Shutter lag seems to be the problem with this camera. 1 sec in bright light, up to 1.2 sec in dim, according to cnet/zdnet... Forget getting a picture of exactly what you're seeing the moment with those speeds. Still, for the price? It's supposed to take good pictures of what you do capture.

People talk about 10 MP (like they upgraded to it) as a "good thing" but it really isn't when you have a camera with this small of a sensor. Packing that many pixels on it causes "noise"... sort of like dots within the image... cnet's review says that the noise on this camera starts showing up at ISO200.

I think I'll stick with my ol' 6MP fuji.

Okay yes, I posted two relatively negative things about this camera but I still think it's a good deal for the price ;) Just wouldn't have it for my #1 quality cam.

Had one of these. My dad gave it to me because he was too old to figure it out. I gave it to my 12 year old daughter because i had a camera already, but she was too young to take care of it and consequently dropped it 20-30 times. (held up nicely too). finally could no longer take the abuse and gave out.
Bottom line..this was a GREAT camera!!! Many great funtions. I wish I had 75 to buy one. But my Sony 2 MP with the 1 inch screen keeps working.

Uses the same battery as my Nikon S220 point and shoot. almost worth buying just to have a second battery for the Nikon. Throw the Casio in a drawer until the Nikon dies or vice versa since the video on this may be better than the Nikon

I have Windows 7, and I have seen a few posts skim over the issue but it's never addressed: can I plug in this camera and simply drag the photo files over or not?

bomberfl wrote:In the answer to the every popular...."does it work with a Mac" question.... on page 98 of the manual it has an *IMPORTANT note which says "The camera does not support operation with Mac OS 8.6 or earlier, or Mac OS X 10.0. Operation is supported with Mac OS 9,X, (DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?) (10.1 through 10.5) only."

Well that is kind of cryptic. I use Mac 10.6.2. Am I out of luck with this camera?

Also, they speak of the usage of an "Eye-Fi" SD Memory Card to Transfer images wirelessly on page 103 of the manual. Has anyone done this successfully? Can this be done with the Mac?

It appears that this camera is more Windows friendly than Mac friendly because there are a couple of other features (like photo transport) where you can actually move your pictures from your computer to your camera that is listed in the "operating with windows" section but not in the "operating in mac" section.

Anyone have anything to say on using this camera with a Mac?

I have this camera and use it with my mac running 10.6.2 just fine. If I recall correctly the first time I plugged it in it gave the option to use iphoto with it as they usually do. I have also used it with Windows 7 and it worked just fine.

Video quality is quite good. If you have any editing software and a 2gb SD card or larger, this is just as good as any non-HD digital camcorder out there (IMO).

It's okay for a first camera, but it does have some flaws. You have to remove the battery to charge it. Also, the autofocus requires multiple attemps to function and does not work in low light situations. I was disappointed to find that it cannot be used as a webcam. During video recording, lens zoom is disabled.

Length of video depends on card size, but note the video really is VGA quality no matter what the box says. And forget trying to take a picture at night. The other bad is the screen resolution is poor, to say the least.

Does that mean the videos, when burned to DVD, look terrible if played on a TV?

Does it have a mounting screw for a camera stand?

David598

Well, I was going to ask if the buyer had to buy a battery for it, and if so--what kind. But then I read all the blurb about what it came with, and lo! and behold! it comes with a battery. I guess it pays to read the instructions sometimes, even though I hate reading instructions. I like things fast and intuitive.

"In bright light, this camera will be awesome, but indoors without a flash you probably will have to decide between very noisy, and very blurry."

Well ok, but I have one, and find the opposite. There are many settings which make indoor use excellent. And a little gamma editting can touch up the rest, flash or not.

Pictures are indeed fine outside, but like many LCD viewfinders and depending on the sun angle, the LCD often is barely useful.

I transfer pics to W2000 using no special driver, just like a vanilla USB drive.

Wife's only trouble is holding it steady enough with the default shutter speeds. I sugggest holding it like a SLR optical viewfinder near your face. Can see the LCD enough to frame the shot, and hand on face steadies it. Cheers.

If you have the 64 bit version of Vista or the 64 bit version of Win7, then you may have to manually copy the files over from the memory card to your computer as Casio has not yet released 64 bit drivers.

I think that's standard on any camera - but if not, the top of any lamp that has a screw on finial will work - handy for motels etc. I always mention this in my adult ed class.

I've owned one of these little babies for about 2 years now, and allow me to say that they are very sharp, well-functioning cameras. They have tripod mount receivers. They're fairly responsive too, for a tiny camera. The lens pops out quickly, and the push-button is responsive. Works well for video playback with audio. I'm constantly making video of my newborn with it, and uploading directly to MySpace for the family to enjoy. It has not disappointed in the slightest.

Can anyone tell me if this camera retains it's date and time when you pull the battery or when the battery goes dead? I am on my 4th digital camera and I can not believe I have to set the date and time every time I replace the batteries.
