allow basic management of the card from the camera, and my pics show up on my PC and Picasa within seconds of taking them, if I'm anywhere near a hot spot.

Quality is good enough - our issue has always been that the pics stay on the camera forever until someone processes them. I bought this camera specifically to get the EyeFi capability, spent $80 used on eBay.
