These Fuzes are known for their superb audio quality, and recent releases of Rockbox support them really well. I know I'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said by anyone else, but I just wanted to chime in with a good 'ol, "ME TOOO!2312!!!2111oneeleven"

Sansa really are the unsung heroes of digital audio players to me. And Rockbox just makes them that much more useful.

Does the E200 charger fit on the fuze?

I'm in for one. I listen to music when I sleep (usually radio) and this little guy will be perfect for that (and for toting around my mp3 music, of course). I've been itching to get a mp3 player, but they are expensive. Also, they are hard to find with FM tuners and decent GB storage and still be in my price range. The fact this thing has mircoSD capabilities makes me overjoyed.

I bought one of these a bit ago on woot. The unit works alright but the screen came scratched to beat all hell.

As a Wooter, if you don't buy at least 1 Sansa...you can't get into Heaven. Oh and you'll never be allowed to buy a Baskey of Carrots!

I bought this thing at the beginning of the month, and I stab it! The interface is really nice, the sound quality is superb, and for a price like this, who can say no? I might buy another and give it to a friend as a present.

I'm one of the legion that just bought the 8GB version, so far I'm pretty satisfied with it. Mine is a v2, and I'm very impressed with Rockbox on it despite it being listed as "unstable". It beats the pants off my old iPod Nano 2gb. After I put all the music I wanted from my collection on it, I had about 600MB to spare. Nice.

Is this product the best option for playing music in the car?

Will the player stay charged through the usb port?

Thanks for any advice!

The Fuze had a firmware update in 2008 that enabled flac and ogg. Or there's always Rockbox.

Yes it will stay charged through the usb port. Of course usb kicks it into Sansa mode if you use Rockbox. I just use the 3.5 jack.

Can't speak to it being the best option but for what it's worth my Sansa e260 works just great while I'm drifting my old POS Camaro up and down the mountain I live on. Nothing like going sideways through a blind hairpin with some death metal blasting....lol.

Try using your AE card and it doubles the warranty period for free.

NightGhost wrote:Only you can answer that. If it gives out in 6 months, will smoke come out of your ears? Will the warranty give you peace of mind? If you answered "yes' to either of those questions, perhaps the warranty is for you.

As far as the math, look at it this way. In the long run, someone's going to make money from the transactions - either SquareTrade or it's customers. Guess which one?

Rockbox IS a problem for some. There are two versions of the Fuze, the V1 will Rockbox but the V2 will NOT.

My mistake, apparently since I last checked they figured out how to do the V2's. That is good news as I have a V2 and want to Rockbox it!

It's like I'm a Sansa hoarder or something...I have 'em everywhere...clips in the purse, gym bag and the desk(s)...4GB and 8GB Fuzes dragging behind my herd of children...

So what can I do? How about grabbing a couple more for....the car? Yeah...that sounds like a good excuse! :D

I can't speak for this specific Woot, but the 4gb Fuze I bought off the site a few months back was a version 2, which doesn't have a stable rockbox release.

Got one of these the at the last Woot offering. Mine came without any markings on the back signifying it was a Refurb. Looks new. Acts new. Was updated to the latest firmware. Noticed an overall speed to the software on this one as compared to older versions of firmware. As ever, a spectacular buy.

Rockbox works for the most part. Rockdoom and Rockboy are a bit iffy, though. Doom doesn't save on my Fuze (v2), though I've never had it just crash on me. Attempting to save causes the device to crash. But hey, you can still play Doom on a MP3 player, which is pretty bloody.

kogaku wrote:What he said.

I am so tempted to buy another one of these, but my wife would kill me.

It's great that there's another opportunity for people to get these -- this is IMO the best player Sansa has ever built (and arguably without equal from any vendor), and, very sadly, they recently discontinued production.

They replaced it with what they call the "Fuze+" which is not being welcomed with open arms by a lot of people, if the posts on the Sansa-stuff fora are any indication. The "replacement" is nothing like THIS device -- it's bigger, it lacks the docking port, and the very ergonomic click-wheel that this player uses. (The "Fuze+" uses a touch panel -- oh so trendy, oh so difficult to use (can't use it in your pocket, can't even keep it from messing up while in your pocket -- brushing against your pocket makes it think you're telling it to do stuff, including unlocking it, if you tried locking the settings before putting it into your pocket.)

