Just remember, the whole process is part of the game. Chatting with people, seeing who got what, waiting with baited breath. It's all good.

Ok. It's my 1st Bowl of Cereal (score!) so just want to make sure it doesn't just disappear. Thx!

Edit: And nothing yet on the fedex track-by-reference site, so I'll be patient. : )

So with Smartpost that "down the street" will add up to about 2 weeks delivery time. amirite?

My first one also! Checked the reference number on Fedex and it shows my package is 1 lb, but I couldn't tell if it'd actually shipped yet or not. At least I have a tracking number now!

Sadly, I've had my reference tracking number for a bit now, and mine is still sitting as at 1lb and status of: Shipment information sent to FedEx; CARROLLTON, TX; Please check back later for shipment status or subscribe for e-mail notifications

First time Bowl of Cereal winner, First time blogger

The Bunches of Carnations has already paid for itself! I've learned so much:

-what F5 does
-how to stalk Woot through Fedex
-how English as a major isn't a giant waste of time when used to decipher online contracts/unless it is deciphered incorrectly
-that nervousness, anxiety and anticipation don't necessarily have to be because of something bad...waiting can be so exciting!
- I'm the envy of my office for snagging a Bowl of Cereal
- DH is in awe of my ordering skills (we were doing it at the same time and I got it, but he did not..HA!!)

So, thats way more then 3 things...what ever else comes is gravy!!

Ahh...that must be the standard 'we'll ship eventually but just haven't yet' line. They tease with these tracking numbers!

1st time Bowl of Cereal'er! 4 long years of waiting!!!
My F5 key is broke, Fedex has banned me from their site for a potential DOS attack and my mailman won't talk to me anymore! I'm not obsessing about my Burden of Commitment!!! Please please please oh Woot Gods, Demi-Gods and those in power (even those not in so much power but at least a little bit of power) please send me a 60" plasma TV, a new Driver (preferably right handed) and some sweet electronic goodness (like some 2TB hard drives and a NAS storage box)!!!!1

Meh... if my kids can write Santa a letter, I can beg on Woot!, right? :-D

OK, so we all love getting a Bowl of Cereal for bragging rights and the joy of opening up the surprise in the box. And deep in our hearts we all harbor the hope that we may be the guy who gets the 50" HDTV instead of a zune.

And at the risk of being a killjoy, what is the tax treatment of getting the 50" HDTV in your mailbox? After all, It's really no different than buying winning lottery ticket. Does Woot send us a 1099 and report us to the IRS for difference in value between the "prize" value and the $8 we spent on it?

Good question however, I dont want a 50" tv so it makes your question null and void since you said everyone wants one. sorry

That's got me thinking about woot's tax situation for the bandoleers. Do they get any kind of tax writeoff for putting expensive stuff in the bags of crap and selling it at a loss? Will the IRS step in to become the ultimate gallivanting alpaca, keeping us from ever getting the prize again? Who knows. Much about your tax situation would depend on what woot did. If they do not turn in any kind of tax forms, you shouldn't have to either.

Also, I hope to get enough letters to play scrabble with.

Either that, or that mysterious white substance woot accidentally shipped out... >_>

think of it this way. You paid $8 for random crap. Would you claim a purchase for $8 on your taxes? It's not a sweepstakes or a a contest it's a regular purchase of mystery items for $8.

This is equated to a lotto a lot, but I don't thing its like that at all, from a tax perspective. We offer consideration and we get crap. everyone gets soemthing. Its not a drawing. There are no prizes to be had, just crap. It like if you got a good deal on toilet paper at costco, would the price defference between youe deal and retail be taxable? I would think not, but again engineer not editor.

No! Now if they already sent you three mini-tripods, everybody else is going to get WORSE than that!

Actually, never mind. This is acceptable to me. I'd dig seeing how they could give less than three mini-tripods. Maybe a used left slipper, a copy of Word Star on 5.25" floppies, and a gift certificate to the Stardust Hotel in Vegas? Those would be AWESOME.

That one’s pretty simple. If Woot pays less for the products they sell us (in the aggregate) they make a profit and pay taxes. If they pay more for the product than we pay them they pay no taxes but ultimately go out of business.

Admittedly it’s a grey zone. We all pay $8 and all but one of us gets a Bowl of Cereal. But one person gets a 50” HDTV (or whatever). At the other extreme we could think of all of us paying $8 and all but one of us getting nothing (empty BOCs if you wish). The other person gets the 50” HDTV. Somewhere in there it becomes a lottery and it gets taxed as gambling winnings. I can guarantee you that if Woot gave one lucky Bowl of Cereal buyer a million bucks they’d be getting a 1099 reported to the IRS. It’s a question of degree, not a bright line.

If Woot closes its doors for the day at 5:00 we have only 2 more hours of shipping left

will they make it in time???
