I'm coming from a lenovo S10-2... This T91MT is really cool and worth the bucks even though I haven't tuned it, but is anyone else not to thrilled with the screen contrast and brightness?

Had mine for a few days now, and am overall pleased, though I do wish it had more hard drive space. But that is why Bill Gates invented jump drives and external hard drives. (Kidding, btw.)

I ended up ordering the 2G memory. Good grief, remember when we were all thrilled to have 512MG? But it runs a little slowly at times, so instead of being frustrated with my otherwise cool new toy, I went ahead and got it.

I am very happy with mine I got a really good one All my bios and fw are current. I added the extra ram and now just starting to remove bloatware.

Thank you Woot!

Confirmed that the netbook is working so I just ordered 2 GB of RAM from newegg. I probably should get it tomorrow. Hopefully the Netflix will start working without the slight stutter after.

I'm also trying to think if any of the bloatware is worth keeping like the fotofun and calculator.

If anyone has one that is working just fine (no screen, spacebar, other random problems), but just not quite what they hoped, let me know. Send me a message by clicking the little mail icon next to my post. I'm willing to buy it at the same price and pay for shipping.

NO choppy video here..install firefox. by the way I use mine to woot when i take a dump.... its great.

I got mine today. Set it up. The touch calibration has 16 points. The 4 points at the lowest row won't repsond. As it turns out, a band taller than the task bar at the bottom does not recognize touch. That is to say I can't use touch to launch start button or control anything in the task bar. I think my touch screen is defective. Questions 1. Any advise how to obtain RMA or service from Woot?
2. Does anyone has similar problems?
Thanks.

Similar problems here. My problems became worse over a few hours. Woot can't replace it only refund it. I called Asus and let them talk me through calibration and driver updates. In the end I got an RMA number. I had to pay $12 to ship it to them, but I won't mind as long as it comes back fixed. I am still waiting for it to be returned.

Dumb question probably. Bought the T91MT a couple of weeks ago from WOOT on 7 Oct. The user's manual states to disable the Boot Booster before changing any components. Since I have NEVER powered it up, can I upgrade the RAM without going thru that step??.

yep.

1st disable the battery (switch next to ram)
2nd install ram and turn switch back on.
3rd when booting up, you can verify 2gb by entering bios (press F2 to get there) then press F10 to save and exit.

It takes quite awhile for the OS to load on first boot,(over 1/2 hour for mine to even get any screen up)Then there's a bunch of updates for Windows to install (couple hours total) just be patient. Have fun.

Thanks ponie. I found it this morning one of my dogs had it. My pen is a loose fit I guess it came out when I took the T91 out of the box and it fell on the floor so Casper could play with it. Fortunately, he didn't do much damage to it.

status update:

Software:
* removed windows 7 completly
*installed ubuntu 10.10 remix. unfortunatly because of the gma500 graphics driver support in linux, the unity interface does not work,
*currently there are some issues with vlc and video playback.
*using easystroke for global table gestures, works great
* loads gimp inkscape qtcreator and other such softwares without problems.

Note: Much much faster with linux over windows

Hardware:
* like a few of you i am experiencing the dead spot on the touch screen, ( mine is 1/8 inch from the bottom, and about an inch high al the way across) if it grows then I'll try to replace it.. or rma?...

i still think its not properly grounded as every time i plug in my metal usb drive the system flashes and the bios forget my settings.. i probably should address that

I've been looking everywhere for a better way to input text in tablet mode. I liked the Swype style used on Droid touch phones (where you drag your finger or pen from key to key, no tapping) and I found a version similar to it that works for windows!

I thought you other Wooters who bought this might be interested... and best of all - its free!!

It's called Inscribe - gettin linkey with it! http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/fp/inscribe.php

What? Are you referring to the "Dump" part? This information was needed to further explain the portability and use of the device. In other words, your welcome!

Step 1: There is a little black switch next to the RAM. This will disable your battery so no stray power will be present during the upgrade. Turn it off before removing the old and inserting your new memory module. Make sure you turn it back on before powering your pc again.

When rebooting your T91MT press F2 before the OS (Windows 7) loads. This will bring up your bios. If your RAM shows up, just press F10 to save and exit.

Okay, overall review:

I installed the 2 GB RAM - still can't play mindjolt worth a darn (and yes, it registered that I installed it).

However, for what I SHOULD be doing with it (basic word processing and reading ebooks), I adore it! Glad I bought it.

I bought one and it is super slow. Youtube and other simple videos are awfully slow. The processor could use a major upgrade.

You might want to consider upgrading the RAM. I just got this off Amazon and waiting to try it out:
http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-256Mx64PC2-5300-CT25664AC667-200-Pin-SODIMM/dp/B000F7QRTG/ref=lh_ni_t_

So far, it's been great. You have to work around the cluckiness but I travel with it to work and it's been great. When it's in tablet mode it can be slow since it uses half the processing power as in net book mode but you can get it to work with patience I think.

After only 2 weeks of very little use the unit won't turn on anymore. Display started flashing different colors and then that was that...dead.

How do I return and get a refund for this?

Got to power settings and change the "close lid" setting to "do nothing". Worked on mine.
