Ummm... Considering that the USB specification doesn't have any mention of "trickle charge", keep in mind that this could potentially harm your device if it's anything more than a dumb battery...

Sounds like my own experience with the Blackberry miniUSB wall charger. Either the voltage isn't there or the controller has some kind of protocol only allows it to charge when the cord is connected to the PS3 console.

Well, I got my BOCs in one box and it included a total of 4 items ... a high school musical clock, a tshirt, a fold-up picnic basket and an octopus extension cord, of which I had just bought 3 during the woot-off. I have this before, and NO it doesn't charge your PS3 controller.

ONCE AGAIN, It doesn't charge your PS3 controller.

Okay... Let me repeat myself again, NO it doesn't charge PS3 controller. You can plug it in and pretend it is if you wish.

I still recommend you buy it for someone that wants to charge their PS3 controller for April fools day.

be careful, these motorola-specific AC adapters generally won't work with any other devices except for motorola.

have you ever had a usb->mini-b cable, plugged it into your computer with your motorola Q, and found out you need to install drivers BEFORE you can even charge it? when the same cable can charge practically any mini-b device (cellphone (HTC), camera, ps3 controller, etc...) no problem?

it's because motorola decided to f*ck everyone over by reversing a couple pins in their connectors, just to be "different".

that's why mini-b AC adapter by motorola typically only charge motorola devices, and not others (like an HTC cell phone, a Kodak camera, ps3 controller, etc...)

blackberry made it so it takes both regular mini-b and the backward-asstastic motorola chargers.

If you've bought as many of those sansa clips as I have (given away lots as gifts), you'd know why it's useful to have 3 of these. My bro, for instance, is a housepainter and uses the clip I gave him regularly nonstop on the job. He says it needs to be recharged before he ends a long day. I've suggested he should have one plugged into one of these while he uses the other and will always have a spare available. There's always an AC plug around on the job, but not a computer. So now I'll be passing these out to those I've given the clips as gifts.

Beware, this charger only puts out 1/2 Amp. Iphones, Palm Pre, and many new phones will charge much much faster if the charger puts out 1 Amp.

Voltage is the same for any USB device - it's part of the standard. The current is the difference. Apparently some of these adapters don't put out enough current, and some devices may not be happy and won't allow the battery to be charged off of it.

True, but 1/2 Amp is specification, and any USB device can work with it with no risk of damage (well, from the over current). Those proprietary USB chargers that put out 1 amp are breaking the specification (and hence cannot truly be called a USB charger)...

And is it worth it to buy a converter? I don't think so (considering the converters are typically a few bucks a piece)...

Mini to Micro adapters are 99 cents - free shipping: http://tiny.cc/micro_mini

Remember that the the amps are important. I would rather go with a 500mA charger (like the Moto CLIQ) on a device that uses a 550mA charger, than a higher amp charger - then crossing your fingers that something will not fry.

Also keep in mind that data cables don't automatically work for charging.

This will work with that phone. After all, it does uses a mini USB connection to charge. It is universal to any USB charging device.
