Mitch G wrote:I got one of these refurbs last year from Woot (may have been in June). Here is my take:

Location: Chicago area
Grass: Normal midwestern mix (rye? a bit of bluegrass? some other stuff?)
Size: It's a 70x120 lot with a normal (1800 sqft?) 3-bedroom with attached garage. You do the math. But when buying fertilizer and stuff like that I use a 5000 sq ft bag and it fits perfectly.
Cutting habits: weekly. mulching. I hate using bags.

- Loudness: It's little quieter than my Toro gas mower. I used a sound meter last year when I got it, and they had comparable decibel ratings. However, given how the sound meter works, lower frequency sounds are under measured. So, it's probably quieter. It's definitely a more pleasant sound.

- Cutting time/performance: I am able to complete my lawn with one charge. The grass has been growing pretty good the past few weeks and there were a couple of times I wasn't sure I was going to be able to complete on one charge. But I did with just touching on the red zone.

- Mulching capability: It's not the greatest mulcher. It tends to leave a line of clumps along the right side of the path. I find that if I shuffle my right foot as I go, it breaks up the clumps just fine. Of course if you are a bagger type, then this is a non-issue. But, the bag is kind of small.

- Charging: I charge it for no more than 4 days after a mowing. In other words, I am conscious about disconnecting the charger and not leaving the battery on there forever. And in the winter, I brought the battery inside and gave a few days of charging every 3-4 weeks.

- General Feelings: I love the thing. I love the idea of just being able to just wheel it out, flip a switch and start mowing. And, if I have to stop it to pickup a toy or something, it's not a big deal. The clumping is kind of annoying, but I'm not that anal about such things, so a few clumps here and there don't bother me.

Unless something has changed from the older versions to the newer, you can charge your battery overnight (take it out of the mower). You should not be letting it charge for 4 days. I just plug mine in as soon as I finish mowing and the next day, it's ready to go again. Like I said in a previous post, my first battery lasted about 8 years - it didn't slow down until it was ready to be replaced. Neuton was pleasantly surprised when I called to order a new battery and told them about mine - they said most people don't take care of their batteries and that's what a lot of their cust. svc calls are about.

Glad you love yours too.

I have an 81 year old (female) relative that has one and loves it. She has a normal size yard, however I don't know if she can get it done in one shot. The advantage of having to recharge for those with health issues would be that it forces you to take a break and not over do. I am trying to buy (but keep getting an error) this for my dad partly for this reason, and for the fact that it is extremely quiet. The mower he uses now is too loud to watch TV in the house.

A family member has this EXACT mower and it is a 100% PIECE OF RUBBISH and should NOT even be sold as a tool but as a KIDS TOY.It is terrible and look up CLOSE at the Woot photo of the deck where the blade is and NOTICE how much WEAR and TEAR is present and SCRATCHES and SCRAPES.....I KNOW this is a "REFURBISHED" model but all these people RETURNED them to Neuton for a FULL REFUND for a REASON.....They bought them took them home and laughed and RETURNED them now Neuton is STUCK with the GARBAGE. Buy a gas powered $99 mower at the local big box store and spend 40 CENTS in gas to cut a HUGE lawn with NO PROBLEMS and who wants to push a 75 POUND MOWER AROUND!

We got this from Woot a while back and we've been super happy with it. It saves gas, it's quite, it has like one moving part so very little that will break down, and the battery lasts almost two full mows. I highly recommend it.

I would like this Neuton but I need a riding one as my yard is just to big to push. Just took me over an hour to do the back yard and it is partially in the woods and hilly.

Still have to do the front but way to hot right now.

Would like this one:

shenc wrote:Does that mean the battery is also refurbished? Which also means the battery probably not going to last up to 5 yrs? Very skeptical about this lawn mower's performance. Does anyone own one?

