Thanks so much for the post! The little guy is doing well these days, and has been spending nearly all of his time snuggled up with the Woot! monkey mama, as you can see in that last photo.

He was the only egg out of 16 to hatch. About half of the eggs came from the "matriarch" of our flock -- she hasn't been feeling well lately, so her eggs weren't really strong enough to pull through. The others were from one of her daughters, Ashton Kutcher (while a duckling, she would constantly peep if she was away from her "entourage" ... and we thought it was a boy), who had only just started laying eggs. We know now not to be so hasty in collecting eggs for hatching -- let the little ones lay for awhile, then use them. The shells were too thick and the membranes inside were too tough to break through. We managed to help this one by breaking bits of the shell and tearing some of the membranes. I'm sure glad we decided to do this and not just "let nature sort it out" as some people told us. (Nature? Really, now. What's natural about an incubator?)

We're going to keep the stream up as long as we can, so feel free to check in occasionally.

And seriously, we need a name for him! (And the monkey!) Any suggestions are otterific.

If he was my duck, I would name him Sir Quacksalot. Or Bill. But I am partial to Sir Quacksalot, and everytime he would waddle in the room I would throw my hands up and yell "hooooooooooo" and make gang signs and stuff. Hilarity would ensue.

I would name the Woot! Monkey "Oprah", just so when someone says "hey, where is Sir Quacksalot?" you could answer, "oh, he is chilling out with Oprah" and you both would just giggle.

I think the monkey should be abominable (a-bomb for short) and the duck should be George.

It's just too cute seeing the duck sitting on the monkey, tucking it's head under one of the arms.

Well since he is my nephew I think you should name him angus..i love that name..yea Angus would be the right name for him..Love my new nephew!!!

I think we're going to go with Sedrick for the name of the duck, and definitely Oprah for the name of the monkey.

Every time we put him back in the cage he gives a little peep and runs over to the monkey, as if to say, "What up, Oprah?"

We just compared pics from when he was hatched to how is he now, and already he's grown. Jeez.

The cam will be up this week, down next week (we're going to Disney!) and then will be up again on the 18th.
