But there's a positive spin on this too: for all those states the TAXSUCKS coupon code is working, and you can use it an unlimited number of times! It gives you $5 off (or essentially free shipping) on orders over $40. So depending on what your state tax rate is, you actually SAVE on orders from $40 to say $70 (here, in NY), and on orders over $70 you still get a bit of a break....

Yeah, I haven't pounced on the abandonware for a few years now... Alley Cat was a good old pc game. I also killed it at california games on the Atari. Geez between my friend and me, we had likely 40 games for the Atari. Yes we also had to use the popscicle trick to get most of the games to work too.

The power pad was always my favorite. I still remember going over to unsuspecting kids houses and making bets that I could beat them in the long jump. Jump off pad, jump back on after a while. Good stuff. Oh, to be a young, jerk again.

I had the order screen up right away. I kept clicking this info correct and it would reload the page. I just figured out that I never put in my security code. I was in a state of frenzy and my lack of experiance was a factor.

It was in my hands but this rookie folded under pressure.

BTW: I had an Atari 800 and ended up with three of my programs published in, Antic & Analog Magazine. See if anyone remembers those.

And now the rest of the story:

So after the last few Bag O’carp were so bland and really crappy, I reviewed what I had received in the ten previous carps to decide if it was worth it for me to continue trying to buy these. My conclusion was that my perceived value of the Bag O’carp had declined greatly with the most recent ones being the most useless ones that I had received.
The best Bag O’carp that I had received contained three refurbished Sansa MP3 players in it. The rest were full of nearly expired calendars, children’s toys, and other junk that I ended up giving away to friends, coworkers, or the Salvation Army. Of the three Sansa players, I gave two away to relatives and kept a Sansa View for myself. Well that Sansa View gave out this week and won’t display anything on the screen anymore except a pure white screen. So right now I am in need of a new MP3 player.

For pure fun, the second best thing was the High School Musical clocks that I was able to convert into Woot clocks. (BTW, ThreePieceWoot if you are reading this and would like one of the converted clocks please let me know and I will send it to you as a gift)

So it was my intention to skip this month’s Woot-off Bag O’carp and use the $8 to buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks instead. However when the item popped up on the screen, my Woot version of Pavlov’s Dogs training kicked in and I hit the buy button.

What I didn’t notice was that somehow my saved credit card information was no longer there. I just entered my 3 digit security code and hit enter. Of course and error came back, saying the credit card payment information was missing. Along about this time I thought, OK, I am going to miss this one and that will be OK.

I decided to enter the credit card information anyway and hit the button again. After waiting the screen changed and gave the buttafucco error code that some many have talked about. I went ahead and hit the confirm button and waited for what seemed an eternity. The screen then changed over to the processing screen and after another short eternity wait, it changed to say the order was in.

I received an email confirmation shortly after and was amazed that I still managed to snag another Bag O’carp, even with the credit card information and error code problems. And to answer all those who complain that only people using gallivanting alpacas or third party programs get a Bag O’carp, well you are wrong.

Anyway I really hope that this Bag O’carp yields me something that is unique and different from what everyone else posts that they receive. I know the changes of it happening is slimmer than the chances of snagging a bag to begin with are, but I can just hope.

ThreePieceWoot, I know a lot of people make requests of you, but if you are reading this I have a simple and easy request. Please pick carps that aren’t the same as the majority of people get. For once I would like to get something unique. I remember that one time you sent out some movie props with certificates indicating what movie they were used in. Something like that would be great. Or even a nice newly refurbished MP3 player to replace my now dead one would be terrific.

I got my first Bilberry Odor Candle in July and it had The Letter, which was followed by a brand new 32" TV. It will be hard for anything EVER to match that shock. The Box itself had some very nice items, and I would have been thrilled with it. However, the pure fun of the gamble is the best part.

I had the 400 and then switched up to the Atari 1200xl. I love that old bastige.

I remember laboriously typing out games in BASIC only to realize that I made a typo somewhere in the mass of text.

Still have it, the tape drive, as well as a few games in a box in the closet. I wonder what the market is for that?

The styling was ahead of its time. I may need to mod that and put a 360 in it or something

That's not Adventure. That's some unrelated game that came years later that didn't even try to be similar.

ADVENTURE is a text-based game based on the Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, originally written by Will Crowther.

For details, see this Wikipedia link.

ADVENTURE runs on a bunch of computers quite older than your Atari systems - for example, the DEC PDP-8 system with 32K of memory. See the distribution here for a computer system that's been around since the 60's. :-)

The first hard drive I've ever encountered (but not owned - waaaaaay out of my budget back then) was 5M (that is MEGABYTES FOLKS - yes, just enough to store a single JPEG picture from a decent digital camera, forget RAW), it was the size of a shoebox, though I don't remember weight - don't think I ever lifted it, when it spun up it made a sound of small jet on takeoff and the lights flickered in a room!

It had enough space to store DOS (yes!! no more "insert disk containing file COMMAND.COM into drive 'A' and press any key" messages), Norton Commander, a couple of games (aforementioned alley cat, digger, and a few more), and a whole bunch of other things! Back then you could actually put A LOT on a 5M disk, as the size of average program was 65K...

Before powering it down you HAD to run park.com to park the head in a safe spot, so that it does not touch the surface and ruin the whole thing.... And I was SOOO jealous of the guy who owned it!!!!

Ah, the memories.......

You've got one more old-school gamer geek here. I grew up playing the Atari 2600, Colecovision, and the wonderful (but slow) Commodore 64.

One thing that I noticed that was kind of neat was that Xbox 360 is seeing a bit of nostalgia with their "Gameroom" arcade series of downloadable games, which offers a ton of old-timey games. They've even added a few items for the Xbox Avatars, including the yellow "duck" dragon from Adventure (your icon) that can run around a player's Avatar, Pitfall Harry, and even a little Yar's Revenge fly ring.

Yeah, it may be some silly marketing, but I was delighted to see a tip of the hat to Adventure and Yar's Revenge.

It is Atari Adventure
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventure_(Atari_2600)

But I know what game you mean as well. I loved the text based Adventure as well. My dad used to sneak me into his work when he was a programmer and Adventure is the 2nd game I ever played on a computer. The first was the game you probably know as lunar lander. Except when I played it it was more of a simulator than a game. He worked for Martin Marietta out side of Denver Co.

I tried to find the text based adventure that would play on my PC but no luck.
