Hey now, FedEx Ground doesn't have the bad rap that SmartPost does. Y'all should be getting it sooner than that (hopefully).

Also, please note that for some reason FedEx is having issues tracking packages today. Please make sure to give the package a good 48 hours to show any movement on the site before flipping out and blaming us for ruining your fabulous beach weekend.

Anyone look into the difference between kce-250bt and kce-400bt?

kce-250bt is newer and cost more but with less functions, so is it better to just get kce-400bt?

Thanks.

Anyone having problems with Sirius? Got every thing installed and working fine, then ten minutes later it no longer show the Sirius as an option when changing sources? Already paid the subscription and was working fine. Went back into the house and back out to find this.

Finished my installation today, added the KCE-400BT Bluetooth adapter, KTP-445 Head Unit Pack, PAC TR-7 to bypass the video disable, a PAC SWI-JACK steering wheel control, and an Audiovox XMDirect2 kit (already had the univeral box, just needed the cable for the Alpine).

I'm glad it's finished, I think I'm really going to enjoy this HU, the sound is remarkably better than the Sony it's replacing, even though the Sony had a 7 band EQ. The software seems a little slow, but I'll get used to it.

Now, to find a good deal on the HD tuner and the rearview camera, I'll be all set. Maybe even the DVD changer or Nav if I can find them on closeout. You listening Woot?

Thanks Woot!

What's up with the brake wiring connections? I assume it's to prevent you from watching video unless you are parked, right?

I saw reference to a PAC-TR7 that is needed. Is that just to allow video? Will radio/ipod audio/mp3/etc work if I don't wire in the brake wire connections or use this thing: PAC-TR7

Thanks,

Don

Without the Parking Brake and Foot Brake connected you will not be able to watch videos on you ipod/iphone. You will still be able to listen to your mp3's though. But inorder to set the clock and all the other settings you need them connected. I installed the PAC-TR7 and it was really easy and preprogramed for the alpine. Works great. With out it you can not set the clock, or other settings only the audio settings.

Installed mine today, definitely doesn't support Zune through the USB (sux). Need to play more with it to try and get it to work through the audio-in, but them's the breaks.

Installation wasn't hard in my 2005 Forester - trip down to Car Toys to buy a wiring harness ($20), solder all the matching wires, leave the ones that don't match hanging loose (but insulated so as not to touch random sparky things). Made sure to wire the ground. Car starts fine, radio works, input from Zune works. Had to discard faceplate and mount kit that came with the unit in favour of the one in the car.

Removing the factory stereo was almost simple, following instructions at http://www.computerizedmachining.com/remove-stereo-2004-Subaru-Forester.html - but since the pictures show an automatic, I had to modify a litte. Unscrew the head of the gear stick, and that will come off with the leather shroud and the lower panel all as one unit. Then it's just like they show in the pictures. Now I just need to figure out how to wire it properly to the brakes.

Other interesting notes - the sales guy at the CarToys said that he'd had several people come in that week for wiring harnesses, asked me the model of the stereo. Apparently they'd all got that model, and had bought it from "some online store". Wanted to know how much I paid, and seemed impressed at the price. Wanted to know where I got it. Being a dutiful Amazon employee, I let him know it was from Woot.

I installed mine Saturday and I have to say that I am not as impressed as I expected to be. The radio stations don't seem to come in as strong as they did on my stock stereo. Then I realized that this doesn't support RBDS. That sucks. First aftermarket stereo I have bought in over 10 years and I just assumed that based on how new it was and the price, it would support it. I also assumed that with the nice screen it had, it would have a lot of nice visuals to show it off. So far it looks like it just supports adding some custom wallpapers, nothing animated, no visual EQ or anything. The instructions suck and finding information on the website is a pain. I expected more. I am impressed with the iPod controls but on my generic mp3 player only some of the album art displays. I guess I need to compare the specs of the ones that work to the ones that don't. Also on the generic player it shows the filename and the path instead of song title, album, etc. This may be a setting I can adjust but I am not sure why that wouldn't be the default. The controls are completely unintuitive in my opinion as well. My first aftermarket car stereo was an Alpine back in 1984 and I loved it. After 25 years I guess I just expected a lot more from the company I fell in love with way back when. I am scared to buy the HD unit with all the bad things I have read about its reception. I may go with the satellite module instead.

K. You have to install the dongle with all the RCA sockets hanging off the back of it if you want to get the Zune to feed the input. I happened to have an audio jack to 2xRCA plugs handy, so that's what I connected it with, and it just plain works.

[Still wish I could get it to work with the USB connections, so that I'm getting a purer (and louder) sound, but hey... not everyone loves the Zune and hates the fruit as much as I do. I understand.]

