There's a review on Buzzillions.

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

I know the screen resolution is a little low, but how good would this be for gaming (i.e. if you hook it up to an external monitor)?

Not a bad laptop for the price.. Not bad at all. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I've bought two of the Acer netbooks on here already lol I love them so far

I have an HP dv6000, and I like it. Laptops are traditionally lame for gaming because of the onboard video, but mine does ok.

notebookcheck.com

has gaming benchmarks. 4200 is not a great card. you can get an acer with a 4570 for $549. no bluray though.

good price, but not great for gaming. This is an EXCELLENT notebook for a person who uses it for surfing the web and also an avid movie viewer. Having the bluray drive basically makes this a portable bluray player using the HDMI out.

Craziness....This is the exact...to the model computer that I'm on right now. Of course, I paid 800 for mine a couple of months ago from Costco. So, as far as I can tell, its a great deal.

The resolution's a bit annoying, but it is 16:9 instead of 16:10 aspect ratio.

Also, this model does not have Bluetooth.

I have the HP Pavilion Entertainment PC and it works great. Not the best for gaming, but decent for the price.

Wow, I literally just posted the same exact thing. Agree, not ideal for gaming but an all around solid computer for the price.

I bought this last time. Not a bad computer. It's not necessarily for gaming, but works great for everything else. The one problem would be that everything is high gloss. It just makes me not want to touch it, and being a laptop, that is difficult for me. Ahh... the power of OCD.

How would something like this be for running programs like photoshop? Would it be ok or should I wait for more powerful desktop?

Does this one have that ridiculously shiny plastic body like so many HPs do? Opening one of those in sun or a well-lit room is like uncovering the Arc of the Covenant or something, irritating as hell.

It's been 20 years, I am going to copy that floppy.

Don't be fooled by the Radeon HD moniker. The 4200 is an onboard graphics chip that won't let you do much more than watch blu-ray movies and waste some time on addictinggames.

If you're serious about gaming, look for a dedicated graphics card. Which one? check www.notebookcheck.net

I have an HP DV9010, which is an older model that is similar to this one and it has been a pretty good lappy. The screen housing is starting to come apart now though. Still works fine, but you have to be gentle with it. (Yes, I know that's what she said...)

this laptop has a pretty good ATI video card in it. runs all my games, but can't max out the settings. Still looks pretty good though.

I just bought this same laptop from a store that starts with best and ends in y.... for $759 and I thought that was a steal... 17 inch screen with blue ray and HDMI output.... find a better deal just with that in mind....

typing on it now... LOVE IT
Not loaded with bloat software and windows 7 isn't that bad.....(yet)

Newegg has the "better version" with the "gaming" video card for about 100 more than what I paid for the non refurb at the BB.

Hope it helps

I agree! I bought my hp a couple of years ago online, I had no clue it was so shiny (and well, I do like shiny things, but they tend to distract me...). I have a very difficult time seeing the screen in bright class rooms and there isn't a chance in hades that I'll see it when I use it outside.... oh look! something shiny! gotta go!

I just love these huge laptops like this. Love the full keyboard, 10-key, huge screen, plus portability that you don't have with a desktop PC. Only downside? It's freakin' huge to carry around!!

I dont think its too bad of a deal. The BrightView screen should be pretty clear. Also its got the nice fast 7200 RPM hard drive. Only downside (personal preference) AMD processor. But its pretty good, $600 for Blu-Ray, big HD, Windows 7 and one of the bigger batteries.

I bought this on the last go around and so far it's been very good. A few minor complaints though.

1. The high gloss shows any kind of fingerprint, dust, etc
2. The disc drive has a mind of its own at times, sometimes it plays discs, sometimes not, probably just needs a firmware update.
3. Bloatware, comes with a lot of HP stuff, some of it useful, some of it not.

I considered getting an HP last time I bought a laptop as I liked that many have numpads and are priced competitively, but sided against it mainly because of the sheen. It's just too distracting (I also like the spaced keyboards).

If the misspelled link to the energy star picture has any merit, I would say so, seeing as you can see the photographer's reflection in the darned thing.

Ok if you were ever thinking of buying a laptop from woot this one would be a good choice.

1. No Intel graphics
2. HDMI out
3. Bluray ready
4. Windows 7 x64

I'd say go for it.

I wish I could have "road tested" it for a week or so before purchasing it. But, that is the only thing that bothers me about the laptop, so I guess it's all good!
I probably would have gotten in anyway, even if I was allowed a trial period, because mine is a tablet laptop and it is awesome for college!

I do notice that the shift key on this is not crippled (Cut short, same length as the |\ key), as it is on its cousin model the dv9000.

Apple seems to hate Blu-ray ("Bag of hurt?" WTH is that), so you may have a hard time getting the drive to play nice.
(that being said I have no idea if any of the other hardware will work out either, though I have doubts about the video card too)

Greetings folks. The end of the woot-off marks the return to our normal discussion threads -- that is, off topic posts and the like tend to get pruned pretty quickly. We'd welcome you to shift discussion of the woot-off, twitter, and other topics unrelated to the laptop to World of Woot. Or, if you're just looking to hang out, the wooters in Everything but Woot don't bite too hard.

Did you know shirt.woot ships internationally? Get you some!
