This isn't great for tall people - you'll hang to where your shins hit the ground, unless you have very tall doors.

Yes. I bought mine about 3 years ago, and it's great! My husband likes to use it for a minute every time he passes that doorway.:-).-

Maybe if you can't do any. Try using a chair when starting out.

scott0210 wrote:"Pullup, Situp, Pushup, Dip Bar with Ab Straps"

How are you supposed to do Dips with this thing?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vg4dkjv8HY/

That's an overall good review video. The dips start at about the 3:11 mark. You can't go the full range of motion because of your butt hitting the floor(you could also try laying your body out more so you could do a lengthier range of motion.) But the guy is somewhat halfarsing it by bending his knees. The more you bend your knees the easier it becomes, so keep your legs straight. Or if you really want, you could buy the 2nd product he uses.

P.S. I'm hoping the straps aren't $8 mail-in rebates like the one in this video.

I've had one for a couple months. Works really well. I primarily use it for pullups and with the ab straps but have used it for dips as well. I did notice it was wearing on the front of the door jam, but adding a little padding underneath (like an old pair of socks, not that I've used those or anything...) seems to help. I use it in a narrow closet doorway, where the wide grips are hard to access, but if you use it in a wider doorway, the outer portion of the bar will catch the door frame so that you can access those grips. I'm 6'4" so I have to bend my legs, but my height hasn't stopped it from being a really effective workout.

I have the Gold Gym variety of this contraption, but the straps pinch my arms somethin' fierce. Are the straps that come with this very comfortable?

I also have the Gold's Gym version of this which also came with the rotating push-up handles, which I think are kind of a joke. The straps aren't so bad but I only weigh about 150 lbs. I'm going to return my Gold's Gym version at Sam's Club thanks to their great return policy and purchase this one for $30 less.

Due to being hit by a car while on my motorcycle, I've got a plate in my right shoulder and don't have 100% range of motion (more like 80%).

Will I be able to use this without the ability of my arm going straight up?

I'm not trying to insult anyone here but after reading some of the comments about weight, I want to throw out a reminder. Find a bar at a jungle gym or something and see if you can do at least 3 pull ups. If you can't do a pullup, this device won't help you because you won't be able to use it and it will just gather dust in your closet. Remember, paying less for something you'll never use is still a waste of money.

I'm 6'3" and it works fine for me in a standard 6'8" tall doorway. I think for this NOT to work, you'd have to have doorways so short that you are constantly hitting your head, in which case you should probably fix that issue first.

This shouldn't apply to just the people talking about weight. That stereotyping isn't fair. There are quite a few very thin people I know that can't do pull-ups either...

bodang wrote:This device appears to depend on the structural integrity of the door moulding.

Seems like it would at first glance, but that's not exactly what happens. It's sort of hard to describe.

The initial weight of the unit is supported by the moulding.

The handholds are at an angle relative to where the bar is that goes atop the moulding. What happens is that the long bars end up pressed against the door frame as you weight pulls down. You weight ends up clamping the unit onto the door, with a lot of the force (and weight) being applied through the long bars that brace against the door frame.

DO NOT "jerk" with this unit, as it would momentarily take your weight off and you'd lose the clamping force.

I live in an apartment, and my moldings are pretty cheap, but this thing holds me and a couple of chubby--above 200 pounds-- friends that have come and tried it.

adamhos

I have one, it works great. It doesn't pull down on your door moldings, so don't worry about that. The only thing it does to that is rest on it, like 2 lbs of weight. When you actually use it, it braces against the wall.

As a bonus, it also works pretty well for doing pushups.