Now, all that's remaining is for me to find plugs B97 and B98 in my 2005 Forester, so that I can wire the yellow & black, and yellow & blue cables to the brakes (foot and hand) so that the system will let me set the bleedin' clock. Safety feature? Safety my arse, I've already lost a half pint of blood in scratches and scrapes trying to reach inside this car.

Any suggestions gratefully received. I'll post back if/when I figure it out.

All in all, very happy with this purchase. One major exception - it doesn't find _any_ AM stations (even with manual tuning), and it seems a bit dainty at finding FM stations. Sometimes I have to manual tune. Perhaps I missed a wire.

I installed the PAC TR7 bypass module last night. The instructions for programing it are kind of confusing but it works great. Finally set the clock and calendar. I will be good to go as soon as I get the satelite module replaced again....

I installed mine in my 2006 GMC Canyon and I'm loving it so far.

I started out with just the METRA GMRC-02 wire harness, antenna adapter and generic install kit. I soldered all the connections and used heat shrink tubing to protect them. I didn't connect the brake wires because I wasn't really worried about watching videos while I drive.

Once I got everything hooked up I was really confused about why I couldn't change the time and date. Turns out watching videos isn't the only thing that get's blocked when those brake wires aren't connected. So I went ahead and ordered the PAC-7 and once I got it added to the wire harness, all seemed well.

I then tried to watch some videos and I was getting a black display. Turns out I needed that 1/8" cable I had left out thinking it was for auxiliary input. It's actually the video feed.

At any rate, I'm happy with the head unit and now I'm just keeping an eye out for a good price on the KCE-400BT and the TUA-T550HD. Has anyone hooked up the HD radio module? How is it?

The IXA-w404 does not guarentee support for all phones/mp3 players.

The IXA-w404 only guarentees up to 8gb flash drives."

Yeah, I missed a wire. Blue wire goes to blue wire, for power-assisted antenna. Next, a trip to Radioshack for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMSdRU6Yv2U - parts are http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062527 and some wire.

video (and clock/calendar change) requires that you wire up the brakes, and read the instructions (basically, foot brake down, parking brake up; parking brake down; parking brake up; foot brake up). Or get a PAC-TR7 device for $40, or a switch set for $4 and wire it yourself.

In the interests of safety, I _want_ to wire to the brakes, but can't find the B97 and B98 plugs in the bulkhead wiring harness on my Subaru Forester, where those wires exist. So, instead, I will be wiring the switch.

alunj

quality posts: 5 Private Messages alunj

Wired up the switch set tonight - the two switches connect (or disconnect) yellow/black to red, and yellow/blue to black.

Power the car on, wait for the stereo to come online, press the setup button for two seconds, and you'll see that it's only offering audio setup.

Toggle the two switches more or less randomly - it's late, so I'm a little fuzzy on the sequence that works - and at some point it'll magically add other items to the display. Now you can set the calendar and clock, and watch videos.

But don't do this while driving. Soldering requires both hands and careful attention to detail.

I foolishly rolled the dice on the install card side deal on Newegg that was posted with this stereo. When I finally got an appointment scheduled, the installer (Al & Ed's in Marina Del Rey, CA) tried to upcharge me on parts, stating that the Deluxe Install Card didn't cover a wiring harness or dash kit, even though the Newegg site specifically states that it does (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168421001IN). He said that the card only covered $60 worth of labor (I paid $85 for the stupid card)!

I was able to cancel the card and request a refund from Newegg (which is hopefully processing now). I wish Woot could scrub their deals so that none of this shadiness would happen.

Anyone in West LA want to make a few bucks installing a stereo?

Been toying with the 400bt for a while and found the following issues I'd like to share

Tried two different 400bt firmware 200 and 311 with iphone 3gs

1. FW311 - phone does not connect automatically when car starts but needs to initial dialing first from handset

2. FW200 - phone does connect everytime but loses the play and pause function under BT Radio.

3. FW311 - failed to connect on Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones

Anyone seeing the same things?
What firmware are you running with what phone?

Thanks

It's the cable that looks like a head phone extender. It plugs into the jack on the back of the head unit marked IPOD Video and the other end goes into the pig tail in the ipod plug.

I've noticed when I play video, I will also need to start the select the video on the ipod/iphone as well. Then the video will show on screen. Hope this helps.

Possibly the final post here from me. How to get it to work with a Zune for video.

The Zune (& Zune HD) does not output video through the audio jack. [Microsoft being cheap] To get video through a four-way jack plug, you have to use the Zune AV Dock. As luck would have it, this is powered from a USB connector, and provides output exactly as the stereo wants it. Choice! Only downside is that you then have to control the Zune through the AV Dock's remote. But you weren't planning on driving while using this for video, were you?

Side benefit - the Zune keeps itself charged while in the AV dock.

With the PAC TR-7 installed (marine use only, promise!) for a mere $20 instead of the original $40, I think I'm happy. The only thing that would be better is to add the Bluetooth adapter, but that's a tad spendy.
