the good news about these mattresses is that bed bugs do not like them nearly as much as conventional mattresses. If you don't already have a problem you will be much less likely to have one with these mattresses

I typically buy the 8" Wally world one when we go visit friends to throw on top of the air mattress (and then return it when we leave)
IMO these are good for matress toppers but not as a mattress replacement.

as for sexy time... we didn't have a problem. And it does quiet up a noisy air mattress quite well. LoL

Just a note, whether NOTEworthy is up to you guys. Fleas: having a new puppy and a ten year old, meant the puppy had mud to it eyeballs and there was Listerine toothpaste in the bathroom sink. Looking at the situation, thought the puppy would survive the toothpaste. The poor little thing had fleas, that died immediately, instant death? really? I needed more proof...It happened in 1996, it does work. Listerine was made to kill germs, it also kills fleas, why not bedbugs?

If you're looking at the Cloud 9 series be aware that the number 5.3 isn't 5.3lb. It's just a model number. It doesn't refer to density. I consider it deceptive marketing.

This is the 4" topper I have. It's 4lb density memory foam through and through.

Also a lot of toppers have a memory foam layer on a layer of cheap foam rubber that are described as 100% memory foam.

The things I hate about memory foam, having tried it out:

If the memory foam is just below the surface of the mattress, I can feel the foam constantly adjusting under me with each breath. It feels like the mattress is very slightly moving all the time, but far differently than a conventional bed would, almost like "IT'S ALIVE!".

I have fibromyalgia and bought a Simmons Beautyrest with individually pocketed springs and deep pillowtop. Most comfy bed I've ever slept on. I had the choice of latex foam or memory foam below the pillow top. I ordered latex but I'm pretty sure they got it wrong. I have hot flashes anyway but this bed was far warmer than any I've ever slept on.

If you easily get too warm in bed, don't buy a memory foam mattress. Even memory foam pillows make my head sweat. TMI...

My only complaint about it is that it is so comfy, the moment I lay down, all I want to do is sleep, even if I was wide awake =(

You should backup nightly. It's based on older hardware so proper maintenance can take around 8 hours EACH DAY. Seriously save yourself the trouble and just never sleep again.

From the Overstock reviews, it seems that everybody gets a horrible sag in the middle after 6-12 months. Has ANYBODY here owned this mattress for more than 6-12 months, and comment on your experience with sagging? The overstock reviews are virtually 100% negative - all said it felt great at first, and then went bad. I'm hoping those are rare cases. I've seen a hundred posts on here saying they wooted this mattress last time and "its great," but there's no mention of how long they've had it. Feeling great after 5-6 months means nothing according to the reviews, as in another 5-6 months you'll be aching and in pain from dips and sags. So please, any veteran user comments??

I bought this the last time it was on Woot, probably 3 months ago, and it's already caved in. No issues with heat or with smell at all, but it's no good if you have back issues, which I do. The only way I would recommend this mattress is if you love super soft beds.

I think it's true that these mattresses are not going to hold up like the $2,000.00 memory foam mattresses will. I would suggest getting it for a spare bedroom, but not to use for longer than a few years.

Exactly what I'm getting mine for. I have a latex bed for my master bedroom (absolutely love it too.) This one is going in the guest room. I figure it should hold up decently for just that.

I don't think so. Memory foam has been used for years in health care to prevent pressure sores (bed sores) and promote healing by improving circulation. It's improved the quality of life for millions of people. It's a mainstream bedding material with benefits based on accepted science. Until something better comes along there will always be a significant group of consumers that benefit from memory foam. Waterbeds were a fad because they were based on junk science and culture. They were extremely inconvenient too fill/empty, could develop leaks, and required a heater. Both types of bedding are plagued by questionable marketing techniques and deceptive advertising.

Just adding my two cents. Bought this last time on woot. It takes a little while to air out, but once it's free of odor, it's amazing the type of sleep you get for the price. I had previously owned a $200 mattress from sleep country which kept both me and my girlfriend waking up with sores all over our back. I'm happy to report that all those aches and pains are a thing of the past, and all without breaking the bank on a tempurpedic(I would if I could lol)! I will make a few key points that might justify things already said but:

-This bed will retain heat pretty well. During the winter, that's a heating bill plus. In the summer, not so much. Easily remedied with a topper or some blanket buffer between you and the mattress.
-Haven't experienced any of the sinking/holes that don't bounce back at a weight of 180lbs.
-I've only owned this for a little under a year, but I've not seen any noticeable signs of wear.

All in all, a great deal, especially with shipping at $5.

I bought this bed last summer and used it for about 3 seasons. I kept wondering why my back was aching. After seeing a chiropractor for 3 months, he was wondering why my back adjustments werent holding. We figured out it was the bed after I stopped sleeping on it for a couple of days. I went back to my 10 year old spring bed and back aches are gone! Now my memory foam bed is in the guest bedroom for some poor houseguest. Heehee.

Thanks a lot for the link. Looks like a good deal since I'm looking for a replacement top layer in my cheap Queen size component mattress I bought 6 months ago. I'm 240lb and tall, went for a cheap ebay 10" memory foam mattress, and now I am in a taco every night. The top layer is actually permanently creased and no matter how I reconfigure the top layer, it still tacos. So, I'm thinking if I can save some cash, buy a thick and high density top layer, I can keep the mattress alive that I have without spending a fortune for high density tempurpedic.

If the mattress isn't firm a topper isn't going to fix it. You might want to look into getting a bed board too. They sell fancy folding ones but it's a lot cheaper to buy plywood or particle board from a hardware store.

shlamele24 wrote:I've noticed a plethora of posts regarding the chemical smell, and I feel that the need to drop some Bill Nye for those interested.

The "chemical smell" associated with many new synthetic products is usually associated with unstable polymers (or plastics) used during the production of that product. Sometimes these polymers can be adhesives used to bind the plastics together, or the smell can result because of the crosslinkers used to increase overall strength. We see this on a regular basis with the "new car smell" we all love when we drive that brand new car off the lot. After a short amount of time, all of the residual unstable polymers will react, and the smell will be gone. However, because some of these polymer products that cause the smell "may be" hazardous to your health, I would definitly follow the advice given and let the mattress ventilate for several days before sleeping on it.

I am getting my PhD in a chemistry related field, so I have some experience in polymer science; however, I welcome any comments and/or peer revision to this post!

I have a platform bed with this mattress, it's great! I also bought the queen size for my guest room that had a conventional slat frame. We cut plywood to fit the bed and it is very comfortable. The best option is to place this mattress on top of your old box springs for maximum support.

I bought the topper you mentioned since the one I have is basically done with. It's unusable. Out of all the options I saw, that seriously looked like the best option as far as cost/value. If it lasts a year I will be extremely happy. After about a year all I can conclude is that taller and heavier people need to spend a shiatload of money for anything to last. Those that are smaller and weigh less will likely have more options. Thanks again for your input!
