From the Manufacturer's Web site:

"Operates as normal headphones when ANC function is turned off, or if batteries run out"

I ordered a pair! I just cannot afford the $300 Bose ones now.

The brand for deluded, pretencious posers who think they are buying someting good because it cost so much and once had a great name in audio like back in the 80s!!! I feel so sorry for those who find themselves bragging about their Bose products.

Before you trash everything that Bose makes, have you actually USED a pair of Bose NC headphones on a plane trip? I have. They are probably the one thing Bose makes that really are the best in the business. Yes, they are high-priced as is everything Bose sells, but if there is anything remotely worth Bose's price, it is their Quiet Comfort headphones.

I bought these the last time they were up on Woot, and I have been very very happy with them. Great sound, great carrying case, great price - I'm thinking of getting another set for when I accidentally leave my current set on a plane (it's just bound to happen!).

Highly recommended.

These would be great for shooting, except that at the gun store, noise cancelling earphones cost less than fifty bucks. Plus, I'm not trying to drown you out...just the larger caliber guns.

I bought these the last time they were on woot.

I'm listening to to them as I type this. They rock your socks.

Sometimes however there is a small noise when sound is really low or inaudible that can be annoying, but as long as you have music playing you don't notice it.

Great sound though, super nice bass for headphones. And the noise canceling is fantastic. I took them on an airplane, i was sitting on the aisle with the engine and I turned the noise canceling on...wow what a difference. It knocked out almost everything...only a small bit of sound was left to be heard and i'm sure you all know how loud it is on an airplane...

Highly recommended!

Yes i did and took them right back and bought the audio technica instead. BOSE headphones are no way in any form the best in the business, except for extracting a premium price for a has been brand name from gullible people . Again you have my condolences. I am a professional audiophile. On behalf of BOSE, we thank you for your money and thank you for keeping us in business. :-)

I've got a pair of these from somewhere else. I wear them when I program to block out annoying people at work. They sound nice, and are about as comfortable as any other pair but the top of them is big and flat giving you a terrible case of headphone hair after a few hours of wearing them.

I like the simple cords or behind the ear designs lately.

Woulda been nice to know about these before I dropped 60 bucks on a pair of Sony's that RadioShack had on clearance, marked down from 100. That being said the Sony's are a lot smaller and sound great. Although they SUCK with the cancellation turned off.

for those of you having audio problems with your able planet headphones contact able planet and get them swapped out via your warranty. You might have a defective unit. All consumer electronics have issues and that's why you have product warranties.

For those of you that are having low volume issues you might want to try this:

http://boosteroo.com/

Works wonders with ipods, portable dvd players, laptops, etc. Super small and light. If you have a Fry's in your area you can swing by and take a look, i got mine their. Of course you can spend way more then $29.99 but for the money it does a great job.

Bose are overrated. I got these last time woot sold them and I actually prefer them to the Bose NC headphones my wife gave a couple years back. I sat right next to the engine on a recent plane trip and the nc function on the Ables were superb. Mine have no buzzing whatsoever. I do wish the volume could be louder at times in nc mode. The bass is good but not impressive.

My old crappy Philips SHS3910 headphones are starting to tear at the ear cushions. Probably cause I've been using them for 3+ years... I was also looking at the Woot Off trying to find some good headphones. The Woot Off may be over, but I guess it's after the Woot Off where I find just what I need. Finally a Woot purchase I can justify.

In for one.

These are great. Picked these up from the previous woot, and I've been very happy with the quality. Cancels out most continuous sounds pretty well, such as fans, engine noise, etc. The case is cool, too.

I bought these last time around - and I must say I do love them... but I do have a few minor problems with them...

My biggest complaint has more to do with my oversized head (imagine bobble head proportions). After wearing them for long flights my ears hurt no matter which way I wear them... but I've decided I can't fly without them, and sometimes I find myself using them at work and at home. It has been getting better, not sure if the headphones are getting used to my fat head, or if my fat head is (or more specifically my ears are) getting used to the force placed upon them.

My second complaint is sometimes when I'm using the noise canceling feature, it doesn't handle some lower frequencies very well (when attempting to cancel them) and it'll make a really strange static noise. Not sure if I just got a bunk pair or not... but I'm going to buy a second pair for backup, because I love them so much.

