From the sounds of it, you obviously need to get off your high horse, as well. From a consumer, AND business standpoint, I can understand that delays happen, as well as understand that customers can, and usually WILL become frustrated when a product hasn't shipped within it's typical shipment window.
The point is, customers would like to know when the product that they have actually PAID for, where the money has already transferred hands, will actually ship and/or arrive. I have dealt with my fair share of companies that would not notify you when there has been a delay on an item that you have ordered. At one point, thanks to such a poorly designed/operated business, I ordered a product from their website, only to not be notified that it had been backordered, and would not arrive for SIX MONTHS. They neglected to email me, let alone return my emails for an explanation of why my order had not shipped nor arrived. I even FOUGHT with them, to get a refund, which they would not approve. Finally, six months after the order had originally been placed, it shipped. Needless to say, I was extremely unhappy, and I thoroughly understand why these folks would be happy to know if their item shipped, or whether there has been a delay. It's just a common courtesy.
