No one has mentioned audiobooks. Most libraries have them for free with varying rules. Get one of these for your kids and load them with books--keeps them entertained and educates at the same time. I have 5 kids--they all love audiobooks and these Sansas play them with great clarity and are so easy to load. If they get lost or broken, you're not out a bundle. Great product.

Screen is beautiful, click-wheel interface is easy to use. Windows Media Player recognized it, and I was able to sync over all my Zune Pass songs.
The video converter is better than I thought it would be. I put all my RvB episodes (which were in .mp4's). You gotta have the Fuze hooked up when converting videos so it can load them on immediately.
Mine came preloaded with the previous owner's music (some sort of smooth jazz? idk). It looks and performs perfectly. I am looking forward to getting a microSD card (listening, woot gods?) so I can fill it up even more.
I didn't try the included earbuds. I got a nice pair of Sennheisers (sp?) from Woot's daddy company (Amazon).

If you are on the fence, just buy it!

That's not music that was left on, all fuzes come preloaded with some music(atleast all the ones i've gotten).

What is the biggest SD card it will take? 4GB, 8GB?

You can switch them between two "USB modes" (MSC and MTP): One lets you access the memory as if it were a drive on your computer, the other mode allows your favorite "music library program" provide the interface and sync duties. (Although I can't personally verify iTunes compatibility specifically).

Sansa website indicates compatible with 32 GB cards. I can confirm using 16 GB cards without difficulty.

What a rip off, they had an 8GB Fuze last week for $35, much better buy. I bought one and it's great. A fraction of the cost of an iPod with the exact same userbility. First Sandisk I bought was in 2005 (512mb), great little unit. Trusted and reliable.

I LOVE mine. I have a 16GB card in there and it works flawlessly. I gave up my 30GB Zune for it. Bought 3 last time, it's easy enough for my pre-teen hobbits to use. LOVE IT!

Did I mention I love it? I really do.

I got the 8gb from woot last time and it is a great player. I haven't rockbox it (wanna stay on the official firmware for a few weeks) but at default, it still sound very good.

Easy to navigate, nice screen and thin.

As mentioned, if 4gb is not enough, put in a 16gb micro SD ($28 on amazon) and that should be enough storage for most people.

Thinking about grabbing 1 or 2 of these... but I really want to wait for clip+...

I got one of these and while I'll say it's great for the price, IMO the sound quality of the Zen Vision M is much higher. But for battery length and convenience in the gym, this one wins.

Finally did it. I've checked Woot nightly for the past... oh... two years? This is the first time I've actually caved and bought something.

I bought one of these in January from Woot. Even after all these months, the little guy works as well as the day I got it.

I would suggest picking up a decent micro SD card for the player. Since I listen to a lot of audio books, I needed the extra space. Other than that, I cannot complain about my Fuse.

I've been using my 8GB sansa fuze in my car and for my workout for the past several months. I rockboxed it as soon as I got it and it has been running well. It's simple, has a fair amount of the space for the price, expandable microSDHC slot, smooth wheel click rotation, 8-14 hour battery life, and it's durable. My fuze has been dropped a few times while running, and it still works great!

Also, get some decent ear buds/IEMs because the stock headphones are OK at best.

I should have bought another 8GB just for my car when it was $35. Oh well, hopefully it will come around again.

I have this exact model, and I love it. The build quality is excellent. Nothing about it feels cheap. The interface (both software and hardware) is user friendly and easy to learn. Finally, Sandisk's support for this line of products is exceptional. I highly recommend grabbing one (or five -- it'd make a really nice gift).

I bought this same 4GB back in January and I LOVE it. Not only is it great for the usual music and audio books but I also record my class lectures on it.

My classmates also love that I have it because as soon as the recording is finished I upload the lecture in a nice MP3 file that they can download.

The mic on it is pretty good too, I've sometimes been about 20 feet away from my professors and the clarity is still good when I listen later.

I got this about a year ago from woot and its a great player. My only slight grip is that its deceivingly heavy and the headphone jack doesnt have a lot of "hold" on the plug. As a result Ive dropped my player countless times from pulling it out from my pocket by the headphone cable. I believe the player is heavy enough that simply dangling it by the headphone cord is enough to disconnect the plug.

I gotta know if Woot keeps buying Sansas or these are all from a Sandisk plane crash that was raided over a year ago. I guess it could be an electronics refurbisher has a conveyor belt straight to the Woot warehouse.

