In any case, I was suggesting something akin to, but different from a captcha. On one day, there could be a box with the instructions, type the word "MONKEY" before you continue, or whatever. The next Woot-off, the box could say "add 13 and 11, and type the result in the box."

They did that back in 2007. You had to type in the word "PLEASE" in order for your order to go thru. You can read about it here:http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=1151717

If you click on the picture of the bag you will get the visual clue.

You could easily program a bott to follow that.

The best captcha type program I've seen was a simple flash app that had a few pictures in it. It said 'Drag the fork onto the square'. Easy peasy, no typing and tough to script.

This would have to be the worst suggestion i have ever heard for getting a Bucket of Candy. you should do the exact opposite of that and use your credit card to buy. it is much easier/quicker to enter you cc security code then going through paypal.

Not if you set up your paypal account through woot ahead of time.

I had that done for a while and all you had to do was re-enter your WOOT password on the detail page and it goes straight through, I never had to access the Paypal site.

I have managed to get a Bucket of Carp a couple of times using paypal.

So, how is your password any better/different than entering your CCV? Both require a "do something and click something" step. I use my credit card every time and don't even do the copy/paste for the CCV (and don't use any sort of helper to get me there). I've got 10 bags to my name plus many countless times that I've gotten to the confirmation but they'd already sold out. There are tricks that help, but I'm not sharing. :D

I too use Paypal! Worked great this time (my first woot off!). I was monitoring from mywoot.net and walked in the room after hearing the rooster crow. Hit the I WANT ONE button on their site and got right in.

I had just left the office and was picking up my child at preschool when the highly-anticipated Bushel of Chipotles came up the other day. On my iPhone I clicked "I want one" and waited & waited... Then Safari timed out. I refreshed a couple times, more timeouts. Finally (many minutes later), I got to the checkout page and was informed that the Buffet of Chimichangas was sold out.

My question: Would I be the proud recipient-in-waiting of a Basket of Chihuauas had I been on my PC (Internet Explorer) instead of my iPhone (Safari)? Is there a remedy to this (for the iPhone) or a recommended process (I'm a initiate) for success in future Barrel of Crud woots?

I've actually had very good success in the past ordering from my iPhone. It's tough to tell if you would have done better from your PC.

Yeah... A pallet of anything besides shoes, flowers or jewelery arriving in my driveway would probably be a big fat buttafuoco for me. At the very least it would require some compelling explanation to my wife, who has not yet been initiated into the seductive world of woot.

Oh, agreed, but the poster I was replying to was implying that further steps were needed for use of paypal.

However, for myself, I would think it would be easier to remember the site password rather your credit card security code, but to each their own... I've done it both ways.

Oh yea, my Shirt I ordered on the Thursday Reckoning sale arrived today. Shirt.woot must not have been very busy that day.

I used PayPal... but I had to copy my password. Last time around I just couldn't get it typed out (too excited...) and it sold out! It's nuts how excited I get about these things... this is my second Bucket of Candy - my first one seemed to be pretty standard - maybe the woot gods will smile upon me this time around. But, whatever crap I get, I will be happy, knowing that my $8 really paid for the excitement, anticipation, and adrenaline rush. It's like paying $8 for a three-week long roller coaster ride.

The only problem is that Woot replaced P.O.R.N. with candy. It's portable P.O.R.N. storage. And it refers to today's woot.

Up until the last couple of Random events, the bags were usually very small belt-type camera bags that would hold a really, really compact camera. They must have finally cleaned out of their Targus or Sunpak inventory.

Hello fellow Wooters!

Dropping by a bit late here to say "Hi". I did score this one! My BоC #13, just in time for Halloween! Granted, its chances to make it home by said holiday is just about nil - it's still in the spirit of the day!

So welcome back to all seasoned crappers, and welcome aboard to the newcomers! Let's hope together, that Woot Gods will bless our little baggies with some amazing items (but expect usual junk, so that we're not upset if that's what comes!).

I'm no economist, but why would woot want to add a captcha or some goblin scrambling script to its site? They sell whatever they want to sell, thus from a sales standpoint, its successful. Its just like anything else in high demand (think sports tickets), the company/tea, selling doesnt care if the sales are fair. They care the sales happen. You notice this more now where teams are signing deals with stubhub to sponsor them. Now they realize they might be able to get a little bit more money by partnering.

I think this is my third this year, I always love getting them, but I miss more than I get. Last time I got the unexplained error after putting in my password. This time I was lucky. Thems the breaks.

Looks like they're charging tax on the shipping cost, too. 7.5% of $8.00 is 60 cents.

EDIT: Mine was too (I'm in Texas) - and it seems like they got it right:

My first was a backpack; actually a pretty nice back-to-school bookbag. The others were misc. iPod/Sansa/camera cases.

Last time they didn't send me a bag. When I emailed them, I received a small brown paper bag with a question mark painted on it. Just in time, too, because I was hyperventilating with anticipation when it arrived.
