Although I should not be buying anything since I'm out of a job in a few weeks I could not pass this up, I hope I don't get a lemon, I think it will be a step up from the MS one that comes with the Pro bundle. I just hope its not too tight either, I read a few complains on it being to tight.

In for 1!

if the keyboard has input for a headset end this size, then yes.

So the answer is yes, yes it does.

So... Could I use this in my standard PC mic port?
I don't really know all the details on sizing and such

For everyone who is wondering about using this with any other devices, or with a PC, you may end up having to build a custom adapter for it.

If you look at the picture of the cord, you'll notice that the end that plugs into the controller is a 2.5mm 3 position plug. The end that connects to the headset is a 3.5mm 4 position plug.

What does this all mean? A lot of trial and error unless someone manages to locate a pin-out diagram that shows what signal is in what position on the plugs.

If I had to guess, I'd say that on the 2.5mm plug the signals are (going tip to wire):

-Left Audio
-Mic
-Ground

My guess on the 3.5mm plug is that the signals are:

-Left Audio
-Not Used or Ground
-Mic
-Ground

That's just a guess though. I'd need a multimeter and the cord to figure out what the exact signal path is.

Once you know the signal path, building an adapter for a PC is easy. All you need is a little wire and some 3.5mm plugs from Radio Shack.

If you take a second to clickity-clack through the pictures...you can see the (2.5mm) cable with your own eyes.

There's a close up of the [XBox] 360 adapter too.
(The pictures all have descriptions below 'em too, just in case you forget what you're looking at)

In for one.

I read a few of the reviews, and the biggest complaints besides defective ones seems to be pressure on the head. Well, I wore a small hat back in high school when I was in band. So I assume that won't affect me (unless your skull grows drastically with age, which, as a Biology major, I can confirm it doesn't).

Besides, I've bought swag at cons that costs more than the $9 this costs with shipping.

strifewind wrote:Unless it comes with interchangeable jacks, this one is a size down from the standard 2.5mm audio jacks and is therefore incompatible.

It seems that the '360 adapter' is the gray bit you plug into the bottom of the controller, and the headset's jack plugs into that.

He's replying to a post asking about the jack size. It's important information regarding this thing's compatibility with people who want to use it for more than just gaming. Things like using it as a cell phone headset, a computer headset, etc.

Obviously it's going to work with the 360 controller it's being marketed for.

Here's a fun fact:

Those comms headsets you see all the football coaches wearing, the ones with the big Motorola logo across the boom, haven't a single strand of copper or piece of silicon from Motorola.

The headsets are made by (and purchased from) Telex, and Motorola pays for the right to put their logo on the mic boom.

SON OF A... I just bought this from buy.com for $9.99. It's great!! The mic is fully adjustable to ANY position. The packaging I'm sure is the same, it comes in 3 plastic bags (the adapter, the cable, and a larger bag for all three). The headset is sturdy, it looks cool, and it has audio controls on the adapter.

It doesn't look like it. My RB2 bundle came with a little extension piece because the original 360 headset was only made to fit the standard controller. This also means that it probably won't work with the messenger pad without the little extension piece.

EDIT: Can anyone find a picture of the plug side of this piece to confirm my suspicion?

FrozenShade wrote:I bought this for my younger brother a year ago. The connection to the controller is a bit finicky...just doesn't seem to fit perfect like the MS brand headsets. Must have been the one I bought but the strength of the cable seemed to have worn out after only 3 months of use. Had to pinch it a certain way to have it work correctly.

It is comfortable and the sound quality is pretty good. I hear Turtle Beach is better but I haven't tried them.

I'd say it's a good headset for the price...just be careful when not in use.

Turtle Beach headsets are MUCH better than this. This headset cannot even compare to the sound quality Turtle Beach's have. But if you want a cheap headset to use then get this one.

dglooze wrote:if the keyboard has input for a headset end this size, then yes.

So the answer is yes, yes it does.

Are you sure? It isn't the size of the jack that's the issue. The original headset 360 doesn't work with the chat pad because the contours don't match. Also, the original headset has 2 plastic pieces next to the male jack that fit into slots on the controller. (for a firm fit, I guess) The chat pad doesn't have these slots, so it won't work without an extension/adapter.
The question is whether THIS headset has the same type of connection as the original 360 headset. It looks like it's made to fit the curve of the controller only (not chat pad or rock band controllers), but there isn't a picture to verify this.

EDIT: A reviewer at Amazon says: "Yes, this mic is compatible with the chatpad, you just can't use the volume adapter that comes with it but no biggie." http://www.amazon.com/review/R3696HHVOIILX0/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm

Not being able to use volume AND mute control is a "biggie" in my opinion. I think it's safe to say that this headset is not compatible with the chat pad or Rock Band controllers unless you don't care about the ability to adjust the volume or mute the mic.