If you are a bit tecky (or you have WindowsXP+SP3), check video4fuze which is a tool to make easier putting videos on the fuze without Sansa Media Converter

i love this thing. i bought at least 3 or 4 the past 2 years and they are still all in working order.

build quality is excellent, supports a lot of formats. firmware can be flashed with rockbox for more options.

if you're looking for an MP3 player, this is definitely it.

I bought one in a past woot and its not going well. They come with a R etched into the back of them to signify they're refurbished. The headphone jack is starting to lose connection so only one earphone works most of the time (Yes its the unit and not the earphones) and every time I click down on the scroll wheel it resets the mp3 player. I have tried everything short of taking it apart and nothing has fixed this issue.

after having used both players for ~6 hours a day, 6 days a week, for several months each at a very physical job, i feel that the sansa fuze is of a noticeably lower build quality than the ipod nano 4g. eventually the connection at the headphone jack became weak because the plastic housing started to become loose, whereas the aluminum construction of the nano still feels sturdy. while the interface of the fuze is simple and quite streamlined, it is not without its faults and overall feels less polished than the ipod interface.

however, the fuze does sound noticeably better through the headphone jack, it is obviously considerably cheaper, and the expandable memory is a great feature. the cheapest nano you can get from apple is a refurb 8gb 4th or 5th gen, each being $100. for that price you can grab this fuze, a 16GB micro SD card, and a $50 pair of headphones, giving you overall a much, much better listening experience than the ipod.

Rockbox only works on a certain version, you have to disassemble the mp3 player to find out what version you have. (Last time I looked it up)

dude you can get a 16GB one for like $30 on amazon dont be such a cheap ass. whatever woot charges you'll be paying $5 to ship it anyway whereas its free shipping on amazon. i doubt you'd get it for much cheaper on woot, if they ever even offer it.

Okay guys, I've been looking into Sansa players for a while now, and I'd like your opinion: how's the sound quality? I own a few Zunes and some mp3 players that far outdate the iPod, and I've been generally pleased with their sound. How does this Sansa Fuze stack up against, say, the Zune?

the sansa fuze offers excellent sound quality out of the headphone jack. i have compared it directly to the ipod nano 4g and through each headphone jack the fuze is definitely superior. i also have an ipod 5g and 6g, but i haven't used my fuze in a long time so i can't give a direct comparison. however, many people on head-fi.org are quite happy with the sansa fuze through the headphone jack, so i wouldn't sweat it if i were you.

I've now owned two Sansa products over the space of the last year-ish period of time. One was a c240 that I got off of Buy.com. The other was a 4g Clip+ that I bought at the beginning of June.

My experience has been that the durability and build quality are very, very poor. The Clip+ developed a defect due to a known manufacturing problem that makes it impossible to increase the volume; the c240 rapidly lost the connection between the headphone jack and the player. Unfortunately, both were refurbished and literally days out of the provider's warranty before they died; I bought the Clip+ on June 5th and it broke on September 10th, and Woot only has a 90 day warranty.

Look, it's only $27. If you have that kind of disposable income where you can afford to replace an mp3 player costing that much every three or four months, rock out - the sound quality, as an example, is second to none. However, given Sansa's refusal to support refurbished units (though they'll provide good support for new ones) and Woot's very limited warranty, I'd suggest from personal experience that you pass on refurbished Sansa products.

I got the Fuze 8GB and 4GB from woot.
Love them. I also have the 2nd gen ipod touch.

10 Reasons I prefer the Fuze:

1. It can play from folders - this is how I organize my songs
2. No need to use itune or other synch software
3. Expandable
4. Can record with built in mic
5. FM Radio
6. Much smaller/cheaper than the touch
7. Can Rockbox it
8. Plays flac
9. Just keep one in the car, if it was stolen or if I lost it, it won't be as painful.
10. It's doesn't look like an iphone

The ipod touch is sitting on my desk 99% of time not being used.

Be careful with this one.

This might of been said already, but the Fuze has a tendancy to just not work without a complicated Voodoo ritual on some computers. They insist its a windows xp driver issue and nothing they can do.

If for some reason your computer won't read this player, even after you've had it working, you'll need to completely remove the drivers for it, unplug it, shut down, plug it in, and start up.

And even then it doesn't work all the time.

I recommend against SanDisk. Used to have good USB drives, but the quality of mp3 players has stagnated about 2 years ago.
