The supposedly less powerful dark blue V6 model that I bought on Sellout.Woot works great at my desk on the ultra quiet low speed setting. For those of you disappointed to have missed this deal, you can currently pick one up at Newegg for $19.99 (Free shipping):

Or you can get the model I own for $18.77 (in "Midnight Blue" or "Raspberry") today at Walmart:

I am soooo glad I didn't cave and buy these yesterday. I walked away from my computer, came back 7 hours later, and they were gone. Later, I saw the smaller V-6 at an Ace Hardware store, and realized the V-8 would be wayyy too big. The V-6 isn't exactly tiny.

My, you are an impatient lot. I've said it before and I'll say it many more times...

Woot usually ships with 5 business days, not including the day of the sale. We have a wonderful gentleman who will post a note here when ALL the product has shipped.

In the meantime, if you are still a Mr(s) ImpatientPants, you can use FedEx's tracking by reference to see if there's anything there. There's a link in my signature to guide you to instructions.

I got mine on Saturday. I'm a little disappointed, they really aren't that powerful on low. I'll put it this way, for their size I expected more power. They are pretty loud as well, but for the price, I'm not too upset.

-Basically, this fan is almost worthless, and "Moves Air 30 Feet" is a complete LIE. The fan in this unit is so weak, you can only feel the airflow within about 3-4 feet, and beyond that tiny distance there is no cooling effect whatsoever. A complete waste of money and Vornado should be absolutely ashamed for such dishonest marketing of a product.

Credit:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16896817035&nm_mc=AFC-Shopping&cm_mmc=OTC-Shopping-_-Fans-_-VORNADO-_-96817035

I didn't write that review but very well could have. I agree completely with the reviewer. At 3 feet, I can barely feel any air movement.

This fan reminds me of the air compressors which sell for about 10 bucks. The manufacturer raves about it being able to reach a pressure of something like 300 psig. What they don't say is that it will take forever to reach such pressure if much air volume is needed, and, in the meantime, the air compressor will probably overheat and seize up.

Vornado brags about their fan being able to move air 30 feet away (which isn't true). Besides, if I blow hard enough through a soda straw, someone 30 feet away may feel a little air movement, but it will be a puny wisp.

I should have sent you one! It is possible I was out of my mind this afternoon. Did you check the little envelope up there? I may just resend it tomorrow since it doesn't seem to want to tell me *who* I sent to, BUT I WAS SO SURE.

Love the way this look and could see lots of uses for these.

I bought them for the same reason! Set one up on my vanity last night, and brought one in with me to the office this morning. Love them! The high setting is a little loud, but it doesn't matter.

Arrived today. To put it kindly, these are large, ugly, heavy, noisy pieces of GARBAGE. Low speed moves virtually no air. High speed doesn't move much air either.

Given their weight, it will cost more to send them back to Woot than they are worth. They will shortly end up in their highest and best use - land fill.

I'm going to post an apppriate review on Amazon in case WOOT chooses to sell them again.

I'm also going to send an email to Vornado. Normally, they make good poducts. These are not.

BAD WOOT!

Received mine on Monday. I gave myself a chance to acclimate to them before I made a decision, so here is my rating.

Pros:

Aesthetics are superb. The fan just looks good. The shape, grill design, and inset brushed logo all amount to a piece that looks good on any desk. The swivel design works quite well, the cord is well made and plenty long enough. These fans seem very solidly built as well. I don't imagine it breaking any time soon. Another thing I really like about the unit is the oscillation feature. It's a very smooth, wide angle sweep, and turning the feature on doesn't create any additional noise. I'm fairly certain this feature is powered by a separate electric motor in the base.

Cons:

Airflow rates at a solid fair-mediocre on these fans. On high setting, you'd expect it to move more air. Given what it is though, a 5" or so fan, I can't complain too much. Low setting moves marginally less air but with about half the noise. Bottom line is I think people are just expecting too much from a fan this size. It sounds like, well, a fan. The buzz is a LITTLE louder than I'd like, but overall, not as bad as it has gotten a rap for. If there's anything I would revise about these fans, it's the design and placement of the controls. The rolling off/low/high switch is a bit stiff to allow changing modes with one hand, and the oscillation switch is in the rear, but not a huge issue. I'd have preferred just a potentiometer on the front with a toggle switch.

Conclusion:

The fans earn the prestigious rank of "exceptionally average" in my book. Where they excel in form, they fall only slightly behind in function. Overall though, I'd say one of these units has earned itself a permanent place on my desk. Running on low setting the noise is low enough to not be troublesome, and it moves enough air to keep my face cool and my hair blowing ever so slightly in that classic sexy way. And with the total price coming to just $25 for the pair, I can't complain. The other may very well end up on my nightstand, or even as an air circulator for my stereo cabinet.

*SUMMARY* Seems to me that because of the cool looks and name, people were expecting these to be some kind of desktop goddamn whirlwind machine. Set your expectations realistically, and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the honest assessment. It makes too much sense that a 5" fan is not going to BLOW LIKE A T(v)ORNADO! Too many whiners in here expecting WAY too much. It's TWO little personal fans & not a $25 AC system.

I just got mine yesterday and I'm seriously disappointed. On the low setting they're loud, on the high setting they practically scream, and they don't move that much air. I expected better from a Vornado.

You have a warranty with Vornado, they've always been very good with replacing defective units- have you tried contacting them here?

Yeah, but that's the thing, ya know? Not a lot of other people have the same complaint, and I know Vornado is better than that, it could just be that they're defective. It wouldn't hurt to try with them, they really do have a very forgiving warranty policy (as far as I am aware).

Were these refurbishes or something? I just opened up one of the fans I got in my box and the outside of the unit has at least 2 clear scuff / scratch marks on the outside. Not only that, but like the above poster on high its as loud as a blender on high speed setting and it barely moves air at all. Its about 2 feet away from me on my desk and the high setting is barely moving more air than the low setting. Overall I'm disappointed.

You may want to try Vornado first, as you have a three year warranty through them. They are more likely to be able to replace/repair your fans.

I ordered 2 2-packs. My wife is a Soldier's Angel, so we sent one of them to Iraq.

Of the other 3, we managed to break the on/off switch on one of them within 5 minutes. I took it apart, and the shoddiness of the construction is breathtaking. There were little dabs of glue holding wires down; it is going to fail the first time you turn the on/off switch too far.

It's not a total loss, however. If you twist the red & brown wires together, it forces the fan to run on high. (You can also twist a different pair wires together if you'd like it to run on low -- that is left as an exercise for the reader). The only downside (apart from not having variable speeds anymore) is that the only way to turn it off is to pull the AC cord. If I were feeling ambitious, I might try to rewire the on/off switch for rotation as a cut-off switch.

I used to have a very favorable impression of Vornado, but it's pretty clear that quality has slipped.
