I'm a little up in the air between the the Fuze and the Clip+ (I have 8gb versions of both.) The Fuze has great sound, but my personal opinion is that the Clip+ has superior sound to the Fuze plus it is lighter. Of course, the only thing I use them for is MP3's. I have 16gb microsdhc's in both and different music in both. I wouldn't get rid of either of them.

And for those interested, on Amazon they have Sandisk 16gb class 2 microsdhc's on sale for $28.76. The class 2's work fine on these.

Thanks! I saw that one as well and am considering taking the "risk" at $10. However, I'm always looking for an excuse to break something, so I might just go ahead and try wiring it into the stereo directly, as another poster suggested. I'm sure the sound quality will be significantly better.

I agree, I have a 4 and an 8gb unit and I'm getting another to share with family. These little buggers are durable--used the first for jogging and it's had a fair share of drops on pavement but it keeps on playing. This will be my second refurb.

I'm definitely interested in the hardline option. I'll look into it. Any chance you could point me in the right direction?

I'm not having any luck at first search.

Try searching for "fm modulators".

On Amazon I found many that were branded to work with specific devices - Harmon-Kardon Drive+play, Sirius Satellite models, iPods, etc.., but only one that seemed brand-agnostic - http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Audio-PFM2-Wired-Modulator/dp/B002QUZI36/ref=sr_1_47?s=STORE&ie=UTF8&qid=1285015238&sr=1-47. I suspect any would work fine for you, but don't know for sure.

In any case, you just need a device that will accept the audio input from the Sansa and then relay it to the antenna input of the car stereo. I'd expect any autosound installer in your area would be able to tell you exactly what you need, and they'd very likely have one to sell you.

EDIT: Found another model: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001QBG614/ref=asc_df_B001QBG6141251976?smid=A6U7LGCOJZZG2&linkCode=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B001QBG614&tag=cnet_mp-3082-20

I own Views, Fuzes, Clips and a couple of the E280 series, and the Fuze is the superior footprint. I'm waiting for a 32Gb Fuze, not wanting to add external RAM. Neither of the Views I own have been stable enough for my liking, and the Clip lacks the spin-select control on the front that the View and Fuze have. Lacking on the Fuze is a built-in belt Clip (surprise surprise)! as well as a non-proprietary USB port (both are featured on the Clip)! Even so, the Fuze wins. Now just need 32Gb !

I bought an 8gb Sansa clip on Woot that was a refurb that has made both my iPod's collect dust. I don't use them anymore.

I've been holding out for another clip on here, but I jumped in on the Fuze to have as a 2nd player that's simple to use.

The great thing about these players is the ease of use. Just drag and drop your music files and you're ready to go.

You can also easily create playlists in Windows Media Player and sync them to this if you want to although I'm planning on rockboxing this.

I play FLAC on my clip all the time and they sound amazing so I'm picking this up to use strictly for FLAC recordings and let my clip function as my gym player.

I don't even bother with my iPod's anymore.

The clip has been on of the best players for just music I've owned. The fact that you can play lossless music files on it is wonderful.

Would this device fit/play/charge with the audio dock or are those for iPods only? It looks like they have a similar slot on the bottom, but I could be wrong.

Also, I read a review that said the sound goes bad/choppy after the screen goes dark from no buttons being touched. Has anyone else had this problem, because that's how it will be primarily played, stuck into an audio dock and not messed with for several hours.

The Fuze and iPod have the same dock connector but the pins are completely different so no, you wouldn't be able to use this in an iPod dock.

I tried this and definitely would not recommend it. It worked in that music came through my speakers but it was accompanied by lots of static and sounded as though it was heavily compressed. Reading the Amazon reviews some people were happy with it though, so with a certain car stereos maybe you get better results (or maybe they are less picky than I am). For me it just sits in my glovebox and serves as an occasional charger now.

I have several sansa Fuzes, including the newer Slotradio enabled models, and the older models (like today's woot deal). The SD card slot acts as a secondary memory locale, but when sorting through music lists, it includes external (sd) and internal (fuze) content on the same list. I don't know about adding items from both sources to one playlist, but I guess that it would work. Sansa UI and UE is spectacular.

neovenator wrote:Regarding the SDHC card slot, does the device consider the added memory a part of the total memory, or does it keep it separate?

