This has to be one of those items that they choose because they are getting to the end of what they want to sell. Trust me regardless of the profit one could make re-selling these, this item was meant to slow the woot-off.

I think the woot-offs were better before Amazon took over. :-(

This will make your Japanese import more JDM Just place it in the engine bay and smell the lemon/wood scent. Or an expensive air freshener! Thank you for buying

Hmmm... knives. Expensive knives to go with the expensive cutting board of rare wood. Maybe expensive knives AND toothpicks.

I'm afraid that if I spent this much on a cutting board I'd never let food touch it. Like the really good raincoat that you never wear in the rain because it would get wet.

Peperpuppy wrote:I can buy strat bodies already routed for this price, as good or better than Leo pre-fabbed. You seriously expect me to believe that a mass-produced cutting board from today exceeds the "craftsmanship" of blocks of wood from the 40s and 50s costing thousands?

And how do we know this isn't a fake? LOL!

Two non sequiturs and a red herring. I will re-iterate:

bobbyb0322 wrote:Bought a wooden cutting board at Walmart the other day for about $20. I thought that was high.

This is America - where we complain about the high prices of disposable Chinese junk we buy at bulk retail outlets, and guffaw at slightly more expensive quality items. Sporadic opinions from people who act as though they are experts (that's you) make the ignorant quasi-thrifty masses feel justified. Nice work. Score one for Walmart, bucko.

If I'm going to pay that much for wood, there better be a man attached to it.

goldiemcg wrote:Are the Classics the ones with the D shaped handles? I'd love some Shuns but I have to get a different line unless I special order the left handed set...which adds $ and time to the order.

Basically all of their knives have the D shaped handle. I have heard from lefty handed people that the knife is just as good for them even though it wasn't the left handed version. I would recommend that you go to your local cooking store, William Sonoma, Le Gourmet, etc., and see how the right handed version feels and then buy a three piece set on woot. The set I bought had a chefs, yanagiba, and deba, and it is all I need and it is perfect!

Happy knife hunting!

I hear the Japanese insist on only slicing their dolphin sushi on these types of cutting boards.

Jessara wrote:You'd lose. Some Italian even makes bathtubs out of the wood. You can buy the wood's essential oil for aromatherapy. You can buy hinoki shower floor grates for $500.- hey, there's an idea. Buy four of these for your shower and save half the price!

Are you sure that the Japanese are not reselling our wood as Hinoki? They call it Hinoki even though it isn't.
