It is way late by now, just checking if I am the only one.

I used to play Netflix with cables from my computer. But there were always some lines and buzzing from ground loop. The Roku is always hooked up (no cables across the room) and there are no lines.

My father-in-law is afraid of computers and his desktop setup is not comfortable to sit at for a long time. With the Roku, he can see his grandkids' Facebook photos in his living room.

Roku has been aggressive at adding new channels. See www.roku-channels.com for a list. Local radio stations, podcasts, Flickr, amalgamated content (e.g. Framechannel). YouTube was just added (unoffically) and works on about 75% of the content. Unfortunately, Hulu is going to be a paid channel.

My one complaint about it is that it wants to buffer quite a bit before it starts playing. For Netflix this is not an issue, because I know what I want to watch. But for the other channels (podcasts, etc.), you're better off browsing using a computer. Part of this may be my cable modem speed -- I only pay for 1.2Gb/s.

What a piece of crap. Mine didn't even last two months before it died.

You have a 90-day warranty through Roku. Please contact them for assistance asap before the warranty expires.

Should you encounter any problems along the way, feel free to contact service@woot.com for assistance.

I'm trying. The Roku people are not what I would call helpful. They asked me to do lots of things I already told them I did in the first email. They didn't bother to answer the second email I sent them.

Roku's phone tech support was as bad as the email. After going round and round with the tech who wanted me to plug up the broken Roku box, which still smells of smoke, he finally agreed it was broke. They wanted me to pay to ship it to them. Woot wants me to pay to ship it back to them for a refund, if I want to go that option.

That is better than the option they gave me, they said because I bought it at woot they did not offer a warranty. I asked them to provide where I could see that in writing, to which he did not have a response. Good concept, bad service equals never doing business with this company again.

For anyone else who's had to RMA this piece of junk, when Roku customer service asks for the "proof of purchase" to be faxed to them, what do they want? I've been going around with them on and off for two months and they still won't give me an RMA number. Really disappointed in this product and the company.

That would probably be your receipt. There a link in my signature that tells you how to find your receipt.

Out of curiosity, have you emailed service@woot.com to explain what you've done to try and resolve the situation? Sometimes they can intervene and assist.

By the way, the 1080p upgrade for the HD-XR was just released. It's free, go get it!

Linky: http://mashable.com/2010/12/14/roku-xr1080p/

Roku XR Gets Free Upgrade to 1080p

Roku XR owners can now increase their HD box’s resolution from 720p to 1080p with a quick, free download.

The update only works with the HD-XR ($80), allowing it to display the same resolution as its more-expensive brother, the $100 XD|S. Unfortunately for Roku SD and HD owners, their boxes won’t be the recipient of this unexpected holiday gift.

Not only does this update enhance the video resolution of the Roku XR; it also makes its Hulu videos start faster, and its navigation controls work faster, too. Best of all, owners don’t have to do a thing to get this update — it’ll upgrade itself automatically over the next few days.

Users who just can’t wait can download the update manually by going to the Roku XR’s Settings Menu, selecting “Player Info,” then “Check for Updates,” and the downloading and installation will begin.

Suddenly, the $80 Roku XR is looking like it could be an even more appealing gift for that vid kid on your list.

Mine downloaded the update already. The Settings Menu now has a 1080p/HDMI selection. Sweet.

This is the best Roku yet. I love the usb function as I play my Mp4 movie right to my TV without another expensive product.

Another useful nonreturnable and unregrettable woot purchase.

More than likely this is a user error and could probable be solved by a quick call to roku.

Either way, based on your comment alone: Woot doesn't suck, you do.

You bet your sweet bippy whencever is a word. Whence is a word. Of course you young whippersnappers wouldn't know that!
