Looks like it has at least 8x8 squares... Enough for a checkerboard, right? I think it'd look pretty sweet with some lighter-colored wooden chess pieces.

$259.95 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/John-Boos-Round-Walnut-Chopping/dp/B0018XXG7M

Also, that is the ONLY review on Amazon for this product, but here on Woot it is clearly described as "non reversible."

Too bad it's not a cutting board. It's a chopping block. There are quite a few differences.

Cutting boards are made for bread and "soft" items (items that don't require a lot of force to cut).

Chopping blocks are made for chopping meat up. So you can take a cleaver to the piece of meat and not worry about the block moving or breaking.

Sure, you can use one in place of the other, but if you're serious about cooking, you'll want both.

Not that I'm condoning buying a $120 chopping block but those of you saying you could make this for $15-30 are completely nuts. Buying the high grade, end-grain walnut necessary for this would be close to $50 by itself, not to mention the labor. Why anyone needs something this extravagant to cut food on is beyond me though.

I have had a Boos butcher block for over 15 years. An outstanding product, just be sure to keep it oiled to prevent splitting.

Besides, you're going to hope your local bar&grill has both. Nobody wants to wash their board between cutting vegetables, but they better between cutting meats.

I work at a central IL distributor for John Boos products. Anything John Boos is a quality product. We would sell these to a dealer for more than what woot is selling them for right now. Retail price would be much, much more.

I didn't see where the thickness was but assumong is was a full 3", the price does not seem like you're getting a fantastic deal. I've bought this from overstock.com for $99 and I've seen similar on sale at Chef Central.

Pass the wine and cheese now please!

the best surface to cut on using high quality knives is wood, any other type will dull your knives 100x faster. if maintained properly this would be as non porous as any other cutting board, but it does need a lot more maintenance, kind of like a cast iron pan, great tool, but needs a lot more maintenance than a non stick pan
