Bought one for my step-daughter for X-mas. She dropped it last week with the lens extended. It did not survive the drop. Bucken Froken. She breaks everything so I don't think I'll buy her another.

I have a similar Fuji camera that takes a similar battery. It has a long life (could be a few days) and it does recharge pretty quickly. When I got mine, I got an extra battery but that's the way I am. I have two propane tanks for my gas grill. I don't like to be caught with no gas (insert your own joke here) or with a dead battery. Most people get SD cards for them and with mine, I can hold over a hour of video on a 4G card. Meritline.com has GREAT deals on SD cards. There is no shipping charges but since some items come from China you may have to wait a few weeks. Other items have gotten here in a week too.
Hope this helps. I think MOST digital cameras of this type are very similar. If I didn't already have my Fuji I'd probably get this one. My Fuji was $120 but it wasn't a Woot deal

I bought this camera last August. The one thing that makes it super annoying is that if you have it in a soft case or in your pocket, if you push it, or it gets squished it is really easy to hit the view pictures button, which turns on the camera and will run down the battery.

Whenever I take this camera anywhere, I remove the battery and keep it elsewhere in the case.

time to get my woot on ;)

i don't have time this AM to research this, so can someone please tell me the battery type/charging for this camera? i either missed it in the description or it wasn't there. i could use a small purse camera if this is decent. I love my canon, but it's a bit bulky at times.

NO camera is very good if dropped, unless it is a 35mm disposable with three moving parts.

Used this on trips. 8 hours of continual photo taking. Would last two days without needing a charge. Video function would use to take five minute videos over and over during that time.

Length of video depends on card size, but note the video really is VGA quality no matter what the box says. And forget trying to take a picture at night. The other bad is the screen resolution is poor, to say the least.

But this camera is the best at the price. Great pics, decent response time. And you can beat it to mess and still have it perform.

As a person who teaches and writes on the topic of using digital cameras, I want to mention that you should be wary of posts regarding quality of photos. An AMAZING number of people have their cameras set wrong! They have the resolution turned down, the "quality" (compression) turned up, etc. They also know nothing about lens openings and why it is impossible to stop their kid's sports action indoors with no flash and a lens that can only open to f/5.6 or even f/11. On top of all that, they don't fill the frame and crop away 80% of the photo, then try to make an 8x10 print from what is left. (I had one mom crop off 97% of a 10 MP image of he kid and then complained that the photo was "fuzzy!")

It's an awesome camera, and at a great price.

I have a silver one which is otherwise identical, and it rocks!

Pictures are great, battery life is amazing... I'm still on my first full charge.

I just ordered one for my little sister.

This is a link to 500+ pictures I've taken with it.

I bought this one for my wife. The battery life was atrocious (taking both video and even just regular photos). Promptly returned. We tried everything we could think of to extend the battery life, but it just wouldn't work. Buyer beware.

Steve's Digicams has it down as one of the 2009 suggested sub-$150 cameras. I generally find they have decent reviews. I have owned 3 Casios (2 Olympus, 4 Canon, 2 Pentax, 1 Kodak, and 1 Nikon) and find them to be a better than average camera options and picture wise. Battery life on the Canon and Casios I've owned has been great, so would expect the same on this one.

For durability, all of these little point and shoot small cameras are most likely garbage if they get dropped. The only one I have that I would say is not like that is one of the Olympus cameras which is rated for decent drop heights and is also waterproof.(That’s it’s selling point.)

The smaller the mechanisms, the more likely they are to get fubar when dropped. The last Casio I sent in (an Z77) had a lens error because my daughter dropped it. It was closed and off and there were no visible signs on the case that it was damaged (it was in the small padded case). However, when you turned it on the lens would extend, make a bunch of noise, say lens error on the screen and turn off.

When we sent it in for repair they quoted $98 for repair.... So I bought a new camera since it was cheaper and I went from a 7MP to a 10MP.

Unfortunately, this is not a unique problem to Casio; it’s the same story with other brands and usually the same result.(buy a new camera rather than repair for more!) One reason I don’t let my daughter use the digital SLR!!

I'm in. Needed a cheapie to replace an aging and bigger Panasonic that sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Yes you can do better but after throwing $200 away on a "superior" Canon and their lens motor issues, I figured this Casio with fairly good reviews, fairly good features, is definitely worth a shot at $70.