I ask because my Creative Zen has an SD slot, but if you put anything on an SD card and want to play it, you have to navigate to a separate menu to access it. You can't add items on the SD card to a playlist that includes items on the device's internal memory, and it doesn't remember where you stopped playing a file on the SD card when you turn it off. The card, essentially, becomes a separate media player inside the Zen, and since it only accepts cards up to 2gb, it's pretty pointless.

To put it simply, the Zen is crap and I'd like to avoid a repeat if possible.

Agreed. The Fuze works with audible. You will of course have to install the audible software onto your Fuze, but afterwards, you should be smooooooth and shiny.

I personally love the 8gb Fuze that I own, and the 4gb version that I wooted earlier this year for my brother is still working perfectly. As far as FM transmitters go, I just picked up this transmitter from walmart for my brother, after reading some good reviews.. $12, and it runs on AAA batteries (his cigarette adapter died) http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scosche-FM-Transmitter/14666784.. Here's hoping it'll work well. ^_^

Do not purchase refurbished electronics that have a rechargeable battery. I had bad luck with a refurbished iRiver some years ago, as well as a refurbished laptop. Both have less than a quarter of their claimed battery life, because the original batteries were never replaced. An mp3 player with 20 GB of storage is useless if it only has enough battery life on each charge for 90 minutes of playtime.

Well, I bought the 8GB refurb clip earlier this year and could never download music. Neither could a very tech savvy younger friend, so the problem was not just me. They are refurb for a reason, but a reason a buyer will never know until purchase. Great price, but some risk.

This little thing rocks.... I have the 8Gig + another 8Gig in the slot. Getting one for mom, so she don't swipe mine.. woot..woot...

As for "locking up"... unhook from power source and hold the power button pushed up for about 30 secs. It will reset. I have had it plugged into my Car and running over FM for the past 6 months.... I can take it out and run it on battery for about 4 hrs+. So, I do not buy the whole "battery goes bad" bit. Then again.... $40 for an 8Gig Mp3 player without any restrictions people.... if it croaks, get a new one.

In my experience, they yield much less of the noise associated with FM transmitters (which is worse in a city). The only downside is there's not a lot of bass.

Of course, if you get a new car without a tape player...

Own a Clip (my second). Love the device, hate hate hate hate hate the playlist and music management.

Your choice is between Microsoft jail (MTP) mode which works great but won't play back on other devices (car USB for instance) or MSC mode, letting you spend your free time managing your playlists with a bunch of betaware (yes, I am referring to Songbird) and a hoopty collection of works-on-MY-machine scripts and hobby projects gleaned from hours of scouring unanswered forum posts.

If Sansa would just put some money behind a media management tool (buy Songbird - it's almost there; I just want it to actually put the playlist on my device after it puts all the songs there) they'd be more popular.

As it is, consider spending a little more for an ipod nano.

cindyangotti wrote:Does this have bookmarking?

The OEM firmware will simply remember where you were in a folder and ask if you'd like to resume, but if you Rockbox it you'll be in bookmark heaven. You get a bookmark index that shows the folder, file and place, with unlimited numbers of bookmarks and various settings as to how they are created. You can set it so there's only one bookmark per playlist, like for reading a novel, or multiple per file or list, if you are marking notable passages.

I use it to switch from a randomly sorted podcast playlist to books. And in the afternoon I'll switch to FM to listen to All Things Considered on NPR. It IS somewhat geekware, but my 8 year old can navigate the folders and bookmarks of her Rockboxed player.

Another otterific feature of the sansa with Rockbox is being able to move and copy files from player to player with the SD cards. And one more thing, being able to speed up playback in 1% increments as far as you like. Some bookreaders are REALLY slow talking!

I have a similar device from Griffin - an FM transmitter and MP3 charger in general (the car charger part has a flip-down back revealing a USB port, so any USB device can be charged - I use it for my iPhone too!) rather than specific Sansa one, and it works great. I've had great success with items from Griffin.

See item here: http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Universal-transmitter-PowerJolt-Charging/dp/B001LYOGRM/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1285025777&sr=1-9

Edited to add: In regards to sound quality, if I keep the radio up higher and the Sansa at a medium sound level, the quality isn't bad. If it becomes an issue due to US vs. International stations, the first comment in the above Amazon link is how to make that option available. Although I haven't had to do that, it goes down pretty low in the stations at it's normal setting.
