You're not alone. I'm still waiting. Fed Ex has the information but has not received it yet. The anticipated ship date for it on the Fed Ex site shows 10-4-10. We're a few days past that now1

Same here. Ordered Sept 30th, appears to not have been shipped till Oct 4th. I guess the shippes at W00t had the day off that Friday? Thanks for the deal, but for a small item like this that does not cost much to ship anyway I'm thinking a week tops for it to be on my doorstep.

This is a let down for sure.

They told you its ships vis smart post. Snail and all. It is all ground shipping and it has to jump from smart post facility to smart post facility until it gets to your area. Then the post office gets it and delivers it. It went out their doors on the 7th and arrived in Dallas early this morning and most likely left a few hours ago. This is how it works.

Whoever manages to get theirs first and still reads this, post what version of the hardware you got. Vital for those who want to do DD-WRT

Got my two today, 10 minutes later, both are running dd wrt, however, one of them only has half the signal strength of the other. I changed the Tx power for the low signal one and is still under performing IMO.

edit: For jordguitar, both are wrt54gs2

Received it yesterday, 10/09 (FedEx said "estimated delivery 10/13"...)
It is a WRT54GS2V1.
Flashed today with dd-wrt:
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) micro - build 14896.
Working fine.

Yes I get how smartpost works. I've used woot a few times. For $5 you can't really complain I guess. I think buying it 2 days before a weekend killed the time it took for it to get prepped to ship. That added at least 3 days to the shipping time. I guess it happens.

Got today. I'm happy! I will be working on flashing it pretty soon.

The funny thing is that I don't have any wireless equipments at home no laptop/iphone even my desktop is wired. But it was a good deal especially with $5 woot coupon that I got a while ago. Cannot beat this!

I checked my mail before leaving for work and it still hasn't arrived. The tracking says that my post office got it yesterday before noon. I cannot believe that it has taken this long for a package to go from Dallas to Corpus Christi. Hell, a regular letter only takes about 3 days.

For someone that is new to flashing it to DD-WRT...what is the best way to go about this process so I don't brick my new router? I know I have to make sure the model number is compatible any other big DON'Ts? Thanks for any help.

Ordered two (one on my wife's account, one on my account), the first one arrived, the label says it's "WRT54GS2-V1" -- does this mean it's able to flash to better firmware without problems?

eegorr

Got mine today, and it is a V1!

I'll probably stick with the stock firmware until the warranty runs out, but it's nice to know it is upgradeable. Looks like pretty much everyone else is getting V1 routers as well.

Thanks, woot!

Yes, that is what it means.

Actually, you can tell before you open the box - if the serial number starts with "CUQ" it is a V1.

Got mine and it WILL NOT complete setup. My computer doesn't connect to it at all. I do get a link-local network, but nothing beyond that.

I have tried every configuration of setting it up/reseting/different computer and nothing works.

Looks like I'll be talking with support over this one.

Just received my router which arrived in a crushed box that looked like it had been handled by a angry gorilla. Hopefully my newly refurbished piece of sensitive electronics will work when I plug it in ...

NightGhost wrote:Linksys WRT54G series

"The WRT54GS2 is the WRT54G2 hardware with the VxWorks 5.5 Firmware including SpeedBooster."

The limitation applies to both models, since the hardware is the same - the problem is that the memory in the chip is too small to accommodate DD-WRT. Note that this limitation is mentioned on the Wikipedia page under the "S" model. You can also find references all over the web.

BTW, the hardware version is printed on the label on the bottom of the router. Any chance someone at Woot can check one and let the folks know?

Welcome me to the club.

I seem to have TWO deaders -- and I'm glad I didn't buy three of them, because the way my "luck" is going I expect I'd have three of them.

They seem to work as routers -- I'm in fact connected to Woot right now THROUGH one of them. Both of them check out OK as wired routers. Both of them are putting out a decent RF carrier that my Zune can pick up. (Zune is NOT set up for wireless synch, so all I can do with it is use it to determine that when the router is turned on, and I tell the Zune to scan for networks, it finds "linksys Unsecured network" -- so, I know that there's RF, whoopie.

However I can NOT CONNECT TO THE CONFIG server in the router!

