Knock offs start around $3.50 but may damage the camera. Genuine Sanyo battery from the Sanyo Store online seems to be $50.00. I did see an Energizer for $16.00.

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

Would an Energizer be safe for the camera? $16.00 seems reasonable enough...certainly worth the extra $12.50 to protect your $120 purchase.

No it can not. I have one I got about two weeks ago. I wanted a small video camera with optical zoom and a still camera as second function. The videos are impressive as the stereo sound. You can zoom while filming but there is a slight motor noise and the sound level does drop. It's fast on start up and oh it talks too... enjoy!

How would this compare to the Toshiba Camileo H30? I've been back and forth between small "HD" cams like this and the more traditional styles. Optical zoom is important to me (though 3X isn't much) as is being able to record on removable memory so most Flips are out, but this one seems to have most of the features I want.

Found a recent personal review on Amazon where it compares unfavorably to the kodak zi6. Although the guy points out it might be worth $120 instead of the $170 he paid....

Okay... so it records more pixels in SD? :-/

I expect that the sensor is 4:3 - to do widescreen, it probably "letterboxes" the sensor. This is somewhat meaningless since we're talking about the number of pixels used to capture the image, not store or display it. Except in some very specific cases, more pixels for capture is better.

How much record time do you get, and at what size SD card? I.e., how many HD minutes can I record with a 4Gb card? An 8Gb card?

It works great but doesn't capture as much area so
You have to be standing just so & have it zoomed just right to get a decent video. I'm happy With the size software & that it can send directly to Facebook Flickr etc...but this looks like more
Bang for the Buck. I have a full size camcorder but its over 5 yrs requires FireWire etc to get it digital. Uses mini tapes anyone have one of these???? Ah my bed is calling. It was fun & I got a lot of my Christmas list checked off. A few REALLY great deals and only a few wootgrets...lol. Night all 8-)

Hey Russ,

You can't generalize this as the minutes depend on various factors such as the camera software, the recording setup, bitrates, etc. Here are some recording times that you can (roughly) expect:

MPEG2 576i (9MBit/s):
4GB about 60mins

AVCHD 1080i (17MBit/s):
4GB 30mins

AVCHD 1080i (24MBit/s):
4GB 20mins

8GB would double the times.
If you want to record in highest quality for more than 5hrs, you should get a 64gig memory card.

This is what I've been looking for, a camera that takes decent video that doesn't need a separate battery charger. I hate removing the battery just to charge it, because I usually forget and have a dead camera when I need it.

The lens on this camera is too small and does not provive enought light to use the zoom lens while taking video. Most of the cost in any camera is in the lens, and is why this camera is only $110.

Oh, hey Woot! This is my first purchase after lurking for awhile.

I was thinking about getting these extras for a trip overseas:

Wasabi Power® Battery for Sanyo DB-L80
$13.50 Amazon

Transcend 16 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card TS16GSDHC6E
$30 Amazon

Can I do any better in terms of quality for the battery and card, without getting all spendy? Curious to see what accessories and extras wooters are buying with this fairly new product.

I've had a Sanyo Xacti 720p camcorder for over a year now, and it is beyond otterific. I put a 32GB SDHC card in it and have taken great videos of a bunch of trips, etc. and they are all really fantastic keepers. The features on mine are rich, it takes a good video, and the sound is even rather good. The best part about them is the still photos... I have taken some really good pictures with it.

I would get this if I didn't already have my Xacti and was happy with it.

So what is the low light recording like for this model. I got the old Polaroid fake "HD" video camera off here a couple years ago and it is absolutely awful. is this decent? are there any lines or is the footage grainy? does the amazon reviewer make valid points or is he crazy?

Sorry, but I am not putting my faith in one reviewer. There's no way to tell if their experience with it was factual, user error, etc. I can't believe that this camera is that bad compared to it's older "brother," the 720p version Sanyo. Mine blows my mother's Flip and sister's Kodak out of the water.
