Do these have the bad luck mojo removed from opening umbrellas indoors?

I'm pretty sure the point of the wind resistance is gusts, not continuous speeds.

I kinda want one, but I haven't YET seen a test with... RAIN! isn't that the point of an umbrella?

or maybe sun.

if they could show what area under the umbrella is protected from either of these, that would be a good test too.

I get that it's wind resistant, but at 80mph, the rain goes SIDEWAYS! and an umbrella wouldn't help

someone already posted the youtube video, but i think it's worth posting again. that is a really cool umbrella you that stands up to tremendous wind. the video shows it working on a motorcycle and while skiing, as well as high wind tests. way cool.

"So many junk," to quote an obscure cultural reference.

Now that you're about to be owned by a Seattle company you should be aware that the only people who carry umbrellas in Seattle are tourists and transplanted Californians. Natives use Gore-Tex.

In any case, I won't buy without Night Ghost's seal of approval.

I think the SENZ Storm Umbrellas would make MUCH better bat wings than these:

No, I am not going to buy one, but I am so glad that Woot bought these things, posted it, and maybe make a few bucks on them. If for no other reason, the comments alone on this woot are worth taking the time to see what is going on here.

If nothing else, anyone who produces a remake of "Singin in the Rain" now has a groovy new umbrella for the new dance steps.

This umbrella doesn't appear to be vented. Is that the case? Kind of a necessity here in the Pacific Northwest, seeing as how aside from 9 months of rain, we get strong wind gusts.

I could forsee this umbrella being quite the nuisance for some areas. In Vancouver, Canada, particularly UBC, the wind doesn't blow straight at you... it kind of curls in gusts.

Also, wouldn't the enormity of the lip on the umbrella be annoying in large crowds of people? I think so!

Pretty cool umbrella - check out this video on the highlights of it....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFzOwq5PldQ - shows it in a wind tunnel over 130 km/h wind... pretty amazing.

jeffiekins wrote:So, which direction do you point it?

I'm guessing you put the "blunt" end into the wind. It's shaped kinda like the aerodynamic helmets some wear in the olympics, and they (like airplane wings) have the "blunt" end in front, and the "sharp" end at the back.

It looks like you hold it in front of you with the long "tail" going over and behind you. That's probably great if you're walking into the wind.

Has anyone used one of these? Do you have to keep spinning it around when the wind shifts?

The "tail" is always behind you. I have the folding model but living in NYC, the wind has never been strong enough to give it a real test. I will say that it's a good sturdy umbrella. It's supposed to be self-adjusting; there is no need to spin it around.

Breex243 wrote:Are these better than Gustbusters? Although the Gustbusters let out a portion of airflow with their vents and elastics (as opposed to simple copycat "canopy" umbrellas), there's a decent amount of force that you have to fight against. Then again, in high winds, you'll be getting soaked, whether or not your umbrella breaks.

If you have a serious gust problem or a rogue poltergust, nothing compares to the gustbusters, they will solve your gust problems guaranteed!
