Next time keep your lil' rubbers and your camera in separate pockets. Problem solved.

The fact that these are on ebay NEW starting at $89 and days into zero bids is a bad sign...

I wonder which woot monkey it will be this time...

I get all Woot-off items in a separate email folder and viewing back... The first half was better then the second and it seems like the discounts have been...ehhhh

I spent over $500 on each of last couple of woot-off and zero this time...

Touchscreen cameras are a BAD idea! I dropped a Nikon one and cracked the screen and it's no longer touchscreen... I can't use any of the features! Can't even turn the flash off.

Got two of them off woot for same price a few weeks ago. The original firmware had some touchscreen lagging problems, which gave it some negative reviews (cnet), but the new firmware in July fixed it. The new firmware was already installed on the cameras I received.

For a budget point and shoot, its a decent camera with features like 14MP, big touchscreen LCD, and 720P video. Takes excellent day time photos, but struggles with low lighting scenes like most point and shoot cameras. Overall, a very good camera for the price.

Yes, they are very accomplished thieves, and they love fish above all else. They'll nest in your chimney if you give them half a chance. They'll pull anything apart that they can get their hands on, including patio door weatherstripping and roofs. They raid our grape arbor every fall - we don't do wine or eat the grapes, they're not quite sweet enough for us but the coons love them. They have moonlit parties out there, you can hear them churring and slurping late into the night.

Oh, if I did not have about 30 cameras (seriously, I do) I would buy this as a back up camera, for sure. It's super compact which is a nice feature to have.

Put it in a shirt pocket and forget about it until your main camera goes on the fritz.

And Panasonic makes zombtastic products, so you can't go wrong with anything from them.

I great prefer using film but it's more practical to have digital for just everyday use. If it comes to an event or something, film all the way.

I have a Canon AE1 I use every once in a while for the nostalgia of it, but in all honesty I think it won't be long before film is about as common as flash powder in photography.

I know. I'm working during those hours, so I haven't even come close to being at the computer when they've offered it before.

Oh, to answer the film camera question, I still like film better, but only if I'm planning on 20"x30" or bigger posters. Otherwise, the digital is a lot cheaper for me for the number of photos taken (I have a superzoom Panasonic myself).

You're probably right. I always seem to have more luck with film though- I'll mess something up then just keep going with it and it turns out better than I started. On a computer I'd just hit undo.

Also, my 6 year old digital camera is already obsolete. They don't even make the battery for my spotmatic anymore (fortunately its only for a light meter and lasts about 20 years) but its still as good as when it was new.

edit: and glad to see three of ya still play with film

I got one in the last Woot. Good camera, but the hyped extra zoom feature isn't especially noticeable. Don't buy it for that feature, buy it because it's a decent P&S.

So, this is my first woot-off .. and I was wondering how it works? When all of this other stuff is gone they will offer us what.. bag of candy, what does that refer to?

MichaelSF

quality posts: 92 Private Messages MichaelSF

If you are on the fence with this, remember that it records in 720p HD mode. So for $125 you are getting an OK camera, but also an HD camcorder.

Why buy a separate less-versatile Flip MINO HD camcorder when you can buy this Panasonic and have both a camera and an HD camcorder.

Just something to think about.

Sidenote: What I don't like about these budget and mid-range point and shoots is the limitations on settings. I like on my Canon S90 and Lumix LX3 that I can fool with the settings.

Then again, the S90 used on eBay will set you back $300, and a used LX3 a little more than that ($350). And the S90 being a 2009 camera does not record in 720p, but the LX3 does. The new S95 does record in 720p mode, but like the LX 5, it's $450.

Bucket of Candy randomly happens during a w00t-off, it lasts all over 5 seconds before it sells out, it is a random assortment of items guaranteed to be worth your money. My father got a Roomba in one a couple years ago.

There's too much to explain about how Woot-Offs work, but an excellent reference is Wikipedia.

Good to know, so it could be any time. Hrmm. And more random things after that. How do they decide when to end the woot off and go back to the 1-item-a-day?

I have a Lumix ZS7. Lumixes in general are high-quality point and shoots.

Even so, for this price range you might as well use your smartphone camera; the quality gain won't be all that much.

They will keep offering stuff until they get near the end, then they'll offer one of their "screaming monkeys" (seriously, look it up in the community section in previous woots). They will end it on a 24 hour time (24 hours rarely, 48 hours usually, 72 hours sometimes), ending at midnight central time. The bag, offered in most woots, and mostly 2:30-5:30 p.m. central in the last year or so, offers some multiple things, a lot of them seen on previous woots. Most people find at least 1 to a few things they like in the bag, and it's dirt cheap (the last one $3 with the usual $5 shipping). You can look up some sample openings of Bags on YouTube. The others above offered good insights as well.

It's random...but it's not, it's kind of hard to explain. It usually happens in a certain time period, I don't know much about when it is likely to happen, as for going back to the deal of the day that happens 24-72 hours usually after the woot off started.