I've got a refurb purchased from Neuton, mine works just fine and I have a slightly larger yard than the average suburbanite. Owned it about 1.5 yrs now. My yard isn't flat as a board or anything, but it also isn't on a hill. My parent's yard is sloped in front, but I still don't have any prob doing it or mine on a single charge including some edging.

The rear bagger is small, but it has a mulch plug included so I don't always use the bag. The trimmer/edger attachment works well for me on straight line areas, not so much for curved areas though. It was free when I bought mine, I wouldn't purchase otherwise.

Weight isn't a problem for those that are wondering.

This is a great mower. I've owned mine for 1.5 years and it is still going strong. I can mow in tall grass and wet grass and it keeps going.

I have a 4500 square foot lot that I mow in about an hour with this mower.

Just keep the blade sharp and the battery plugged in when you're not mowing and this mower will last a long time.

The size of my front and back yard is a little bigger, but not much. I bought a refurbished CE5 from the company and it was more than this CE6. I love it. For the little I have to cut it's just what I needed. Once you take the battery out it weighs next to nothing.

I would say if you don't have a big yard or let your yard tun into jungle before you normally cut it, it's great.

I am for being green. But this won't last very long. And most buyers won't properly dispose of the battery and hence cause more damage to the environment. If you really want to go green, buy and old fashion push mower. You will get a quality workout and a few blisters. But your helping the environment and it is a bit cheaper than this mower and a gym membership. Here's you link to save the environment.

I bought one of these the last time woot had one. Great price compared to others.

The battery lasts about 1.5 hours on a full charge. It takes 4-12 hours to recharge. It is much more quiet than a gas mower and no cord like most other electric models.
Keep in mind the path cut is about 75% of most gas push mowers. The blade moves very fast. You walk very fast and it will cut the grass unless it is too long (>4 inches). Mulching is not so good on this model. I recommend using the mower without the include grass catcher. The bag is too small for most yards.

thanks...no thanks

Somehow, I managed with a push mower when I had a small lawn. We all did for about 50 years or so. This strikes me as analogous to an electric knife: fine in theory but the devil's in the details. I suggest a new gas mower from a reputable manufacturer (newer EPA regs)and planting a few trees to compensate.

It ain't THAT quiet and there are interfaces to prevent it. You'd have to tape the controls open and flip the unit to do it. But you'd make it on a Jack-Ass DVD.

I had one of these, and within a year of regular use, it got a short. The battery was fully charged, and once I started mowing, it'd be dead within minutes. I even bought a new battery and the same problem. I was not going to waste more $$ than a new mower cost, so now I'm back to a gas powered one.

However - it worked well on short grass. The mower width is narrow so it took twice as long to mow the long, and the bag is smaller than a gas-powered, so I had to stop and empty it more often.

Some pretty horrible reviews out there. As much as I would like to be a forefront in the push for "green"...this POS sounds like a nightmare. Go for gas/electric until there is actually a market for this thing and companies can see a profit.

who the heck would pay that much money for a push mower. After reading the spec's it would be an inconvience. I paid $150 for my craftsman push mower and it will last more than five years, and dont have to wait 12 hours each time I use it. It would take a week to mow my lawn with the battery mower.

This would do less than half of our lawn at best. Also, I refuse to buy any mower with less than a 20" cut and that is NOT self-propelled. I have no interest in pushing any mower for 90 minutes, which is what it takes to mow our lawn.

I don't consider the exhaust a major issue - the thing runs for less than 90 minutes every week or so.

This would be an acceptable mower for an urban resident with a 10' x 20' postage stamp lawn, but not good for much more.

Got delivered on Friday. Let the battery charge overnight. Took it to some fairly tall grass on my yard, and got of 50% of it all well mulched. About what I expected, given the size of my yard and the height of the grass. If I can get the rest of it done today, I'll be very happy with this mower.

I see myself taking this mower out for a bit over a couple evenings over the week. Other than it being heavier than my old gas mower, it's better in most ways.