I bought one of these for my wife for her birthday last month off of Amazon (oh woot how i hate you).

anyway

it is certianly a Purple with Red hues in it but it is by no means pink.

Color is good, and response time is about .5 s between button push and shot with flash on. Not a good camera if you want to shoot 20 pics in a row with flash, it takes time to recharge.

other than that, we are satisfied.

I have an older Elixim model. Though i've never timed it, I'd say there's a good 2-4 seconds between shots, so don't count on taking rapid fire shots. Otherwise, I love this camera, and am debating picking up this one just because it's a good deal.

Wifey had one. It lasted less than a week, exchanged for another one and it is still working. The quality isn't that good. It over compresses pictures, has marginal low light capabilities. It works fine if you are outside in bright light, but for indoor use its a stinker.

Only good thing it has going is the size which is the only reason she keeps it, it fits nicely in her purse... frankly a decent cellphone camera would be equal to its quality indoors.

In the answer to the every popular...."does it work with a Mac" question.... on page 98 of the manual it has an *IMPORTANT note which says "The camera does not support operation with Mac OS 8.6 or earlier, or Mac OS X 10.0. Operation is supported with Mac OS 9,X, (DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?) (10.1 through 10.5) only."

Well that is kind of cryptic. I use Mac 10.6.2. Am I out of luck with this camera?

Also, they speak of the usage of an "Eye-Fi" SD Memory Card to Transfer images wirelessly on page 103 of the manual. Has anyone done this successfully? Can this be done with the Mac?

It appears that this camera is more Windows friendly than Mac friendly because there are a couple of other features (like photo transport) where you can actually move your pictures from your computer to your camera that is listed in the "operating with windows" section but not in the "operating in mac" section.

Anyone have anything to say on using this camera with a Mac?

Best case: The camera works flawlessly throughout the first three years and you still got it for $5 less than you could at Amazon without an extended warranty.

Worst case: the camera won't do anything but show "Lens Error" on the screen after 3-6 months use, and SquareTrade refunds your original purchase price, leaving you $15 out of pocket for a few months of camera use.

REALLY worst case: The camera becomes sentient, kills you and your family, and then enslaves humanity.

I have an older version of the camera but it uses the same battery. If you are turning the camera on and off a lot the battery doesn't last long. It's worth it to go over to overstock.com to pick up an extra. Plus, our original battery died after a couple of years and Overstock had the best deal on an extra. Around $10 as I remember. Overall it has been a great camera.

We don't have this *exact* Casio model - BUT - we had a different one similar to this and dropped it down a 15 foot dried-up moat in Bari, Italy (or was it Slovenia? can't remember). It hit the wall once or twice before landing. We went to find it, dusted it off and amazingly it only had a few scratches. A screw was loose too, but easily fixed - all in all we were amazed by how well it came through the trauma.

I suspect this isn't applicable just to Casio cameras, but these cameras that are small and square (ie few protruding parts) are more likely to come through a fall with less damage than ones that aren't square.

We've been incredibly happy with our Casio or I'd be in for another one. Happy Wooting!

regarding the ICOBD principle"

key factors are: is it a big lcd screen (that can crack if landed on?

was lens OUT when you dropped it?

were you quick enough to let the camera drop against your foot before hitting the concrete?

were you smart enough to have installed the camera strap and wrapped it around your wrist?

All have been committed to me.

(I am tough on these cameras, use them for my job.

I lost some of these (small-sized) cameras when:

*I was working at a fast food joint (10 feet up--in the ceiling (yes on a ladder!) taking picture of some junk that shouldn't have been in the ceiling... ---> amazing enough it was that month's menu updates which someone stashed above the ceiling tile.... dropped camera , screen cracked, and company bought me a new one...)

* I was stupid enough to borrow someone else's camera, and it DIDNT have a strap to wind around my hand with, and yeah... fell off another ladder...

* it fell off my desk, as I as transferring pictures... (camera worked fine, display didnt.

*** In essence, these things are the new "disposable" cameras, good for a period, say a year, and then upgraded to better resolution, and more pix for the same general price.

My FIRST digital camera was a 1.4 mpix model from sony in 1992, that saved on floppies or a 20mb floppy.

My next one was 3mpix by fuji,
after that it was a 6mpix fuji

and now this one...
cheers..

i really should buy a second as a hot spare!
