I too would be curious how much a back up battery (that won't mess up the camera) would cost.
Knock offs start around $3.50 but may damage the camera. Genuine Sanyo battery from the Sanyo Store online seems to be $50.00. I did see an Energizer for $16.00.

No you're not. Unless you have 3 accounts.

Would an Energizer be safe for the camera? $16.00 seems reasonable enough...certainly worth the extra $12.50 to protect your $120 purchase.

Russ__F wrote:How much record time do you get, and at what size SD card? I.e., how many HD minutes can I record with a 4Gb card? An 8Gb card?
Hey Russ,
You can't generalize this as the minutes depend on various factors such as the camera software, the recording setup, bitrates, etc. Here are some recording times that you can (roughly) expect:
MPEG2 576i (9MBit/s):
4GB about 60mins
AVCHD 1080i (17MBit/s):
4GB 30mins
AVCHD 1080i (24MBit/s):
4GB 20mins
8GB would double the times.
If you want to record in highest quality for more than 5hrs, you should get a 64gig memory card.

I've had a Sanyo Xacti 720p camcorder for over a year now, and it is beyond otterific. I put a 32GB SDHC card in it and have taken great videos of a bunch of trips, etc. and they are all really fantastic keepers. The features on mine are rich, it takes a good video, and the sound is even rather good. The best part about them is the still photos... I have taken some really good pictures with it.
I would get this if I didn't already have my Xacti and was happy with it.

Sorry, but I am not putting my faith in one reviewer. There's no way to tell if their experience with it was factual, user error, etc. I can't believe that this camera is that bad compared to it's older "brother," the 720p version Sanyo. Mine blows my mother's Flip and sister's Kodak out of the water.

FYI: The Sanyo portion of the video starts at about 1:24
