That's $16 shipped (everyday regular price)... as opppose to $20+$5 = $25.

What's happening with woot.com these days?!

That's not even the same product.

I'm looking to attach this to my router and then fill the attached external drive with videos to be viewed on my PS3.

My PS3 is connected by ethernet to the same router. Will this be fast enough to play the videos right from the external drive without stuttering?

On the PS3, will I have to go to a web site to access the drive content, or will it appear in the videos section like an attached USB drive?

(I'm looking for a better solution than the wireless video streaming I do right now from my PC to my PS3)

If you don't have a freeagent drive, this $2 cable (or this plug) will convert the dock connector into a usable USB port.

Please read, people. Several posters have already answered this question.

OD=Office Depot

Also, one poster indicated that it was not the dockstar, but the plain dock that OD had for $1.

So, my existing 1TB Free Agent drive will plug right into this little guy? Cool. Even if I have to use the USB connection this seems like a no-brainer as I constantly need images or other files for one project when I am at another site.

thanks Woot

mvsopen wrote:Works well, but read the PogoPlug site's privacy statement. Even though your data is encrypted to you via SSL, it still has to go through their servers to reach you - You have to log on to the Pogoplug website in order to access your drive's data. This may be fine for pictures and music, but would you really want your financial data going through a third-party server?

Simple solution(s) don't connect from the outside or use a proxy of your own (port forwarding, ftp, web server, etc).

That's the one people got at OD (Office Depot) for $1...NOT the same item here at Woot as already stated.

Oooops...someone already beat me to it.

Regarding the PS3/Xbox question, a couple of posts on this forum say that the March firmware update (for Dockstar as well as the Pogoplug device) enabled streaming from the consoles.

Anyone know if you could plug a flash drive into one of these?

Can I put two of these devices on a single network?

Is each "FreeAgent DockStar" assigned a unique IP address? If so, is this address hardcoded or obtained via DHCP?

Ok, so in for 2...

This probably means pogoplug will go under in about 6 months and Seagate will change the formfactor for their hard drives...

The internet "sees" the IP address of your router. The Dockstar is a assigned a code based on its MAC address, so it's unique. That should mean that you can use 2 of them. Of course, you'll have to register them separately.

@fliny00 -- Dude, that's just a USB dock for Seagate FreeAgent drives. No network connectivity, no pogoplug. Take a close look at the product photos again.

I'll let you know yesterday.

edit: I hope you didn't mind my wise-cracking answer. I'm assuming that you're asking if you can back up live from one computer onto a remote drive. Since the drive will be recognized as a regular networked drive, I don't see why not. Of course, if your internet connection is glitchy, or the server bounces, you could get a failure to write, but the software should just try again.

Chances are good that as soon as the Woot is over the Egg price will go up.

Does the Newegg one also include the unlimited subscription to *everything*? I'm considering getting 5 of these puppies total since I also have a Newegg gift card.

If you haven't figured it out,
To attempt to change an order-in-progress, you should e-mail:

or fill out the form by clicking the "Write Us" tab.

Make sure your user name, order number and any relevant info is included in your message.

RE: Office Depot $1 special, two months ago

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/expired-deals/997902/

Browsing the thread, it seems it was very YMMV. But check the image in the first post. Some were really getting the Full Monty ethernet/embedded CPU/NAS dock for $1. I personally think OD got mixed up and mistakenly put the Fully Monty version on sale instead of the Plain Jane version.

--

Regardless of what happened (probably by mistake ~2 months ago), today's Woot is still a good deal. Especially considering what the hardware is capable of and how hackable it is.

With Newegg you'll have to pay money for the Pogo service after one year.

Maybe you should look at the Newegg prod description-no usb on the Newegg one so you can't network share a basic usb drive like you can on the woot one.