I'd say 8/10 in my book with +2 for price... so 10/10.

Also, to all those complaining about the case being too big to carry on or the size of the headphones in general... have you ever taken another pair of noise canceling headphones on a plane? I've yet to see a pair that didn't come in a gigantic case and take up a ton of room. Last I looked they took up just a little bit more room than any Bose product for a fraction of the price.

HOW DO THESE COMPARE TO THE ULTIMATE EARS TripleFi 10vi as far as sound quality goes? The UE TripleFi is earbuds, but the sound quality is second-to-none (should be, they retail for nearly $500), but I'm looking for a pair of cans. Thanks!

I bought these a month ago, believe they were $10 more and they were still a good deal then. No complaints works good. I haven't noticed any pops or noise with mine. Those who complain about the size of the case - leave the case at home, but if you're committed to external headphones, these are much larger than ear buds (and work much better). There was enough said about the comparison to the Bose qc-15.

2. I have recently been diagnosed with "near-moderate" hearling loss in both ears....and have trouble hearing people conversing when there is a lot of background noise.

4. Would these earphones be helpful to me? Or would they progress the deterioration in my hearing?

Yes! I wear in-the-ear hearing aids for moderate hearing loss and LOVE these. I was afraid having something cupped over my ears would cause feedback, but that isn't the case. Wearing these I can clearly hear song lyrics for the first time in my life. Can hear a lot of other things I didn't know were in music--same chimes, etc. I'd say go for it!

I bought these in a previous woot and really enjoy them so far. You REALLY can't beat them for the price, especially considering the quality of sound and manufacturing. Keep in mind though that noise canceling and sound isolating are different. These work wonderfully for constant white noise (plane, train, car, computer fans) but won't drown out noisy co-workers babbling about the newest Real Housewives of DC episode. For that you'll need a shotgun.

I am in for one based upon the detachable cord. This is a feature I must have on account of my 2 cats. To date I have owned two other pairs of noise canceling headphones. In the evening I will work on my laptop while my wife watches TV. To avoid bothering her I will wear headphones. To avoid being bothered by the ambient strains of "America's Got Talent" I prefer noise canceling phones. When we retire and turn off the light my laptop and phones go on the floor. Then the cats go to town on the headphone cable. Actually, it's probably just Natasha going to town, Boris is not nearly as neurotic as she. And yes we do feed our cats so this is not from hunger. They just love to chew through headphone cables. No other cords or cables in the house strike their fancy. Just my headphones.

So now I can remove the cord or even replace it if need be. Sorry cats!

These look a lot like the Jabra noise-canceling headphones they sold a year or two ago. The case is only slightly different, the accessories are the same. Case style is identical.

I have the Jabra model and love it. The noise canceling works great on regular noises like motor humming, jets flying overhead, HVAC air flow noise, etc., but not for irregular noise like people. But it's still a good headphone, and for most noise, it works great. When you turn on the noise cancel function, it increases the bass, too. If you don't like that and want a flatter response, you won't want these. I haven't compared this function with other noise canceling phones so I don't know if this is one trade-off that you get with noise canceling or not.

But I have heard the Bose phones and would buy these over the Bose.

As a musician I think these have FAR superior sound reproduction than the BOSE. I listened to a lot of pairs before purchasing these last June and I've been very pleased. The only headphones (noise canceling) I would recommend over Able Planet are Dr. Dre BEATS (Which have AMAZING sound reproduction and AMAZING noise cancelling... they're just $300) and Sennheiser (Also AMAZING, just expensive!).

Able Planet customer service is fantastic also... A few years ago I bought a pair of the cheaper version of these at an airport once (for $100... I was desperate for decent phones). They were the floor model and had been worn out. When I called Able Planet they said they would provide me with a new pair free of charge, even without my receipt or box! I had them until I upgraded to these... after trying BOSE, SONY and PHILIPS.

The noise cancellation works great on a plane for engine noise, etc; but not so much for the office rabble rousing

I bought a set from this company over a year ago on woot. They worked well for the price. Recently the plastic hinge on the left headphone cracked and then broke. This was caused by repeated use. I have sent it to Able Planet to see if they will fix/replace it.
