I've been around and programed lots of uni remotes in my professional career and there is one thing that I can say.

HARMONY. There is NO substitute.

Even the old models are @wesome (and cheap on ebay/amazon). I have a ton of electronic devices and the Harmony H628 (12 device) remote functions perfectly.

Any Logitech Harmony will work a ROKU box (as well as the WD TV series). They all use the same database, and both are in that database, so even the cheapest Harmony will control them.

My older Harmony 676 (976? 679? Dunno...) ran both right out of the box fully.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THESE REMOTES HAVE SEQUENCE PROGRAMMING ABILITY? PRESS ONE BUTTON TO TURN ON/OFF SPECIFIC PROGRAMMED EQUIPMENT INSTEAD OF HAVING TO TURN EACH PIECE OF EQUIPMENT OFF INDIVIDUALLY?

ANYONE KNOW, COULD NOT FIND ANY INFO CONCERNING THIS IN USER MANUAL.

THANKS.

I called Philips customer support and asked about compatibility. The rep told me that Philips can't guarantee that this low-end remote will work with any of these devices, but that they might (and said to try the code for that brand name listed under DVD, which someone here already suggested). She said the same goes for media players.

At this price, you can decide whether you want to roll the dice.

It has an input button that lets you switch between sources. There's a good chance that will work, but the Philips customer service rep told me they "can't guarantee that will all TV's"

Yes - there are codes for for about 30 brands of digital-to-analog converters.

Sure, but while a Harmony may be the perfect solution to your needs, different users have different perspectives. My own experience was very different. I used to own a Harmony - couldn't stand the PC/web interface requirement and the inflexibility. Sure, you can control anything with it, from your TV to your blender, but you can only control it the "Logitech" way. Their online database had never heard of my TV brand, and using the "learn" feature to overcome that was a pain since you had to have the old remote, the Harmony, a PC, a cable, their program and a connection to their slow slow slow website.

To be honest, I was happy when it died and we went back to juggling 3 remotes for 3 devices. I picked up a cheap Sony remote for $20 that included a normal learning capability, and have been able to do more with it than we did with the Harmony.

Harmony's are well-liked, but it pretty much stunk in our household. We strongly prefer a universal remote that you can just point your old remote at so that it can learn the function.

To each his own.

As for this auction, I'm in for 2 (4). With my wife and kid losing remotes under chairs, in couch cushions, and wandering off with them in hand, I want a simple-to-use universal learning remote that will work with all of our hardware even if there's not a pre-programmed code in the remote's firmware (or in an online database). Simple, cheap, flexible, and with on-the-fly reprogrammability... this fits a niche that our household needs filled.

LAST FIVE WOOTS:
04/12/13 Eye-Fi Mobile 8GB Wireless Memory Card - $35
03/01/13 Powerbag 3000mAh Charging Bag - $40
02/21/13 Canon Wireless AIO Printer - $50
02/21/13 3M HD Camcorder Projector - $80
11/10/12 Alaratec Charge-Glo 30-pin Sync Cable (x3) - $5 ea

The learning function should make it work, regardless. And Panasonic Bluray players use the same codeset as their DVD players, so those should work with a code, for one example.

I just told my fiance over the weekend if woot had a universal remote that I'd jump on it bc I'm sick of having to use three remotes to play a freakin DVD. My biggest question was if this remote could change the source. Thanks for this answer....I think at this price I'm gonna jump on it and hope at the very least I can get by with two remotes rather than three

It's a learning remote, so even if it doesn't have codes for a specific device you should be able to manually assign functions to it. Some IR signals it has trouble learning, but the majority of devices made in the last 20 years it can learn from.

Would this work on a really old TV? Like 15 years old? We have an old Panasonic clunker and I don't know if these newfangled things would work with it. But our old one has dog teeth marks all over it.

I believe that someone said it can learn some functions for the Roku. The problem is that the Roku, unlike a Blu-Ray player, has functions that are completely different from those of a simpler DVD player. Many involve drilling down several pages into the menu. So there is only so much you can do without a remote that's designed to work with your media player.

They have (I believe) a 'learning' system that you can put 2 remotes together and press a button on one remote and it 'learns' it on the other at the specified button. I have a couple older Phillips universal remotes and it allowed me to customize the pre-programming with my original remote. Works great!

One question I have though, with the ones that I have there is a delay when pressing the button to whatever unit I try to control. Do these have this type of delay as well? Does anyone know?

Well, 15 years old means from 1995, and Philips claims this works will all AV devices since 1990. But then again, a Philips customer service rep said they can't guarantee it works will any specific device.

So the answer is "probably."

Sorry - I don't know the answer to your question.

However, I wanted to clarify 2 things. One, the original poster asked if this remote works with Tivos, and as someone else already pointed out, it does (i.e. it's pre-programmed for them).

Two, if you have another universal remote, but don't have the original remotes for you devices, you may be in trouble. According to the manual, this remote can only have codes for one device type stored under a mode button. Since that might not be true with other remotes, you can run into problems when trying to learn from them.

I have an old version of these, similar to the one here also from Philips. It has worked very well for me, only having difficulty learning a few odd buttons here and there, usually getting it after a several tries. I'm in for one set of these due to the added buttons such as the four colored buttons that will allow for easy assignment of Blu Ray remote buttons etc. If this works as well as my old one, I'll be very happy.

According to this review, that language in the manual may be incorrect. I'm certainly hoping so, because this is a HUGE incentive (for me anyway) to buy this remote if this reviewer is correct. I think that limitation may only apply to the TV device mode button, or possibly not exist at all despite the language in the manual. http://www1.epinions.com/review/Philips_SRU5106_Remote_Control/content_492144135812

Reviewer said, "Finally, despite what the manual says, the remote can learn commands from different devices under one device mode - for instance I use volume control for both my TV and my receiver, so I have stored the receiver's volume control under the TV mode so I can control either without switching modes."

EDIT: The Woot description also confirms this reviewer's comments. At the bottom of the description it says, "You can store any kind of code under any mode, except for TV (ex. you can store a DVR code under the DVR or CBL button, but you can only story TV code under the TV button)"

I think the standard answer is the same for lots of devices:

Philips customer service rep won't guarantee it works with your specific device, but...

it probably will, since even if it's not pre-programmed, you can use the learn function. The degree of functionality will depend on how many non-standard features a device has.