When I look at the network map in Windows (Vista 32 Home Premium SP2) it shows the router -- with the name and model number reported -- and, if I mouse-over the icon, it reports the router name, IP address, and MAC address -- BUT, when I click on the icon in the network map, it tries to launch http://192.168.1.1/ which just hangs, and hangs, and hangs forever.

BTW, I got NOWHERE using the config software that came with it. It went through all the steps, i.e., detecting my network, verifying that my network was OK, etc., etc., etc., BUT, when it got to the "plug in the router and fire it up" part, it just hangs forever.

Conclusion: the web server part of the router is FLAT DEAD in *both* of my routers.

When my wife gets back I will check if she can connect via her netbook -- I am going to guess at this point that she probably will be able to -- but it is NOT acceptable to me to be running a flat-out/wide-open-COMPLETELY UNSECURED wireless network that can NOT be configured!

I am so weary of this, having spent the day wrestling with these beasts, and trying to fight my #$%@#$% arthritis, I just want to return them, I don't want to exchange them, I don't want to spend a few hours with some guy in New Delhi telling me to reinstall Windows...

Dear Woot... please help us out here. RMA to Texas, please!

EDITED TO ADD: If anyone at Woot reads this (please... please... please...) you will notice the records only showing ONE router purchased on this account. That's because this is my wife's account. The other one was purchased on my account (kodachrome)... so, double the fun, we paid twice the shipping, argh. You'll also notice that between the two of us there are close to 300 woots... and wishing dearly at the moment that the total was exactly 2 fewer. What tragic routers, AIEEEE...)

mine works perfectly fine. The difference that I'm seeing with what I've done and what most others here have posted, I flashed ddwrt to it RIGHT away... didn't even try to use it outta the box standard.

Try it and you'll see... it works perfectly!

PROGRESS!

I think.

On a wild hunch, I started looking at default IP addresses... found that my LAN was on 192.168.0.* -- but, the router was on 192.168.1.*

After MUCH "fun" spelunking the bowels (choice term) of Vista's TCP/IP innards, I managed to change THIS machine to the 192.168.1.* world just long enough to log in to the router's web server (SUCCESS!) and change IT'S planet to 192.168.0.*

I *then* had the "fun" of a conflict with the router's address (192.168.0.1) conflicting with my existing gateway.

So, back into the router's config server (after physically yanking the cable taking THIS machine off the net, to avoid the conflict), and change the least significant part of the router's IP address.

I am now on the net (yay), with the router accessible (yay) on its unique IP (yay)... BUT, the network map that Vista draws continues showing the WRONG address for the router (192.168.0.1), even though everything (so far) SEEMS to work (other than clicking on the router's icon in the network map, which causes it to attempt to log in on 192.168.0.1 -- and, other than checking out the actual WIFI wireless functionality, which I figure will probably be ok -- will know for sure when my wife returns).

So, I guess belay that plea for RMA, and bid me good will in my efforts to clean up the network map before I plotz.

TIA and so on and so forth and scoobie...

Could you perchance post the link to the ddwrt download (for the version you used with this router)?

I'm about all fun'd out for one lifetime... if there's any way I could miss out on the thrill of hunting for the right download and then hoping I *got* the right download... well, I'd surely like to miss out on that thrill. A lot.

(It suddenly dawned on me that I have TWO of these things, and the thought of going through this ell-hay TWICE is making me ill.)

PPS to others unable to access the config server (and from my read of this thread I am far from alone in this joy), check for IP range conflicts between your LAN and the default setting for the router.

I checked the manual and found NO mention of this ABSOLUTE showstopper! I would at this point almost wager that the person who had linksys support "verify" the deadness of the router was WRONG -- they most likely (IMO based on my "fun" today) are working off a script that covers the same material in the manual, which does NOT address (pun intended) this apparently VERY common conflict.

This means that if this IS the cause of YOUR grief, after you RMA your router back to them, then wait for a replacement to arrive, you'll be exactly where you are NOW!

Here it is the 15th and no router. Talked to the post office today and they have no clue either. According to the Smartpost it was delivered on the 9th, but no one was home and the postman left no note about it. Then apparently it was delivered on the 12th at 11:27, then sent back to the shipper at 4:12 the same day.
WOW!
