Says it works with anything after 1990, so 15 years should be fine. 25 years, maybe not.

I believe this is the site for the manual. Codes are in the FAQ on the lower left.

Why, I Woot fastidiously from down yonder on the Gulf Coast. We do not go out wooting as much because we are up to our hineys in alligators and such.
But these remotes are tempting. Maybe after I've had my supper.

Would this work with my stereo receiver? I checked the manual but couldn't tell if it does just audio devices also.

The first statement in the manual says: "The remote control powers on in TV mode". Does this mean even after you've programmed it you're still going to have to keep changing modes?

The reason I ask is that this looks good to replace my elderly parents' remotes. The cable remote stopped working with the TV, so now they're using two remotes, but my mom keeps forgetting (she has Alzheimer's) to use the TV remote to just turn it on/off and the cable remote for everything else. So every time I come over, I have to "fix" the TV. If the mode on this remote still has to be changed all the time, it wouldn't work for them.

Does anybody here actually have it? I may still get it for myself, but the question is could my parents also use it?

Thanks!

It works with a slew of audio systems. Click the link near the bottom of the item page for "Online Code Search Tool," and choose "audio systems" as device type.

Even if your brand isn't listed, you may be able to program your remote codes.

I don't have this remote, but the same thing happened with my cable remote, and I just took it to our local cable center, where they replaced it for free.

No IR remote works with PS3.

You'll need a bluetooth remote of a USB dongle:

Control your PS3 with your universal remote

Can it work with XBOX Windows Media Center? That is, basically replace the "Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote?"

Just to clarify. The Remote Central link you posted is quite old. (unfortunately Dan doesn't date his entries) People may want to look at their update instead.

The PS3 can now be controlled by IR remotes, if you have purchased an adapter that allows for this. You do have to have the extra device to do this.

Seriously people, READ the other posts. This is a LEARNING remote. It can learn from virtually all other IR remote controls, and therefore control your device. The only ones where it will have difficulty is some esoteric hardware, like Bang & Olufsen stuff that at one time used a weird IR signal that most remotes can't actually output.

And of course, it won't operate any devices that are RF only. This may refer to some early Dish Network receivers, if anybody even has those anymore. Or to the PS3, if you haven't purchased an IR adapter for it. Or garage door openers.

Does anyone know if the keys are lighted so you can see the remote in a darkened room. I couldn't find any mention of it in the user's manual.

Well the problem with universal remotes is they'll control the TV but won't let you get into the programming of the tv. Brite, contrast, PIP, etc.

I very much doubt this is a jp1 remote.

I have the 7 device version of this remote. It looks exactly the same... except it has one more device option. I can't say enough about the remote. The learning function alone makes the this well worth the money. I have an older Hannspree LCD that was impossible to find universal remote codes for. Got this remote working with it in no time by using the learning mode. Any Time Warner users? This is very close in layout to the remotes that come with their boxes.

I do not know if this Phillips remote works well, but I do know that the Harmony remotes work fine with the U-Verse boxes. The main problem with them is that the box has a very finicky IR port, you really need to point the remote right at it, press numbers slowly (but not too slowly!), and expect some mistakes. It's the same with the factory remotes.

Since it has a code for comcast, does anyone know if it has a button for ON DEMAND?

Someone said that the Tivo remote is universal too, I wonder if ON DEMAND can work off that as well.

Thanks!

The "learn" button you see is what activates the light, you can see the light symbol in this pic of my remote.

It doesn't light up ALL the buttons though, just the source buttons, navigation wheel, volume and channel buttons. It's enough for you to see basic functions, but not really a feature I would buy the remote for. Plus, if you still need the buttons lit up to know where the keys are after using this for a solid month you've got bigger problems. This really is an easy and comfortable remote to use.

If I was ambitious enough to enter codes to program a remote I wouldn't need a remote. I'd get up and and push the buttons on my devices manually! I picked up a Logitech Harmony 688 remote and love how easy it is to program. They cost a lot more, but great deals can be found on eBay. I got mine for about $30. This all about personal integrity. I refuse to compromise my principles on a remote that requires thought or effort to program. I have put an enormous lack of effort and devoted countless hours of non-productivity into achieving this lifestyle.

Anyone remember the Woot for the Samsung BluRay player from a few months back? The one that can get Netflix on it...

I have tried 4 different universal remotes, and while I can get them to work with the basic DVD functions on the player, I can't get any of the 4 color buttons (yellow, blue, red, and green) that you need to select Netflix on that DVD player to work with the player.

Does anyone know if this remote will work for that?

No. it clearly reads from 1990 onwards. This means you need more captcha.
