After scoring my 4th in a year, I'll share my tips on what has worked for me...
Ever since I joined, these things have always fallen between 4pm and 6pm on the final day of a wootoff. How do you know it's the last day of a wootoff? You don't. But I just make sure I have my woot page in a tab on wootoff days, and start REALLY paying attention during the late afternoon. For people like the guy earlier in the thread saying they've been up for 30 hours refreshing waiting on the Baggie of Cthulhu... that's just rediculous if you've been on Woot for any bit of time. Even for this one, I told the coworker beside me, just as soon as the microwave steamers sold out, "if one's coming today, it'll be next!" Of course, Woot likes throwing curveballs now and again (like the happy hour Baggie of Cthulhu), so one day I fully expect to see the Baggie of Cthulhu in the middle of the night, just to make everyone mad (except for the people who get one). BUT, I'm rolling off topic a bit...
I've never used any other programs... just simple refreshing. Once the Baggie of Cthulhu comes up, I make sure to hit the I want one button as soon as it's visible. Sometimes have to hit it a couple of times, until you get the green loading bar at the bottom of the IE window. I DON'T touch it again, as long as I have the green bar.
If I get through to the next window, quickly feed in my CC 3 digit code, and click the This info is correct button (again, until I get the green loading bar).
Then on the final page, quickly scroll down and hit the large gold button.
If any error or server error happens during any of these steps, I try again. Usually I get a 2nd tab going while waiting on one of the other screens to load, which sometimes gives me a slight jump if the first window ever fails... But, I've never been successful on winning if I've had to use the second window (usually sold out by that point).
Hope this helps!