The new player is in the opinion of many a revamped incarnation of the Sansa "View" -- it has similar form factor, screen size, video codec support, and do forth (but, lacks the Fuze-type click-wheel that the View has).

For quite some time people have been pleading for a firmware update to address issues with the View (another discontinued device), and it doesn't take a particularly cynical person to wonder if they addressed this by rolling out a replacement, sans the "View" moniker (and thus, sans its baggage), instead, giving it the very popular "Fuze" branding.

In short, if you want a very nice COMPACT device that's amazingly flexible, powerful, and versatile (unlike the "Fuze+" THIS player can run Rockbox), with incredible audio quality, then grab this thing while you can.

If you're a gambling type, you might want to wait and see if they list the 8GB version in a few days. If you're the prudent type, you'll say, "Well, if they DO list the 8GB version in a few days, I'll get THAT one too, but I am NOT gonna pass up THIS opportunity, which may never come around again!"

(And, my money IS where my mouth is -- last time they sold these, they listed the 8GB version -- I bought one -- and a few days later, they listed the 4GB version, and I bought one of those too. I now have about a half-dozen of these, and I intend to take very good care of them, since there does not appear to be any way to replace them later on once the supply has dried up completely.)

If you do get one (or two, or three), I suggest getting a "Best Skins Ever" to apply to the screen. (Do a web search for the company, offhand I think it's their name, minus spaces, plus ".com") They sell a pre-cut set of Fuze skins, but lately I've been buying the "large" sheet (about a third of a letter-size sheet) and trimming rectangles to apply over the screen-only. The rest of the player doesn't need the protection, whereas the screen itself definitely does, and, it's a lot less expensive, especially if you're protecting a lot of players.

That material is unbelievably strong -- it's NOT like any kind of clear plastic adhesive you've seen -- it's NOTHING like clear packing tape (DON'T do that to your players! It's weak, it yellows, the adhesive goes cruddy on you... ugh!) -- this material was developed for application to leading edge of helicopter rotor blades. It's as close to bulletproof as it gets (it IS pretty much knife-proof -- you can cut it with a SHARP scissors, but don't bother trying to slice it with a knife). It adheres well, and it protects the screen, without obscuring the display. That's what you need.

If you're using the standard firmware, download "video4fuze" which beats the hell out of the "official" video conversion program.

If you're using Rockbox, get "WinFF" which has presets for the Sansa e200 screen (same dimensions as the Fuze).

I've tweaked the settings to give more accurate aspect ratio. After looking at various settings people were using, I concluded that these are (for me, at least) optimum:

For full-screen, I use 220x166

And for wide-screen, I use 224x126

(You can either edit the actual settings using WinFF, or, just paste them in at the bottom of the screen before converting -- anything you put there will override the stored settings.)

If you've been thinking of getting one of these, now's your chance!

OH no! Discontinued!? But I just discovered this player and its awesomeness I'll have to get another. I bought one of those little sony walkman players with active noise canceling and it recently crapped out (bad connection to the headphone jack) and I can't find it anywhere. I don't want this to happen to the sansa fuze, too!

I'm happy with the fuze I Wooted a few months ago and would buy more except for the play list problem.
My Itunes play lists are large and have evolved over the years. It would be too laborious to dig through all my music files where each song is listed by source/artist/album/song title just to recreate a list that already exists on itunes.
Is there any possible way to drag and drop my existing Itunes playlists directly into the Fuze?

This sounds like an bloody deal, and I think I would stab it, but I am sceptical about buying another woot product. The last item I bought a couple weeks ago was shipped to my billing address in California instead of my shipping address in Afghanistan. Maybe this is an zombie kind of question, but what do you think the chances of them shipping a second item to the wrong address are?

Sorry, I had to thrown in the words awes0me, stab, and idi0t. Are there more words being changed?

EDIT: I'm the zombie! I had the wrong zipcode on my order. It reassures me it was my mistake, so I went ahead and bought this. Hope to see it in a month or so!
